Temple of Darkness
  Constructed solely out of black marble the temple exudes a feeling of
darkness, but also a deep endless calm.  Black and red blood candles have
been placed on the temple's altar, the sacrificial bowl holds a dark black
liquid.  Two paintings adorn the side of the entrance, the one to the left
showing endless scenes of battle, sacrifice, slaughter and suffering, some
at the hands of those already dead and called back again to a life
unnatural.  The painting on the right is more simple but also more
captivating in its starkness: A single huge circle is painted upon a canvass
of the deepest black.  Closer inspections reveals that the circle is made up
out of countless of single strands, all intertwining and loping around each
other.

A Small Clearing
  You find yourself in a small clearing in the woods.  The trees are even
more sparse here and you can clearly make out the foothills of the Dragon's
Teeth and, even beyond that, the snow capped peaks of the mountains.  
 
North of you large oaks arch over to meet each other forming the entrance to
a wide grove.

Thickening Woods
  The trees thicken slightly around you but your path is still clearly
visible having been worn down by many feet.  The land under foot becomes a
little more rugged as you sense the terrain becoming slightly more uneven.

The Abandoned Checkpoint
  A small path enters a light woods to the east.  Various pieces of rusted

encamped here, just outside of Val Miran.  The wind whips up the grass and
as the trees thicken eastwards they sway as one.

mountains, still far in the distance, seem to tower, with white peaks, far

That no boat in the river was a killer. No idea how you lived through that.

 

A cleric vs a well followed Necromancer should favor a defensive weapon. Either a mace, or a cursed staff.

Specially if he can damage the pets with fire shield.

 

Typically one would summon the pets and either kill them, or Isolate them.

Nowadays summoning zombies appears to be harder. Perhaps something hampers it, like Zombies starting to save on their master mental saves for summon. Or them being special L60 monsters.

Or the Necromancer just standing in a no summon room.

If you can summon, take care to minimize the chances of him being summoned back, by only using spells to engage. Typically you wish to be unlaged to rapidly follow the zombie when he flees. Also try to be in an hard to access place (locked doors, generic maze room name, distant) so that it's not easy to walk back.

 

Isolate can be cast on a specific pet, or on the necromancer to remove a random pet. As most Clerical spells it will target the mental saves of the necromancer.

One can try to get past the mental barriers by flee casting isolate over and over. There's always a chance the spell will succeed, and with a staff and cure criticals given time one will disappear.

If you try this tactic, watch out for the necromancer counter tactic of death grasping you into a Powerword kill. The counter counter tactic would be to have spell turning, but this will burden the cleric even more, allowing the Necromancer to murder you with zombie two round openers.

 

Also, never ever fight blind vs meele capable opponents.  You will only lose. And keep an eye on those Maledictive saves, sometimes, certain pieces of equipment can be changed to cover something vs a special class.

 

In my view, Necromancers aren't easy to kill, although it appears you have the advantage, you do not. But they are easy to dispose off, specially if one kills the pets first. As they will demoralize and stop bothering you. Once you Isolate a pet that takes 1-2 hours to get in 5 min, they will bother you less. Just like the warrior who dual wield holy weapons and murders a pet at a time before working on the non-Necromancer.
