Ambroas
Hey everyone! So while I'm not a 100% noob I'm not an expert at all on this game and have a question. I've decided to break my norm and not go healer/druid/cleric and play a combat class. So I chose a Monk because they seemed the most complicated and one I've always wanted to try. Now though I have an issue, the equipment that I used to use has either changed or encumbers me. Basically I'm used to mithril at 50 (I know). So please any advice for equiping a monk or requiping after pk since I plan to challenge often will be a huge plus. Also for non encumberance characters do you have any sugguestions or links? Kyzarius
One thing to do is use the arena. Good basic gear. Are you good align? The chasm dragon has a socket item you can combine with the arena neck piece. Also ask about in game. We have a lot of vets out there and they will help you equip. f0xx
I will be blunt here. Monk is not a class you want to play. It is not a class with which to learn how to EQ yourself. Monks are a class that relies heavily on the luck factor. Playing a monk is like playing a game of cards. On the other hand, a monk (just like a blademaster) has a special way of working with EQ which no other class has. Some EQ will encumber you, you need to have your hands free, you have special "weapons" i.e. beads... I would suggest something more mundane, aka ogre warrior/ranger in Gladiator. That's a good combo to learn EQ and the lands/EQ with. But in the end, follow your heart. You never know where you will find the class that suits you best. Ambroas
I decided to go with your idea, but correct me if I'm wrong don't rangers get nerfed a bit when they join WM?
Trick
Not at all.
Implementor Erelei Posted March 27, 2016 Implementor Report Share Posted March 27, 2016 They lose their spells, until they go Barbarian, or if they stay Gladiator, they can't use their spells again.
Zhurong
I wish I could have a ninja WM, lose study and assassinate. I think that would be very fun.
Manual Labour
It is fun. You dont need to lose assassinate, just study. And of course you lose cure light and ikuzachi (which is worthless anyway). edit: although I have not tried a ninja since the push rework so I am not sure if a doublesheath ninja is still viable as a melee character. f0xx
There have been ninjas in WM before, I think it was even Manual Labour's ninja? It was pretty strong. I think ninjas in Gladiator should get the same bonus as thieves though (sidestep stab or w/e it was called).
Zhurong
Doublesheath ninjas are wicked. I capped 5 Watchers back to back with my Half-Elf Ninja Tribunal.
Manual Labour
Is that quote from me? Laence was a half-elf tribunal ninja smurf and he did some work. Grawrer was my feral ninja gladiator, I won a lot of fights abusing push and murder throw.
Ambroas
I'm just curious, why Gladiator vs Tribunal/Knight? And why an Ogre? With magic weakness and cabal enemies being mages isn't that a bad combo when compared to a Halfling ranger? Knight seems to have the most members on which makes me think I'd get more support there. Warmaster is probably the next most active I see, but with Knight I get another pet to boost my damage haha. Also, my son went Warrior and was messing around while I was at work and discovered Berserker (he loves the idea of an ogre berserker, keeps thinking Hulk in his head) well he asked me if they're as good as Warriors and I wasn't quite sure since I've always played communers during my times playing. Any opinions? Not sure if they've been buffed since I played years ago. Edit: Also are there any Ranger pros who can give me advice?
Enethier
Berserkers, in my opinion, are high skill-floor, low skill-ceiling. They're pretty simple, but only have 1 and a half viable path options. They were buffed some time ago, but they also suffered a bit of a nerf once cleaving stopped permanently breaking things. If you're fighting a caballed enemy, there's no point to cleaving most of the time. devastation zerks are pretty one dimensional. Fury zerks can help against the permanent burnproofing, and anger is just... no. Once you learn how to time your all of about... 3 routine combat skills, that's pretty much it. sarduarkar
Warrior and Ranger are solid first choices to explore the lands (Good melee offense + defense = better for PVE). I'd also recommend Warmaster and a neutral alignment so you can receive help from everywhere. Tribunal... sure you get an extra pet (which doesn't help in PVE btw), but now you're obligated to hunt criminals. Knight isn't a bad choice for the support, however they are somewhat full and have some pretty nasty enemies too. But in the end, you should pick what you are drawn to. At the end of the day, its about creating a char and a path you love because that is where you will have the most enjoyment. Ogre is always among the top choices for their high strength, high hp pool, and fast regeneration speed. Certainly you can try other races like feral, stone giant, slith, duergar/dwarf, etc. But for raw benefits overall, ogre is a good pick even with the magic vulnerability. Not to deter you from the other choices though. I've seen some strong non-ogres too. Berserkers and monks are just plain fun classes to play. High offensive damage capabilities makes for an enjoyable time PVE (as long as you aren't the tank). If your son is just getting his feet wet, i'd say have at it and enjoy yourself. In the PvP realm, however, they require a lot more finesse and skill to succeed with. Usually you will be fighting an uphill battle against classes like warriors that WILL outmelee you. But at the same time, you get some unique skills which can be deadly in the right situations. Hope this information helped.
Sandbox
Warmaster may no longer be a good newbie choice, they're currently at war with everyone.
Implementor Erelei Posted April 25, 2016 Implementor Report Share Posted April 25, 2016 That's why it's a good choice. Not necessarily being at war with everyone - rather, they're always being forced to fight and their RP is centered around fighting, thus increasing PK skills for those that need it. Sandbox
ah, great point. hadn't thought about it that way.
Ambroas
Would you all consider every Ranger path to be viable? From the help files here's how I see it: Archery: More finesse, must know when to use what arrows. Can be severely hampered though by the anti arrow scroll making it weak. Beastmaster: More about survival and auto damage, useful in all situations. Tracker: Good for those who already know how to PK and need to lag their enemies, as well as are strong enough to be the hunter and track them down. Sandbox
Tracker is generally regarded as the strongest. I enjoy all 3, archer can feel the most annoying, because of people firing back farther than they can normally shoot and missile immune scrolls. Archer is awesome for soloing quests though. Naruthiron
Archers can (chance, not always) pierce through missile immunity.
