well today my liscense was suspended and I don't know if any of you can help me but I thought I would ask since all you guys are pretty cool. Well it all started last june when I recieved my first ticket ever shich was for rolling through a stop sign which in Michigan is 3 points, then a week later got one for going 5 over the speed limit, that was completely my fault(2 points), and my last one was on the crappiest day of my life, just got a newish car less than a month before for a graduation present and was heading to best buy to get a stereo installation kit for my stereo. while i was heading there the power was out on a block with an intersection of 2 four lane one way roads and i didn't realize it because I was just going with traffic and drove the route a million times and had the light timed in my head so I didn't even see it was out. everyone slammed their brakes around me except me and then I saw a nice new BMW in front of me, slammed the brakes, hit him in the side he got a large dent in the back wheel well and was able to drive home, told me he did the same thing i did and didn't realize it because he was looking at the reporter on the side of the road which was waiting for an accident to happen. well I got a ticket for that for running a stop sign (3 more points) fought it and lost but dropped the fee to 65 bucks, so things weren't looking to good for me since i couldnt get my car fixed I had to get a cheaper car and have spent every month since fixing something. few months later had to go to secretary of state for a reexamination where he just asked me a few questions then slapped me with a restricted liscence where I couldn't drive past 10 pm except for work and couldn't have any passengers for 6 months. made it through that fine until the last week where my friend and I went out at 11:30 to talk because he just broke up with his girlfriend. cop pulled me over for a burnt out licsense plate bulb and gave me a warning for that but a ticket for violating my restricted liscence (2 points total of 10 now) paid that ticket then got my liscence back after paying 125 for it ive had it for a little over a month now then get a letter from sec of state, had to go back in for a reexamination. go in he asks me 2 questions tells me to go sit, 2 minutes later hands me a nice piece of paper that says my liscence is suspended for 2 months then after that I have to pay 125 and its back to the old restrictions for 6 months then i have to pay 125 for my full liscence back. thing is though that I am a pizza deliverer living on my own with a friend and need a car to live. my mom lives in north carolina and i cant go out there. so as of right now i am about to be broke, jobless, carless, and possibly homeless. I might appeal but i dont know if it will do any good, but yeah that was my day.

ICk, I can't believe they didn't offer you like safe driving courses or something instead of just suspending yer license.....My dad got a DUI awhile back and all he had to do was take some AA meetings and pay his fine, I'm not to familiar with the laws up there, but down here you can get some of your points back on your license for taking a safe driving course. SR-22 sucks....all I can say is try and talk with someone about what you could do to maybe get yer license back a little quicker. No i'm not talking about a bribe.

Wow. I seriously don't know the laws in that state and I spose I am SUPER lucky. I have had a total of 15 tickets in the last four years. I have contested each and every single one and only lost one. That was four years ago. So no points against me really. I would study the laws in your state. Thats what I did then fight em. The one ticket I did get...

Just bought my new car and was taking it to the mechanic. I had a temp of 102 degrees, burning up so was not thinking straight. Got pulled over for this.

- 60 in a 30

- Driving uninsured

- No registration

- Expired tags

- No id

- No seatbelt

They could have towed my car on the spot, but I had a fever so they didnt tow it, just gave me a 1500.00 ticket. I contested the ticket, even though it was all true. I was doing everything they said I was. However, I got insurance that day, got registration, tags, the whole get up. When I got to court, I proved that I had insurance, registration, id and new tags. The judge dropped them all. I requested to go to seat belt class, he said ok, got that dropped. Ended up having to pay a 75 dollar ticket and its off my record three years later.

Learning the laws in your state regarding traffic can help. Just have to do it and then apply it.

Craziness. Other than parking tickets, I've only ever gotten one ticket in my entire life, and that was for not having my headlights on at night, and the cop never even completed the paperwork or whatever, so it never went on record.

I don't mean to be a dick, but if you get pulled over you shouldn't be able to contest the ticket, unless it was some kind of mess up on the officier's end. If you break the law, and get caught, you deserve what you get. Also, people who drive when they are in no condition to drive really upset me.

That all being said, I understand your situation guys, and gal(s?). Laws can be bent sometimes, and 3 miles over getting a ticket is BS in my opinion, that cop just needed to wave something around and feel like a man. And to the origional poster - Bummer man. I feel for ya, glad everything worked out.

Here's my story. I was put on new medication, the bottle the pills came in had no warnings on them and came with no papers. It was a fairly high dosage, but I figured I could drive. Drove to school. Went to work in the library, got dizzy, sat down and almost passed right out. My boss told me I could have the day off and even offered to drive me home, I said "No thanks, I'll call for a ride." But as I walked to the cafeteria (the hang out for me and my friends), I felt great. No dizziness or anything. So I walked to my car, get into it. Drove home. Just as I'm coming out of a turn on a downhill my vision goes tunnel quickly and then straight to black. I come to and I had hit another car head on, in their lane, doing about 35-40mph. It was messed up. The first thing I remember was seeing the airbag half out, or at least I think that was it, that and the sound of the crunch the cars made. Scary sh*t. Girl that was driving the other car went to the hospital all boarded up and everything, I didn't have to go. I didn't even get a ticket, for some reason one of my friends knew the police Captain of the city and got it straightened away.

This is why I don't like people who don't drive in the correct condition. Because I did it and I hurt a girl pretty badly. And I still don't think I should have gotten off scott free. Now I'm terrified of driving, I hate driving to the store for a pack of smokes. And it's not even a mile away, that's why I usually walk. Heh. But that's enough from me.

Dude, I drove ALL summer last summer with a suspended lisence seeing as how I had to drive 30 mins to and from work every day. **** the police, if you don't live in a large city then just don't drive like a dick. And if you do (which I did) just avoid the pigs hiding spots. Seriously, **** the man, they can't hold you down for bull**** like that.

Are you serious? These rules don't exist to be a pain in your ***, they exist for your safety. Break them enough and you deserve to suffer the consquences.

The police are not out to get you, they are out to help you, and stupid **** ideas like '**** the police' are beyond ignorant, it's a slap in the face to everyone of the cops that goes out and risk his life everyday for you. Would you say '**** the troops in Iraq'? I ****ing doubt it, but still you trivialize the work that the police do. And the police are the ones who are directly aiding your safety. I don't want to trivialize what the troops are doing, but when they kill 10 insurgents, it's not quite as paramount to your safety as an american as the local cop who pulls over that drunk bastard speeding down your street.

Do the police make the laws? No. And I suspect in the future some time, when someone breaks into your house, or mugs you, or god forbid anything worse, you will not be singing your tune of '**** the police' it will be more along the lines of 'Help me officer! Help me please!'

Val, it sucks and despite all I've just said you do have my sympathy, and major props for pointing out your own faults in this situtation, but yeah man, it sucks.

Time for Dobson to shine :-D

There is a Federal law which states that NO goverment agency has the right to take away your source of income without due process. Which means your Secretary of State did not know that you were a delivery driver or he felt that your crimes warranted the punishment and possible homelessness that resulted from it. Now, seeing as how he gave you probation and you weren't able to keep the requirements set before you, it is very unlikely that an appeal would do you any good. From my experience being on the giving end of those tickets it is rough for us to do that to anyone. But the fact of the matter is you got what you deserved, you broke your probation for whatever reason, and now the **** has hit the fan. What I suggest to you, is get a better job than a pizza delivery guy, take the bus there, and learn how not to drive a car for a while. Believe me, the bus is a far better thing to use and it saves you a hell of alot of money.

Suggestions to get your liscense back:

As stated before, a state designed drivers education course would probably do the trick. If your state doesn't have a course as I mentioned I would suggest you do it the old fashioned way. Community service boyo. I would say 100 hrs would get you the restricted liscence back.

F***ing Government.

Early May, I got a speeding ticket. 81 in a 65. I resigned myself to paying the eighty dollars, and being done with the matter.

Two weeks later, I get a letter in the mail. It says I have til June 20th to take a Driver's Improvement Program, and pass the test. This program costs $60. So, while saying to myself, "F***!", I go and register at the local driving school. A conflict comes up and I have to cancel. So I decided to take the course online yesterday. I peruse the "Six hour course" for about fifteen minutes, decide it's a cakewalk, and schedule my test for today at 3:00. I go and take it...

And pass with 100%. Six hours my ***.

On top of that, the guy in front of me failed the test. The proctor? Marks the ones he got wrong, and tells him to go fix them. Comes back and passes it.

Sixty f***ing dollars, down the fat-assed politicians throats.

popo: Hi, welcome to the court house drive through window, how can I help you?

idiot: Ummm...drive through window?

pop: Yes, we have found that since the same thing happens over and over again and no one seems to learn the lesson, not to speed/break laws, we have impleminted a new drive through system so that we can take more money and get you on the street faster.

Idiot: On the street faster? More of my money, what did I do?

popo: How many tickets have you had?

idiot: Well I have only had 3!

popo: And how many accidents?

idiot: Well, I had one but it wasn't my fault, the guy came out of no where.

popo: Yes, well, that is where you are going because we are taking you in the express lane to jail, please park your car in the I'm ****** zone and kiss your life goodbye.

See, that is what they would do if all they wanted was your money. Believe me there are a million and a half reasons to arrest someone which gives the state a lot more money, despite what you think the cost of going to jail is, than simply paying tickets. So quit your bitching and stop breaking the law.

**** the police, I don't need some douchebag fat **** to tell me what the **** to do, you obviously have had no interactions with the cops outside of having them pick you up gas on the highway. Again, **** the police.

Live in the world for a year without any law enforcement, then come back and say that. I dare you.

More often than not, ( and I say more often than not because there are a few things I do disagree on regarding law enforcement) the laws out there, and law enforcement agencies 'telling you what to do', believe it or not, actually exist for the good of society.

You might not. But there are plenty more who do...and by any count, I'd wager you wouldn't be as well-protected as you might think in a society devoid of any law enforcement, but that's just my view anyway. Maybe you choose to handle situations yourself when they arise, instead of taking it to the police, but that's not the point. Crime would be at an absolutely unthinkable level because not only would criminals not be reprimanded for their wrongdoings, but you would have a lot more criminals thanks to the 'fear factor' being removed. There are a lot of people out there who don't commit crimes because they're afraid of the reprecussions from the police. You might say you don't need protection because when you're walking down the street and a big gang of people come to attack you, you can shoot/stab/brawl/talk your way out of the situation, but with law enforcement you can sure bet those situations would be cut down on tenfold without having to deal with them in the first place.

And that's just talking about small-scale crime. The large scale consequences of having no law system would be absolutely uncomprehendable, in my opinion. Can you honestly tell me you'd be better off now than you would be without any law system unless you were one of the criminals yourself? It maybe the large-scale consequences of the lack of a system of law that affect you rather than small-scale crime that you may well be able to protect yourself from.

Yes, I would be. In my opinion there is a difference between law, and order. As cliche as that may sound, if there were no laws, I don't think the world would nessecarily descend into a state of mass hysteria, it would equalize very quickly. Just my opinion of course.
