Bard Changes

So some of you may have noticed...

Bards have been gradually getting additional skills and you've started to see nodes around Aabahran. Do not fret - bard's aren't yet completed. The way I'm introducing them may be odd, but I'm doing it skill by skill, piece by piece.

I'm hoping to be finished by the middle-end of the month; currently I've added 5 or 6 different abilities to their skillset. Some skills have been tweaked and some have been completely changed. Don't fret if you see some completely removed with the buffs we're adding to bards, which, I believe, are very original.

Some helpfiles are in, some aren't. If you have any questions, please stay them except for posting here: I'd prefer to answer everyone's questions here rather than have a bunch of people to answer to on the prayer forum.

For mystery sake, I'd also strongly advise everyone against sharing information you may find regarding material locations (if they're singular and reset somewhere). You can absolutely post about WHERE in Aabahran mineral veins and trees are that you can mine and chop down.

Effects created by the materials to bards should also be something not lightly spoken about - I'd like everyone to feel the mystery and fun in learning it on their own. Being that bards aren't quest classes however, this is more of a lenient suggestion. If this brings healthy discussion about what they might normally grant, MINUS the MORE RARE materials, I have no problem with you discussing them.

Hope you guys like the changes!

I think I'm gonna wait till they are done before I roll one and dominate.. :P

Question: If skills, spells, and songs are replaced with new skills what will happen to the practices spent on them? Will they be returned to the player in any way?

Depends on the level of the bard.

Usually, if they're already level 50, you gain the new skills at 75 proficiency. You won't get any practices back if I end up removing more skills than I already have (ie, knockout).

Awww.  And here I thought it was going to be an uber play on words:

You attempt to use a mineral vein.
You'll need a pick if you want to mine the vein.

You attempt to use a tree.
You'll need something sharp if you want to chop down the tree.

Bards: singing the local vegetation to death since 2015.

Weapon type is two-handed instrument.
Damage is 6d4 (average 15).

Improve your proficiency. Could be that.

You guys dissing bards are in for an eye opener.
I have no idea what their bardic mastery things are. But "maintain" hints at very interesting stuff.

Bards will no longer be a punching bag.

The damage verbs and instrument types are amazing. I had a very fun time making instruments.

I'm only skeptical on having a timer on something that may require some time commitment to empower. But it's to early to discuss such.

Also if the intention is for bards to PK with instruments they should have a timer to know it's duration, like cabal burnprof.

In the same line some sort of bless/evil flag effect material mambo jumbo might be interesting, due to the cost of paying for it on something that goes pop. That is if it's not there yet. I have only scratched the surface of what appears to be a long list of materials.

These are going to be some interesting egg hunts.

Also some newbie bards tips:

Bards REHEARSE their songs, they don't practice them.

Hitroll is extremely important for a bard. Or you won't break AC.

If you can't break it, dirt kick and Taunt. If even then, stop dual wielding.

Dual wield a dagger for defense, a dual parry one even better.

Two handed > dual parry, but you strike less.

You have cure serious, remember it.

There is an instrument shop in the Elven Kingdom. Some are 1 handed.

Maces > Swords in PK.

There is a good new 2 handed sword in the new Monastery underbowels. Get help.

Evil bards can wield Soulblighter. :spiteful: Storm bringer for Newtrals. Avalon knight black sword is good for all. Crussader sword in Emerald is holy, there is a starstone sword in steel, and the high guardian sword is great.

There are scrolls of bless and detect magic.

Wands of flight.

If you can't drop something, edge it.

Edge rare items to access it's vuln when throwing.

Bard throw is not-reliable. It can do big or it can do low.

Get the ice sword and icicles for Centaurs & Kaddar.

A bard can solo rank with a sword, a dagger and arrows + cure serious.

Fight thieves ninjas in the Forest, all others in town.

Blademasters will pawn you. Watch out for poison.

The best bard is an Avian Nimble perk bard, because bashing warriors will destroy you.
