Giving it another go

Hi Everyone! I've been lurking around the forums for a couple of days now - reading change logs, old forum discussions and such.  I'm glad to see this place is still kicking. In the past my forum name was Talcian (though I could have swore it was FinalWarrior at some point - I could only find old references to Talcian). Anyways, I think I'm going to be rolling up a character soon. I created one just briefly the other day and saw there were 6 online. Is this about the average nowadays?

I ask because: 1. More people = more fun and interactions.  and 2. In regards to leveling / soloing.

Also I've noticed several posts about consumables, granted some of these are old. Are they so prevalent now that you have to stock pile them to be competitive?

Finally that leaves just one more question. What to roll!? I know that training now is roughly half the time it use to be - so that's great! And I know it will definitely take me awhile to learn all the new items and locations. So all the above factors might sway my decision. I was thinking a Paladin, Shaman or Dark Knight but I'm open to ideas.

Thanks for your help - Looking forward to it!

Welcome back. :)

People online range from 1 to 9 (what I've seen), so there's pretty much always someone online. :) Actually, I've very rarely been the only player in who-list.

Consumables are abundant, and if you're willing to go for the herbs, you wont run out as long as you have the cash, unless you get unlucky with seeing a stocked Merchant online.

Bard! :D People actually have been crying how OP they are. :D On the other hand, there's so many bards that there's almost constantly least one bard around.

May want to give a solo class like warrior a try to get your feet wet.  A lot has changed since back in the day.  Consumables are a bonus but aren't end all (except sanc/prot).

Peak hours seem to be aroun 6pm-3am CST.  Ranging from 4-10+ and growing every day.  Staff and players are pretty help friendly atm.  Ask ask ask..

Start with an adventurer to just re-learn the layout of the lands, you also get a lot of free practices that way (the trainings you use will be deducted later on from your total trains however, so don't use them).

Once you know how to walk from A to B, join a guild and do a 1 liner journeyman application, you'll get a small bonus that will help you out to relearn things.

If you are not a friend of consumables, go Gladiator.

You can get identify for a small sum of rp points at the bazaar now, so that would be helpful if you do not roll a class that inertly has the skill.

If you want to learn by soloing stuff, I recommend an avian bard (calm, can heal hp, mana and moves, can pick lockboxes), ogre warrior or any ranger archer (sleepy arrows).

The bard is the most training intensive of those three by far however.

As to numbers, I've seen around 15 from time to time lately. Any rank 50 will jump to the chance to help you rank from 40 upwards as they get 1 rp point for each rank you make. The group range has been widened from 8 to 10 ranks now as well, so theotretically, a level 30 and 50 could group around a level 40. ;)
