Old/New players idea

You're right, it will be.

Entire thread of people trying to help you and you blame that same playerbase for your mistakes and self-victimizing perspective. From what I've seen here you've never once considered how it would feel to be that other player that gets called out and assumed trashy because he killed somebody in a PvP game, and then had the audacity to try and drum up a conversation with you so you wouldn't feel like you were killed just to fill a quota or bloat a record.

For the record: coming to a thread and trashing the playerbase for not coddling your characters in-game (where nobody ((should)) know it is you) is a piss poor way to try and improve anything. Getting on a soap box and crying victim, basically saying this other player is a piece of garbage for killing your character IN A PVP GAME is a very quick way to lose all credibility as a person. Come on, we are all adults. Act like it, or take it elsewhere.

Going forward: Let's return this thread to its original intent. No more using it as a podium to air your dirty laundry to the forum. If you have an issue with an in-game event, bring it to the prayer forum and leave it there.

Honestly, I am a little disappointed. This thread quickly became a bickering match, not intended.

Manual Labor, I hear your story and honestly can relate to your frustration. I can point to all that has already been said, it was what would be said in the past as well. The toughen up princess line gets tired quickly. I am saddened to hear that you would not encourage anyone to play this game, and in fact would argue against it (maybe I misunderstood what you were saying). However, I think you do care about this game, else why would you post? If you want to stop seeing what you regard as bad examples, make some good ones to give our players something to reconsider. I know I have myself been guilty of PK's that could I would consider cheap and did try and make up for it with some good RP.

I don't know if any others have experienced this, but sometimes you get so caught up in the moment, the thrill of the PK, and I am oblivious to how bad a position I have caught them in. I would say now, more than in the past I have learned to recognize it and let them flee. Give them a RP talking to about being unprepared, etc. Although that happens very little.

This is quickly turning into an essay, so I will wrap this up with this. This game is about PK, and while it is true that we as the players of the game are given an unspoken duty to foster an environment that makes it fun for all, this will not always happen. We are given tons of lives and are able to bounce back from a death. Keep in mind you are playing with others that are just as inperfect and prone to mistakes as you, and try and forgive them, from time to time.

There are free VPN applications out there.

You can also get away (generally speaking) with port redirection. So long as they aren't stringently checking protocols, you can sometimes get RDP to move over port 80 (HTTP). You may also find remote desktop clones, which do the same thing as RDP but with a different protocol function, that may run in the open port range.

Remote desktop web connection is based off ActiveX, which may be allowed through the firewall (I believe this particular application is 3389 - same as RDP, the only real benefit is that it uses ActiveX, so it may bypass protocol filtering).

The most basic, albeit more dangerous, solution is to open RDP connections from your home computer, take the external IP of your router (google search "what is my ip"), go to your router IP address (start>run>cmd.exe  then ipconfig and find your default gateway IP, that is your router, put that string of numbers into your browser). Most likely it is 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 - although some vary. Then port forward 3389 to your home PC. At work, you then just go to start>run>mstsc.exe and put in your router's external IP (from what is my ip) followed by :3389 (i.e. 66.76.139.180:3389). Then just login. Downside: any script jocky that decides to brute force your external IP can eventually crack your password and gain access. Highly suggest using a 16-character password. Contrary to common belief, its actually more secure (due to human element) to use short phrases as your password. Easier to remember and harder for cracking algorithms to break just because they tend to brute force starting at 0 character strings until it finally cracks your password. Short, complicated passwords are just security theater. They only make it seem harder to get into.

That said, getting an application like Watchguard SSLVPN is far and away the better option. SSL almost guarantees your firewall at work will let the traffic pass, so long as the SSL keys are done properly. LogMeIn also works very well with the same concept, although for that program you pay an arm and a leg just for a fancy interface that really means nothing, and an easier setup that pretty much handles configuration for you. Any reputable SSLVPN program is acceptable. If you have the patience and know-how to get it setup, this option is just vastly superior to all others.

I could spend hours typing up a hundred different ways to bypass firewalls, but I'll spare you the wall of text. If you're really that interested, inbox me.
