Dumb Theories

It was about year two here that I realized certain skills/spells could do interesting things at higher levels (or so I'd heard) and I developed the theory that maybe if I mastered invisibility I would get improved invisibility (attacking, being attacked wouldn't bring me out of the invisible state).  First spell I ever mastered.  Disappointed to say the least.

Had any theories that didn't work out?

Yes, that minotaur Imm brake4min or Grnathor or something once said that if you mastered refresh you doubled the moves refreshed...

What a waste of time...

But never be afraid to test something dumb.

I was testing with magik something about Halfling new vuln, and we both learned something about DK Cleave. :spiteful:

I used to think restrings granted all the powers I could imagine had to do with that restring. I understand sometimes characters are gifted things that make sense, but I thought a beholder restring would lose all armor and become an eyeball with new commands, same for all simple restrings. Didn't understand qraces/classes at the time. Getting a restring was endgame awesome for me. Now it's just the beginning! c:

Non-Japanese versions got access to the Emerald and Ruby weapons, not just us in North America.  I don't recall why they were added, though, but I don't think it was because the Japanese version got Aeris revived.  Aeris cannot be revived, regardless of version, end of story.

Pulled this from the FF Wiki:
"Unfortunately, from a plot standpoint it does not even make sense for Aeris to be able to be revived. She remains dead in the sequels Advent Children, and Dirge of Cerberus. Furthermore, her death was planned since the early stages of the game when only Cloud and Barret, along with Aeris herself, were playable, indicating that her death was been ingrained in the game's plot for the majority of its development. So canonically, it is impossible for her to come back in the game and yet still be dead in the sequels. This has, of course, not stopped non-canon revival rumors from spreading every once-in-a-while."

While I cannot confirm this particular block of text, it makes sense as to the why you cannot and so, it's good enough for me.

Hmmm, Valek brings up a very interesting idea.  I think it would be cool if a character's proficiency in invisibility was greater than another char's detect invis proficiency...they couldn't see the invisible person.  Same with hide / detect hidden, camo/keen

But obviously this would just turn into more spam-training

Improved invisibility is not unheard of in the MUD genre. However, in such a heavy PK game like FL where a great many classes rely so heavily on consumables. I'm afraid this would only harm inexperienced and newbie players.

If this spell were to exist, I would suggest it only for a very select few classes (like one) or perhaps an Imm gifted RP reward.

EDIT: Generally it functions as a spell that does not fade when in combat. AKA: Fighting an invisible opponent has same effect as fighting while blind.

  • 2 weeks later...

I never train hp/mana/move before 50, I'm afraid it will affect my level ups.

I have heard this before. I have played multiple of the same race/class combos, and honestly I did not see but a 20 hp difference for waiting at the top end. That could be as you claim do to using trains early, but it could just as easily be caused by luck at the time of the level up. For me the jury is still out on this one.
