Re: Lejarak

This post, just like the farewell thread for Tkanzhar which I never made, is a post I've wanted to

make for a while, but after my departure I really didn't see any worth in such a hassle. I will use

this opportunity now though, even though I probably shouldn't, since you already got your main thread

locked, and rightfully so.

Chesta, why are you like that mate? I honestly sometimes ask myself if people get some kind of pleasure

by making the game unpleasent for others? Even your "goodbye" thread is full of attempts to make people

(namely the staff) bitter because of the things you said to them. Is that how you want to be remembered?

As someone who breaks all kinds of rules, then insults the staff and leaves? Or you don't care? Or have

you ever cared about anything else than satisfying your own ego? (yes, I know, the irony is strong :P )

You are one of the strongest PKers currently, but instead of using this to build a game environment for

others to enjoy, you clinge to all kinds OOC grudges and twist your ingame behaviour and RP to suit them.

You actively use and abuse every little whole you find, and while some are simply clever ways of combining

different tactics, others are straight bug abuses, RP and rule breaking and generally OOCness that cheapens

this game to something like Counter-Strike.

And while Lejarak was SOME improvement over Rapacialant, I honestly do not understand why you were even

allowed to apply for Savant after what you did with Nexus. There is one thing to in-characterly betray

your cabal, and completely another to do it in the OOC manner like you did, for the sole purpose of

weakening a specific set characters who are played by people against whom you hold OOC grudges. Not

just that, but bringing your OOC friend in, in order to attempt to "politcally" expell someone who you

couldn't defeat in battle was rather sad.

I don't understand why you weren't denied straight away after all the rule breaking really, but then

I don't understand why Ghrundor's ban was lifted to begin with. I think the staff believed, and perhaps

still does, that having a trashy player is better than not having it.

What you see as favoritism with some ("favoured") players getting their promotions faster than you, is

simply the staff's way to tell you you are not doing something right thus slowing your promotions.

Honestly, you could have achieved so much with the speed, skill and knowledge you command...

We believe that everyone should have the chance to change and improve their behavior. This game has become a large and well loved part of life for many people over the years. It is our duty to accommodate the perpetuation of enjoyment for everyone. While this is most commonly seen when we have to step in for discipline, it also means that we owe it to everyone to provide them with chances to redeem themselves. Personally, I don't dislike anyone. I've had my share of disagreements with many of you before, and some after, becoming an immortal. However, this position offers a ton of perspective that, as a player, I had lacked before. Being exposed to it all now, I feel that at least personally speaking, I owe it to everyone to be non-biased and supportive, even if that means some tough love every now and again. I can't imagine the rest of the staff having too different of an outlook on this, knowing them for the 15 months that I have.

Unfortunately, anonymity of discipline leads to skewed reports. Our small playerbase means that those skewed reports impact bias against administration exponentially more than it does in bigger games. We're a small, close-knit community. Nothing happens that isn't immediately spread to others and dissected. This can lead to a lot of distrust and agitation. The easiest thing to do in situations where those factors are present is to point fingers. While some of it is legitimate, and there have been problem players in the past, the tendency to focus on the behavior and not the cause is a bad way of doing business, especially for administrators.

It may be unpopular to continue to offer chances to players that cheat, abuse bugs, act trashy, or drag OOC motivations and comments into the game world, I assure you that far more often than not, the extra attention and chances given lead to reformation. The changes may not be sudden or sweeping, but each improvement is a step in the right direction. And progress, after all, is nothing more than a collection of positive steps.

In the end, the players that won't, or can't, reform their behavior tend to tread a very particular route. They act out, get disciplined, then quit when punished. It does lead to backlash against the staff, but I would rather that kind of hate be directed at me than at a community largely filled with exemplary people that just want to come together and have fun.

At the end of the day, that's all it's about.

Sidenote:

It took MY mortal 3 months (!!) to get promoted from V to T on my last Nexus. Talk about favoritism ;)

If your playtimes do not match your Imm's, then you'll have to shine in other ways to get noticed. By now, we have great tools for this (journal, rp logs, get involved in politics or rp with others, even if, or esp if, it's in a supportive role)
