Returning and bringing the kids!

So I'm returning now, was talking to my kids about this game when they asked me what multiplayer games I used to play when I was young and they want to give it a try!  Sadly though I only have one pc so one is on the tablet and the other is on my phone.  I guess it's fine, they're younger and aren't really understanding the RP portion of the game yet.  Have any of you ever used the blowtorch program and what actions would you suggest I save?  Trying to set them up with pre-programmed buttons to press for actions since both are slow at typing and keep forgetting what to type.

Edit: My sons are old enough to play but aren't quite understanding it fully.  Have any of you taught a younger person who's used to controllers and graphics on how to play a mud?  Looking for any advice, having to sit between them both now and show them stuff while they watch my screen.

It is a whole other world. I don't recommend playing the game on a phone or tablet tbh. Your best bet IMO is to let them watch you play on your PC and learn by watching. Then you can alternate between the 3 of you on your PC. Since technically you can only have one person on per IP address anyway you don't really need to play all 3 at once. That way whoever i splaying their character can get the full experience and have the help of the other two with over the shoulder coaching :D

Good luck and welcome back!

MUDing on a tablet is fine if you're going to simply RP.  Running around getting the hang of battle in the 1-10 range might not be bad either.  Or as an adventurer.  PK ... don't PK on tablet.  I think it might actually be worse PK'ing on a tablet than telnet, come to think of it.  Not without a good number of triggers/macros/etc anyway.  Not that someone that young getting into a MUD would do a lot of that to begin with, but you never know.  As a startup platform, tablets aren't that bad.  But make sure they're just that, a stopgap.  In the MUD Apps I've downloaded, some have the standard navigational hotkeys so moving around should be simple enough.  Setting up macros/triggers shouldn't be too difficult either.  Also make use of the alias system in game.

Blowtorch is one of the better choices but also seems to be temperamental.  Was for me anyway.  It has the bonus of preprogrammed direction buttons onscreen of which you can customize to suit your needs.  I think the basics it comes with should be enough to start with, though.  Solid 4/5.  AndroMud isn't bad either but takes a bit more work to set up and it isn't in the Play store.

Ithric's suggestion of a "cheat sheet" is a superb idea for budding young players.  Directions, opening/unlocking things, consider, practice, train, look, scan.  Basically everything the MUD school teaches you.  Or a little more comprehensive, the "help ?" file and add short descriptions of each command.

As for the multiple people on the same IP, they have in the past and to my knowledge, still can so long as it is multiple people and they're not in cahoots with each other.  (help multi)  They also were watched like a hawk.  Think library LAN.  Of course, that's completely up to the discretion of the Staff.  Certainly an issue I'd take to Prayer.
