Changes in the Pipe? Necros?

As I recall, in the last meeting in the forum chat it was said that Necromancers were the next big class to get a rework. And that Bards would come after that.

But that this changes would be competing for code time in parallel with more important stuff.

Now that we have the new Astral Cabal and the RP points system, and new undead quest, how goes the Necros revamp project?

Is it still coming?

Is it going to take more time than expected?

Did it got pushed further back in the line, to speed more important stuff?

Are Bards still going to get a revamp at a later time?

Is there any new exiting project just around the corner? What about in preparation?

 

 

Also, if you want an idea. Making the new necros a new class might save some trouble.

It would allow to keep old ones in, and have a live play test like the first Blademaster. Who was a freaking cool elf that hunted with my group at the centaurs.

Just call it Deathmage or something, and once all is done, swap names. That way you get to keep the old class for kick and giggles.

Unpopular opinion time:

I don't think necros need the revamp all that badly. They have some bugs still I'd wager, sure, but bugs shouldn't be what we buff or nerf classes around. And it's not like necros are impossible to do well with - look at Mindflayer's success. I think what they suffer from is a very high skill cap coupled with a very steep recovery aspect. The tradeoff for that, though, is how powerful they can be with the top tier zombies all buffed up and ready to eat faces. 

If they got the revamp, I would hope that it becomes a tiered class. Three tiers might be pushing it, since shaman takes the mal aspect and there are only so many ways you can do zombies without being repetitive. But I can easily see two tiers - one focusing on zombies and the other focusing on death/pain magic. 

Personally, I think bards need the love quite a bit more. I like the idea of live testing on some fronts, but I can already see the backlash from the other players if what is tested is far too powerful. Of course, if its too weak in testing, whoever is testing it isn't likely to keep testing and/or the class gets some rather immediate dismissal. 

Speaking of testing, and possible alternatives... if the class has been worked on and testing is needed soonish... could always feature it on Halloween on the special port. It even fits the theme :D
