We Americans will have a new president next year. (insert candidate here) will not do a worse job.

Edit. Unfair. I did not reply. I personally liked Carson. (Shrug)

Edit: Odd to mention names of republicans and leave out Abe Lincoln who signed the emancipation proclamation, and Thomas Jefferson founder of the Republican Party.

Not really the same party now as it was then though, now is it?  Not the same party now as it was even just 30 years ago, never mind 200+.  FDR, one of the biggest expanders of govt. social programs in US history, was also a Republican, as was Teddy Roosevelt the Trust Buster - and neither would have a chance in the party as it exists today.  Nor would Eisenhower.  Nor would Nixon, nor even Reagan.  None of them could've withstood the modern GOP's conservative purity tests, and none of them were authoritarian enough to pull a Trump.

Most of the Roosevelts were republican so understandable to make the wrong assumption there.  Honestly though for a few reasons I have to say between the ones that are left I do hope that Trump wins.  I in no way believe he will be an outstanding president but I do believe he'll be the best thing to correct some of our politicians and get them to do better while in office.  A few years ago I wouldn't consider voting for him but these days I think we need one guy to come in and be honest even if it hurts feelings, to say what needs to be said even if it isn't politically correct.  He's going to be wrong on some things but hopefully he shakes the foundation so our next president does an excellent job.

That's what I don't understand. I haven't ever heard him say one honest thing. Almost everything he says is either a blatant lie, an attack of some sort, or a run around because he doesn't know or doesn't want to give an answer. I hear people say all the time just what you have- that he tells it as it is even if it's not politically correct and I don't understand it at all. There are multiple sources fact checking all of the candidates and he consistently ranks at the bottom in terms of truth and accuracy.

And this scares me.  People actually willing to vote for this cancer.

Voting for Trump for President and thinking that he's the best thing to correct some of our politicians and get them to do better is like saying that as you've hired out plumbers that did a mediocre job at fixing your hot water heater, the best way to have the other plumbers do their job better is by burning your house down.

Trump isn't speaking the truth, he's fearmongering; spouting out what everyone wants to hear, not the truth everyone needs to hear.  Bernie's at least telling people some of the truth they need to hear.  Bernie may not be the best candidate, but certainly better than Trump or Clinton.  Or you could vote for me.  I certainly couldn't do worse than Trump.

I'd make some quip about that if he was elected, the only good thing to come out of his presidency would be the fact that I wasn't around for the last assassination.  But that just would be stooping to his level.

Depends on who is taxed and how much and what it's used for, Morl.  A small increase across the board with those making $250K+ getting a higher percentage isn't bad.  If it makes higher education affordable (not free, affordable) once more, the better.  Even if it's just federal taxes that rise, a good number of us will still get the majority of that back come April 15th anyway.

While these three sites don't agree as to how much the taxes will increase, none of them show 80%+ hikes.

http://rebrn.com/re/the-new-bernie-sanders-proposed-tax-brackets-compared-to-rates-t-2146145/ The formatting on this one is especially eye-gouging.  Sorry.

Additionally, I'd rather a small tax hike with someone in office that works toward equality than a bigot in charge that has made a number of large financial blunders over his career who seems to be in the campaign only for the publicity.

Still.  If you don't like any of the candidates, there's always me as a write in.  :cheese:
