Ambroas
Looking for a new mud client, using Gmud right now but I'd really like one that I can setup with these features: alias by profiles so when I'm playing I can have mine and kids can have theirs. And a MAPPER. Currently I'm logging trips and then breaking down the logs into directions only on how to get around but a mapper would be excellent. In 2010 here Lord Antisonic promoted Portal Gt D which is the only client with mapper I could find with search function. I'd also like to try and make a tic timer if I could, keep missing it or dirting right before it.
Ambroas
Cancel that request, found one! Mapper took a bit to setup but now I've mapped a few locations. Helps me remember how to get to places plus I can speed walk

Ambroas
I'm using Cmud, did the 30 day free trial to see how it worked before I bought and I LOVE it. Made a few triggers so it wouldn't map if I walked into a wall, wasn't flying etc... Didn't take long to learn how to set up one way exits or portals, even made triggers so when I go in rooms it does things like gives gate golems gold. It doesn't do very well with the maze rooms but what I've figured out is to make those areas yourself. I only know my way through one of them by heart right now so what I did was made a path through there putting in my own rooms manually exits and all in the directions I needed to go. If you've ever built a mud it's basically the same. Anyways, got it set and did from the vampire tombs all the way to Miruvhor, all of the cities and spreading out from there. I can be in the tombs, choose the center of miruvhor and speed walk all the way to it and it hasn't misstepped once so far. Put the speedwalk to slow so it does it one step at a time which works better. This is also helping me explore new areas! Here's two pics of my mapping so far. sarduarkar
Omg, that map on the side bar looks so awesome. How do I do this?
Ambroas
Simply download Cmud, it has a button that says mapper. You'll tap it and it'll begin. I like to organize mine into the game's zones but guess you don't really have to (it's much more organized and better to though) Ugh this game has so many overlapping rooms though! If you try to go through them it sets it up with rooms on top of rooms and doesn't help you any. If I knew how to get through them like the forest south of Miruvhor i'd be set haha. Not even going to try the forsaken lands for now! Edit: Oh and if anyone's wondering, if you put in slow walk it enters the next direction after you've entered the room instead of stacking them all. Best thing about this: You can reapply spells like sanctuary while it's moving you, you can cancel it at any time if attacked, and it chooses the shortest route on the areas you've mapped! Bad part is it's predictable, if someone were to map them as well they'd know if you went from one area to another how it'll take you so they can camp there. f0xx
That mapping looks pretty awesome. I've never used such thing before. How does it work when you get blinded?
Magick
You should also be able to color coordinate the rooms to indicate terrain too, if you wanted. There might even be a way to automatically do it, though I haven't gone that deep into it. Just saying. @f0xx The rooms themselves don't change, nor do the exits, doors and other map related features. The map is still there, still up and not dark. As you slow/speed walk, it can open doors for you, I believe unlocking them too if you've got the key, and your current position will update as you move. Thunderclap is an issue though, as you can imagine. If you're asking if it'll map while blind, yes you can. You won't get the room descriptions or name, but you can still map the area and go back later and add the relevant information in either manually or automatically. Of course, you can prevent it from mapping while you're blind. Might be for the best as it could try to re-draw the rooms as you run. Just have it ignore direction with the phrase "You can't see a thing!" much in the same way you have it ignore direction when you run into walls. This means you need to re-pin where you are on the map which isn't overly difficult. All this is on Zmud, too. And then there's zmapper, which is a whole 'nother ball game. Not a necessary ball game, but it takes the mapper up a notch. @Ambroas The overlapping rooms are a problem yes, but that's mainly for the older/stock area's. Val Miran is atrocious, as you've gathered. Most of the other areas/cities aren't nearly as bad. Area's like the Shadow Grove are random and I don't think there's a best way to map those. Areas like the Dune/Dead sea are easy, and I believe that includes the Forsaken Lands. Just a matter of knowing which room you've looped into. Ambroas
@Magick. Yes you can color cordinate. I'm going back through now and making forest rooms green, flying light blue and water dark blue. Haven't found a way to do this automatically and initially didnt plan to do it. Edit: Do believe you can share maps and I don't mind sharing the areas I have now. You'd just have to connect them to areas you've mapped OR use mine entirely if starting new. Magick
Sorry, that "should" was less a maybe and more a throwback from my "giving myself deniability" days. Yes, you can change the room colors. (Might I recommend using light blue for the shallow water instead? In game uses cyan for flying rooms.) You can multi-select rooms through click-and-drag for blocks as well as shift-click for individual/addon rooms. Changing room colors automatically would involve the %roomcol parameter, which isn't that difficult. It's extracting the color from the room name that's a bit tricker. If I sat down with it a bit, I'm sure I could come up with something, but I'm far too lazy to do that. Also something to keep in mind, just because a room is colored a certain way, doesn't mean that the sector matches. A red room indicating a flaming forest for example, would still likely be a forest sector, not lava.
Ambroas
Mostly I'm just coloring the forest where I can camo, the areas I need a boat, and the areas I need to fly. It's not so I know every area, just so I know what I can do around me.
