Baan avian invoker vs Ekhurift werebeast ranger Syndicate L

To keep with the recent conversations about Invokers I've decided to post this log to show some attrition tactics I use for an Invoker. The first round is one of Ekhurift dominating with his pets. Most of our fights went like this. The damage with beasts was too much for me to stay in combat with. To counter that the second half of the log shows a round where I made Ekhurift choose to fight without his pets using Athelea's Manor. The Manor's door can be passed (pass door) but not unlocked by neutral/evils. Using tactics like this to separate pets and waiting to capitalize on the one perfect round seems to be how Mages are played. I am no master of the class, this has just been relevant to recent topics. The winning round in this came from quite a long battle that had him dominating. I like to think of this, so far, as played like a rogue.. most rounds will not go in your favor so you must learn to survive and capitalize on tactical choices like this.

Most of the rounds went like the above. After the break I went and put a firestorm up in Val Miran's Athelea's Manor.
Unfortunately I do not have more of the log - just these two rounds. Take note of mugwort rejuvenation and use it. Find
Gualorium! Use it! Be able to walk to as many temples as you can think of while blind. Learn the path to Marak from the
Underdark. Most importantly, use creative and tricky tactics to always keep your enemy guessing!

He only died because his 'pass door' got dispelled in a 2 room house, guaranteed he will never die like that again ;)

Bad luck also on his part is invoker rubbed the dirt out right before he fled otherwise he would have been resanced

or recalled.

Props on the tactics though, I didnt think people still fell for that one, heh.

UC

I think you're missing the point? This wasn't used to show that Baan could kill Ekhurift. It was to show Invokers can 'win' against this type of foe - using dynamic/outside the box tactics to take away another 'trouble' classes abilities to their advantage.

EDIT: Secondly Ekhurift knew what he was getting into, yet made the conscious decision to engage him there anyway so THAT is the reason he lost this battle and died. Dont go against a class that can dispel expecting them NOT to dispel you? (Am I the only one who thinks that would be moronic?)

Ekhurift got caught doing what all strong PKers do from time to time. Get arrogant. As Baan showed, he was dominating the fight for quite a while and chased anyways. Either expecting to do enough damage without pets or thought he could have quaffed a potion/smoked in time.

Looks like Baan played on Ekhrufit's cockiness and came out with the win.

EDIT: To piggy back on Anume's post below kinda... If Ekhurift WOULD have won this fight w/o his pets, imagine how badass that woulda looked... :P

No risk. No reward.

It is stated very clearly that death is to be avoided. Why would anyone take a risk to die in any situation? That is like telling soldiers to take more risks because it is more fun....the name of the game is to survive.

I know I've personally been held back for playing in a too 'boring' fashion (no promotion, no/bad titles, character directly weakened etc)...but to do anything else would be very OOC. This is a huge inconsistency. Oddly, it isn't like my characters have ever had a lack of kills...I mean, there is the joke we play for the enjoyment of the staff, but seriously? Ugh.... :(

Link to comment

Celerity and F0xx make me think I'm playing the game wrong.

By the look of the log Ekhurift isn't blind.

And any player of his caliber, knows that was a trap. And knows what to expect.

Why did he die? Why didn't he just recall? Or quaff a pass door potion? Or sanctuary?

I think this death is Ekhurift own fault. Sure Baan contributed to it by choosing this place (don't wish to diminish his good strategic choice), but Ekhurift froze like a newbie.

It show that a mage won because his opponent screwed up and chocked. The only magic class I can recall that can win even when their opponent does everything right are shamans (or hybrid DK who is half meele).
