The Throne of Terror

Deep within the ruins of Xymerria, a lone structure still stands tall. Complete silence befalls the palace of House Zareerae, save for the skittering of spiders and the scurrying of driders along the courtyard and entrance hall. An eerie calm belies the dark truth of what awaits deep within this bastion of lies and murder. Sheikk, the former servant of the Matron Mothers since the days of Do'Rekkdin, lies bloodied and dying at the base of the Grand Stairway. Long has she warned of the terrors which lay inside, and protected hapless adventurers from meeting their doom. Now, she is gone, and none remain to keep the horrors contained. There remains naught but a question... Dare you enter the palace?

I knew you would.

I knew you sought my treasures, my power, my throne. My secrets. So come, my pets. Come inside my home. Drink of my wine, and taste of my bread. Choke on my air.

You'll find that once you enter, leaving is no simple task. You see, some time ago, I left you all a parting gift. Several, in fact. The time has come to see what Mother Dearest has given all of you. The surprise will be simply to die for. What are you waiting for? Come make yourselves at home. It's not every day that outsiders are given the freedom and luxury to enter the chambers of the Matron Mother. I won't take no for an answer. I won't.

Come, see the future that is the drow, even if they have yet to embrace it. Deep within, you will find my creations, my legacy. They will be glad to entertain all manner of guests. Our hospitality will certainly ensure that once the door closes behind you, never again will it open. There will be merriment, there will be laughter, there will be exuberance, and their will be progress. The strongest among you will be put to the truest test, and your strength and conviction shall be rewarded. Such is the way of Zareerae.

Enter now, if you have the courage.

Welcome, all! I wanted to take the time to go over some upcoming changes in preparation for a MAJOR release coming out here shortly, the Throne of Terror. This zone lies deep within the heart of Xymerria, and is home to a great number of big, scary creatures. But wait, there's more! These are not your garden variety Big Nasties. There are many tricks and surprises to watch out for, encouraging team mechanics and quick thinking to overcome the challenges. This zone WILL be far more challenging than any other to date, and I would heavily advise that you do not try to solo it, or even 2-man it. 3 is still stretching it.

Why so difficult? Well, because we are also introducing a new variety of items in this zone: Set items. Set items are very different from other armor pieces. They will not give you stats (hitroll, mana, saves, none of it). Instead, collecting set items unlocks utility to compliment your class skills. We will start off small, with this version of equipment sets having only 3 items, however I strongly believe that this is just the first step, and that future equipment will be introduced to change this initial setup.

There is also a means to modulate the difficulty of some of the content. The zone starts off on the highest difficulty, and the difficulty can be lowered by those clever enough to figure it out. Be warned, however, that lowering the difficulty also lowers the returns. The lower the difficulty, the less equipment is generated. It will be up to all of you to figure out not only how to lower the difficulty, but also how far you want to lower it.

You may ask me questions about this zone in the time between now and release. I will answer questions that do not go into specifics or great detail about the items, mobs, quests, or certain zone mechanics. Please do not post these questions in prayer. If you have a question that you do not want made public, please send them to me in a private message. The other imms will (largely) not have the answers anyway.

To Enethier: Sorry it took me so long to get this far on your idea. Hopefully you are happy with the result. Thanks for your patience.
