Mudder
Yes, but their sector is actually lava. Doesn't this just add to the confusion?
Implementor Erelei Posted May 27, 2015 Implementor Report Share Posted May 27, 2015 I thought this whole discussion stemmed from colors actually depicting what sector that room was? IE: If a room is red, you assume it's a lava room. Not whether builders decide to use a different color for a sector like forest. Like, forest sector instead of being green, is blue. Mudder
The unspoken assumption is that these rooms are everywhere and the color chosen at random, which simply isn't true.I never assumed that. I think those colors were chosen because you thought it brought the "feel" of the area to you. I find that fundamentally wrong. I want the title to be consistent and deliver me the content I need. A room description is where I get the feel of the room. If you wanted to convey a prominent red carpet in a room, make an object... A long red (Use color here) carpet spread along the floor leads north and south. To me that is far more immersive and enhances RP. It draws way more attention than a jarring change that makes me think "WTF? Am I in lava? ...and if you think walking under a monastery, through a hall, and assume you're suddenly in a desert room based solely on the color then there's an interesting leap of logic somewhere I can't understand. Aren't there 2-3 lava rooms in the Forward Keep? Yes, but their sector is actually lava. Doesn't this just add to the confusion? Those three quotes, in order are why I think it confuses things. One Imm says, "Of course you aren't in lava. This is a castle, use your head dummy!" Then in fact, there is a Castle where you suddenly find lava. Whoops? Implementor Erelei Posted May 27, 2015 Implementor Report Share Posted May 27, 2015 Uh. No.. The thread, (I assumed, oh crap) was about rooms that were, for instance, grey instead of green, which you assumed was solely used for INDOOR rooms. Which we corrected was not. Having a different sector, using a different color, however, has happened (and will continue to happen) and is up to the builder. We all know red rooms (ie, lava rooms) can't be hidden in. We all know yellow rooms (ie, desert rooms) can't be hidden in either. Volgathras and I are simply explaining to you that EVERYWHERE (minus a couple IMM rooms and a new area) uses the color assigned to its sector. Green is forest, red is lava, yellow is desert, grey is swamp/indoors, blue is no-swim water, and light blue is swim water. If you're talking about walking along inside an indoor area, and coming across a lava room, you're know for a fact you can't hide in that room (9 times out of 10). Dale
I really don't see the point of this confusion. Room descriptions are there for a reason. If you don't like it then remove colors and use short room descs? I think it's all fine, with the exception of maybe a handful of typos and the occasional mistake that is easily reported. mya
I just want to say I love the (i think) simulated blood of that lava room. It's neat. And thank you for making it lava and not just painting the room red. Now what about this blissful falls? Can't wait to know more about a new area. The last one "Palm monastery" was amazing. (To me Aulians Lament is more of a Qarea.)

When I read these I think of the same thing. I am referring to this. The Western Wall of the Arena <---- That is a room title and is assigned a color based on it's sector. You stand amid the Combat Arena. It is what appears to be a very large, grassyfield, with small saplings and bushes planted haphazardly. It is quite large, and very airy. Bloodstains lie here and there from fallen corpses in battle, anda large masonblock wall surrounds the entire arena. The sounds of clashing steelcan be heard over all else. [Exits: none] The splattered brains of a spotted hyena are lying here. I was just saying, "Hey guys, these colors are very significant and show important information, let's not get weird with colors. They have defaults for a reason." -- And essentially asking how people felt on this. Which seems mixed. I still think putting colors in the room description is a better way to integrate an important feature to the environment, like in northern Maelbrim the grey text. I like colors and think the information they convey is important. Did you read the thread?
Dale
Yes I read it, the more I read it the less I understand your argument. Imo the information the colors provide is not important, Aulian even said he plays with different colors. And the ones you seem to be mentioning are probably the least of all important. Sorry if I offended you, previously.
Naruthiron
Colors are important. And for a vast majority of the game, they convey exactly what you are asking for and have in mind. The exceptions are very few, and an aesthetic choice of the builder's. I like keeping that the way it is. Sometimes the sector colors just do not fit the setting or the mood for the room in question. So in that regard, I think it helps RP immersion that much more.
Dale
I just don't have issue with the way any room is coded now. Or any other color for that matter. I guess what I'm trying to say is good job on colors guys As long as my health is yellow and red for critical and damage is colored I'm happy though. Mudder
Okay deal. I think almost all of us are on the same side, just to varying degrees of strictness. I completely accept that. @Dale: You didn't offend me. No worries.
