"Vetiquette" - 5 things you can do to help the Pbase grow

Here are some (OOC) things you can do as a vet to help propagate the growth of FL. -let's be honest, a bit of OOC class is NECESSARY FOR THE SURVIVAL OF THIS GAME-

1.) If you're obviously on top (and ahead in character progression) - do not act all arrogant with veiled RP because, let's be honest, it may be for a number of reasons - one of which may be that YOU ARE NOT AS STRONG A PLAYER AS YOUR OPPONENT! Once the even ground (armor/cabal skills) has been reached, you're going to regret it when they're laughing as you're full looted.

a.) "You'll never win."

b.) "You're weak, pathetic, you know you're going to lose." etc..

- This type of behavior coupled with an attempted gang is what led to the only full loot I gave as Baan. I came back on equal ground and beat the living hell out of the mouthy opponent. If you talk copious amounts of trash, gang, or tag expect a full loot. CONVERSELY - ONLY FULL LOOT IN THESE SITUATIONS. It isn't against the rules, but it does make you out to be a NEGATIVE PART OF THE PBASE. Again, do we really want to just be playing alone? I know I don't.

2.) If you're dominating an enemy for the nth time in a row, give a less aggressive chase. Any of my cabal warfare opponents as Zaiis can note that I (once the standard has been grabbed) let them flee out of the area so long as they don't push for their standard. There is no need to MAKE SOMEONE QUIT THE GAME OR LOG OUT.

3.) Do not full loot. Period (SEE ABOVE FOR EXCEPTION.) Something I did once with Baan and with Zaiis (as the latter I was getting ganged by a newb and did not know he was new. Imagine how he felt when he came back to nothing. He did not log in for at least a week. I later ended up getting him decked with a Gear/Desolation run as Baan.)

4.) If you are going to play multiple characters MAKE YOUR ALT AN ALT THAT HELPS YOUR MAIN'S ENEMY! Why would you make two characters that could potentially have the same enemies - to make someone just quit the game? A good rule of thumb is to never roll two of the same aligned characters. Just don't do it unless you want to play alone.

5.) Sure, the element of surprise is nice.. but take a minute to RP outside of tells with your enemy. EMOTE, SMOTE, PMOTE! Bring color to the game. MUDers are a dying breed and there is a reason - the Vets do not play in a manner that is conducive to learning. Newbies won't stay because you (who once were newbies that were dominated) are now just trying to piss further than the next - woohoo, you got him.. now let him learn how to get you.

EXTRA TIP - STOP PLAYING YOUR BEST CLASS. JUST STOP IT. IT'S NOT FUN FOR ANYONE. WHO WANTS TO BE IMMORTAL?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CHARACTERS I'VE RECENTLY PLAYED AND THEIR ALTS:

Fjor (Stone Barb E) -----> Szaen (Human Praet V) -it looked like Knight was bouncing back and Nexus was on its way out so I rerolled to Zaiis to help Nexus and give Knight some fun. It backfired a little bit, unfortunately, but no strategy is perfect.-

Fjor (Stone Barb E) -----> Zaiis (Feral Reaver E)

Zaiis (Feral Reaver E) ----> Baan (Avian Watcher T)

Note the different align and cabal placement that is NEUTRAL to one another (often times at war, even. There is no need to have TWO DOMINATING EVILS)

I especially agree with #4 100%, all my chars are reverse of what my other chars are.

This also makes it easier as a new player to think to himself 'oh crap, that guys an enemy' just to come

back with a new chars and work your a$$ off to be his friend.

Id also encourage players to NOT hold grudges between chars in order to keep a good guideline between

each of your chars.

We all could also try not going OOC when you do get full looted. A lot of people do. And it's depressing to watch someone you might have promoted go OOC because they died and lost 3 high quality rares then turn around and call it a full loot.

The majority of you should also expect an actual full loot every time you die so you're susprised if you get anything back. Everyone wins here.

6) Pay your dues to the compassion imm, or he will gut you and string your entrails across the Chasm.

Obviously joking there.

Something I am serious about, though, is this: Do the above things. As veterans, we are expected to set the best example for the MUD. To echo my in-game RP angle: Be the change you wish to see. We all have a part to play in the health and betterment of our game and our community. This game lives and dies off of how well we treat those that don't have the skills we do.

I challenge each of you to find a new player in game, befriend their character with one of your own, and give them a constructive, positive experience that will keep them around.

It may be hard for new players to accept it the first time (or any beyond that) but it is a part of the game that we have all dealt with in the past.

I generally only will take one or two things, unless I am really under-equipped and somehow managed to kill someone that is decked. If you are decked and you get killed by someone wearing Tainted Valley gear, expect to lose most of your stuff. This should not be seen as a problem, but an opportunity to regain that equipment (or better) and also grow the character. I am sure the Imm's appreciate it when a character picks themselves up, continues to fight back, and often will reward that character for doing it.

That being said, many people take looting personally. PLEASE STOP IT!

Generally people will only take a few possessions unless you have given them a reason to otherwise (such as cockiness, declared your intentions to leave them naked, etc.)

What you put out into the game, you will get back. You don't want to be fully looted, don't piss people off and do not full loot anyone else. Generally you will get to keep most of your things.

DO expect to lose something, beyond what you lose in death. Two rares lost sucks, but it is a necessary part of the game. Learn to adapt.

No disrespect intended because I agree with what has been said.

I have not "looted" anyone in 16 years here.

I have sacrificed my enemies equipment to the gods, for reasons stated above, as well as, to keep them from returning straight away to steal my standard for the 6-7th time. A very IC reason to full loot by the way.

But I must have missed #6) Vote.
