RP point rewards

So. The one immediate thing that stuck out to me after logging in to FL after some time in absence was the RP points, and they seem like a great addition. I've yet to found a comprehensive list/helpfile of all rewards you can use your points on (there's mentions of all sorts of stuffs in all sorts of threads), and I'd appreciate if anyone had a complete list they felt like sharing.

I have fun with the color changing pets. People rarely walk by without saying something, and you can really embelish a conversation with one. I have a character that bought one, and it easily paid for itself with RP points earned.

I want to experement with color changing things. My goal is to get a character with a piece of equipment with a different color in it. You know, really blind a player when they look at me. Ohh... how about RP to get color in my description?

How about RP to get a skill called pose which changes your long description to show continued action until it is used again, you leave the room or do something else that changes it like resting, meditating or sleeping.

Something like

pose is chopping wood in the axe yard.

would show

Dewaholic is choping wood in the axe yard.

How about custom tells?

Instead of "Jane tells you, 'Rarr, matey. I am pirate. Hoist the flag and surrender your treasure!'" you could apply to have something like "In a distinctively Miruvhorian accent, Jane tells you, 'Surrender your treasure!'".

Through the ether, Bob's cold voice reaches you, 'O woe is me.'

Jessica's voice suddenly hisses in your ears, 'Sssssslytherin. I am Ssssssslytherin.'

The list goes on. Make up your own and pay the RPs. Good/bad?

Years ago I suggested something quite similar to this, it didn't seem to go over very well... though, I submitted it among a plethora of suggestions. -which I've come to realize is a bad idea, 'cause if a single suggestion is disliked all of the unrelated suggestions will be disregarded- since we had a pose command then, I made mine as follows...

walkin walkout rdesc "walk in" "walk out" "room description"
syntax:
walkout <string>
walkout clear
walkin <string>
walkin clear
rdesc <string>
rdesc clear

The walkin and walkout commands simply provide the character with a means to change what is displayed when they enter or leave a room. All walkins and walkouts require the character's name. Walkins should be complete sentences that end with punctuation while walkouts should be worded in such a way that the direction you're heading accurately completes the sentence.

A good walkin/walkout will not declare actions, impose emotions nor effect a person/object in a room.

For example:
Unacceptable Walkin: Lynny walks in and you are overcome with fear.
Acceptable Walkin: Taking note of her surroundings, Lynny moves into clear view.
Unacceptable Walkout: Punching you in the face, Lynny runs
Acceptable Walkout: Having to be elsewhere, Lynny promptly leaves

Type walkin or walkout on a blank line to see the associated string thus far.

For example:
walkin
Your walk in is: Taking note of her surroundings, Lynny moves into clear view.
walkout
Your walk out is: Having to be elsewhere, Lynny promptly leaves

Room description (rdesc) falls under the same roleplay guidelines as walkin/walkout, but is a description you may enter to shape how other players see you as they enter the room you're occupying. All room descriptions start with your name, you only need to provide what you're doing from there.

rdesc is quietly reading a book.
shows up as:
-your name- is quietly reading a book.

These commands are subject to Imm discretion. If you're told to change your rdesc/walkin/walkout, it is most likely disruptive to the game in some manner or doesn't fit our roleplay guidelines. Those caught abusing this privilege will find it removed.

(oddly enough, a journal concept was also submitted with this suggestion... among others, which in hindsight were pretty bad. lol)

what if we made it where the walkin/walkout has to start with the players name AND if they're flying, mounted or would be crawling... it just wouldn't be displayed since those effects would take precedence?

seems like a lot of extra effort just to do something you could do with an alias. set your directions to fire 3 commands (custom leaving, the leaving itself, and the custom entering), that turns itself off when you use sneak or quiet movement.

Is it extra effort?  Yes.  Should it be considered as a RP reward?  Yes.  So, what's the issue?  PK Balance?  I hardly think so, especially not with the in game ability to track it with the affects list.  The problem with the client alias?  It starts stacking and that is a rather large negative especially for those who find PK difficult to start with.  I'm wondering if having it coded in would negate that and destroy some of, if not all, of that lag.

If anything, it would hinder the use of trigger PK and even that is questionable.  It would certainly require extra effort on the part of the trigger PK'er.  Why is there always this ever hanging assumption that because there might even be the slightest hint of abuse or PK imbalance that something gets tossed overboard?  The large quantity of PK edges and buffs bought out of the Bazaar are getting purchased at a higher rate than the non-PK categorical items.  THOSE are going to create contextually specific cases of abuse.

Mind you, no one has said "PK Abuse", but reading between the lines...I'm so frickin' mad I could chew my hat up and spit it out right now.  *(&&*&*****!!!!$%$%$#####!!!

Imm Awards are the biggest chunks that you will get at a time. Sending notes can get you a few depending on the note if you address it to immortal as well as its intended recipient.Much like a note you can do a journal entry (journal to immortal). You can post RP logs on the prayer forum to get them. Or an imm can directly watch you do something and say hey thats worth a few. Also your character history is important and gets you quite a few depending on how well written it is. That also give immortals some idea of where you want to head with your RP and they can easily tailor something cool to you by reading it. Lets see, write a tome for the library and send it to the Heralds to be published (is that still going?).

For non imm awarded things... you get 1 RP when you get your desc approved automatically. Yes you have to get it approved by an Imm but you have to do it reguardless of the RP your going to get. When you hit level fifty, you also get 1 RP when you help someone gain a level.

Did I forget anything?

In short and with the exception of gaining 1 RP per level per party member your 50 helps rank, they're strictly Imm given, yes.

Dew basically covered all the ways to gain them.  I've seen 12-15 points given for journals, notes and RP (both directly after and prayer posted).  I've heard of 20+ given for a well written history.  As with any type of reward, gain is directly proportional to effort.

Just me personally:

- journal: depends on content. I've given anything from -5 to 15 (don't spam us, don't post veiled complaints as journal, don't post journals without content). Small ones usually get 4 - 6, one where you see that there was a lot of effort spent on, more.

- prayer  submittals: anything from 3 - 15, depending on length, quality and effort. I usually give out more for real logs with emotes than for a replay tells

- HIstory: 10 - 15

I think everything that has to do with RP points has been sick, and extremely on point. Every time I've posted a log it was rewarded within a day. Everything I've read about RP points is extremely exciting to me, and I don't even understand half of it yet. I haven't looked at the Bazaar and I don't know what edges and RP -> PK rewards are yet. I've had the most fun playing lately, albeit rarely because of many of my own constraints, in much of my time here. This current Immstaff is easily the most progressive I've seen this game in YEARS. Props, cheers and the rest. I considered myself a veteran at one point, and I am renewb'd with all of the changes I'm still learning.
