Bad to Worse, in a matter of hours.

Recommended Posts

Maybe it is a sign from above that I should really leave. If I didn't have terrible luck I'd have no luck at all.

I know I said I was done but I decided to take Myas advice and try one more toon.

I did exactly what she said and rolled up a good aligned moderate bard to have some fun

and see what this new class is all about. Things were going pretty well until tonight.

It's amazing how one bad death can set off a series of unfortunate events...

I'm wandering around the observatory, just for fun, and decide to help a nice elf paladin

gather some gear. Unfortunately for me as we get the Goblin Chief down to pretty hurt

I get nailed by a trip into dirt/disarm followed by two straight bashes. I am completely

helpless at this point and can do nothing but watch as I get killed over 6 rounds I cannot enter a

command. Meanwhile the paladin stands there communing multiple wraths. It would have been

nice if he rescued me so I could have fled but whatever, I die and that sets off a chain reaction.

Now I am sitting naked at my pit waiting the 20 minutes for my wares because I cannot get

back to my corpse. Sadly I lost my two diamond wristguards (key items for a moderate). So now

I need to get them back. The paladin, who I guess felt bad for just watching me die, decides to try and

help me. We throw a few darts but no luck. I leave, gather some gold and return to the citadel. Keep

in mind my luck is MAXED. What happens? Bam, hit the skull, one way ticket to executionerville.

Dejavu, back at my pit naked, once again my corpse is somewhere I cannot retrieve. 20 more

minutes go by, now im 33k exp in he hole with a second mobdeath in one night. Pretty bad right,

but it gets worse. I decide to give up on the wristguards for now and I go about my business then BAM

game crashes. One of those crashes with no warning, no anomaly, just client d/c. About five minutes later

it's back up. Cool I think to myself, a quick reboot. Then as I log back in I see the game was restored to a

previous point in time, the point just after I died the second time. So now I am naked again at my pit, but

this time my gear is not coming back. Losing a few non rares is not a big deal, even some supplies could

be acquired again, but to lose every single material I harvested and all my fancy bard weapons is just

a huge kick in the face. The whole point of being moderate is to avoid this exact scenario, and yet here I

am, royally f***ed. How can I possibly not rage at this point? I lost so much time, again, it is infuriating.

Man, instead of writing a long ass whiny post here, why not just pray it? They will probably restore your character to a point before the two mob deaths even.

You know what's really fucked up? Buying a car you've always dreamed of, take care of it, fix everything by yourself, clean it, look after it like a little baby and then a month later have someone tear off the front grill out of it while you sleep during the night.

The other day I went to the doctor cause I hit my thumb taking care of my beloved car, my nail fell off and some shit has grown underneath it (warning, picture ain't pretty!). So as I enter the cabinet of my MD, together with me enters some older person, who promises me he won't take much of my time and is here just to ask a question. So he explains how how he has cancer and how the state provides him with free medications, but those medications are for 4 weeks every month, and since a month is longer than 4 weeks, sometimes he has a week in which there are no medications for. So the MD does some shady stuff in order to provide some free medications to her patient in order to cover that week and keep him alive. So the patient is very grateful and leaves. My turn comes and she turns to me, "Hello, what's wrong with you?"..... "Ehm... well.... I hit my finger and my nail fell off."

It was one of those moments when you realize how insignificant most of our problems are.

And then Anume will look at this post and chuckle, wishing to have her front grill ripped or her thumb smashed if only that would bring her brother back.

Shit happens. Such is life. And since FL is so much like life...

Wait until you get to the Pit to try to get your weapon, and the boss bashes you. :spiteful:

Think positively. Now you have a story to tell.

You should know better than to go to some far off place before pinnacle. The lieutenant is hard enough for pinnacle, much less for lower levels.

Just push to 50, do your training in a hole, and then get the EQ. Bards are extremely low eq dependent ranking.

Also buy that Love Rheydin ruble T-shirt in Maelbrim, to improve bash type to evade bash.

And use a staff to tank mob bashers.

I have the lucky perk and I've maxed my luck... died throwing darts two times... my first time... and my second which was subsequently my last! lol  c'est la vie. thankfully there are a lot of options for non-rare eq these days. :)

I've had the same experiences you've just described. 1.0 crashed all the time... I lost only owners (like dragon/spear of courage/Marina's Memoirs/etc...) -and things like that were never replaced then- getting killed while naked at the pit was quite common. most times, if you couldn't hide, you would have to wait somewhere outside of town and make sweeps to see if your stuff had returned. ganging was more prevalent, even ganging by the Conclave lol. still, even with the frustration, the game was so much more than the 'challenge' it presented. it was fun; it was fun because I could let go of the 'negative' and focus on the 'positive'.

FL, like life, is a swinging pendulum. at some point, you just have to learn to hold on and see it through till the end. just as you have 'bad luck' now, tomorrow may well be different. best of luck to you.

@Volg
my character has been bugged so many times... lol just didn't see a reason to hassle anyone further, especially when I would probably not play darts but once or twice... I can remember when there was a time I couldn't sign on because it would crash the game! I'm quite fine with not playing darts... besides, the experience has made me 'dart' shy. :P

to not derail this too much: Manual Labor, stick it out. I assure you there will be nights where you have so much fun, when you sign out you'll not be able to stop thinking about the game. you'll want to get back to it asap. that's how this game functions like a drug sometimes. lots of highs, but every so often you'll come down.

I do not believe in luck my friend.

Meditate on the events going on in the real world around you until you understand that the universe if neither for or against you and things will happen for better and worse. Be like water, stay low, follow the path that offers the least resistance in life and things will be easy. There is a very old proverb that states if what you are doing is difficult, you are doing it wrong.

The oceans and lakes became the kings of the rivers and streams by staying low, follow their lead, and let all things flow toward you.

With love and respect, I will await your triumphant return my friend.

If you were flying the lieutenant could not have tripped you. If you were flying and had pass door going while playing darts you could have simply fled the executioner. It won't save you from the pyromancer though.

FL is the original dark souls.

I realize all the deaths were preventable. That wasn't really the point. It was the succession of bad luck followed by a crash that sent the game back about 20 RL minutes which caused me to lose everything that ultimately made me lose my cool.

Also it was the Goblin Chief not the lieutenant, and mainly it was his back to back bashes right after a disarm that killed me. I took about 500 damage in 3 rounds which is not something a level 41 elf can usually survive. Again, I realize I could have avoided that entirely but deaths happen, its when the game breaks and you cannot get the contents of your corpse that really mess you up.

Yeah but rest assured we all deal with that. If you had fun while gaining the stuff and exploring then that is your value. What happens after must be reconciled independently. Have fun playing, period.

But luckily we have a cool staff that may reset you. You will likely be indentured to Anume if they do. Have you seen 50 shades of grey? It will be alot like that, but with more explicit content.
