MeleeCrazy
Wasn't going to touch this subject....but recent oocurences have convinced me. Now while I do agree that laws are in place for a reason and they should be respected, I know why Elfdude has his opinion. Not all cops are choir boys driven to do all that is right and protect and serve and all that jazz. For instance, and this is just a minor but unexcusable example. This friday me and my roomate, and her three children were coming from Mcdonalds, we were safely in traffic listening to the radio and eating our fries when we come to a stop light. Well traffic ahead of us is at a stand still, and we need to make a left turn, so we slow our speed and signal to move into the turning lane. The car directly behind us is slowing and preparing to turn as well so we go to merge, after checking all the blind spots and everything and as soon as we start to merge into the turning lane(which begins at the very point we were at) a tow truck comes from behind not only us but the other car that was directly behind us, and smacks us in the front driver's side. Luckily Everyone was allright and the overall damage was only cosmetic. Pretty common occurence so far(for an accident any ways) three cars ahead of us was a deputy sheriff and another about six cars behind us. They quickly stopped traffic and got us out of the way. Now this is when my story gets bad, After we're safely out of traffic both Deputy sheriffs leave the scene!!!! We have to wait an hour and a half for a highway patrol officer to come from two towns away to work the accident. When he arrived we told him what had happened and how they had just left us even with three children involved and he was outraged. As were we. After everything he has to come unto the scene fresh not actually witnessing the accident as the other So called "officers" had, so by some magical logic it turns out to be our fault. That's why he says **** the police, because the majority I've met in my lifetime, and him too probably abuse the power they have been granted, and are to LAZY to get o the truth of what really has happened. At the end of the day as long as they have someone to blame, they don't care if it's the "right" person to blame.
Chayesh
Without law, what's to stop me from "exercising my free choice" to take your things? Or your money? Or even your life? After all, it's my free choice. Now, possibly you'd say the threat you pose to me in defending your things might deter me. But what if I go and get a group of people to take your things? Or your home or whatever? Can you stop me? Do you have enough firepower/people/mojo? Laws define acceptable behavior in the eyes of society, for the most part. Sure, some laws are complete crap, however, to scrap all law because one or two don't make sense is throwing the baby out with the bathwater. The same laws you don't feel are necessary are what protect your right to feel that way incidentally.

elfdude
Haha, im sorry dudes. I don't mean to sound like a hardass or anything but i've had people try to take my gear, i've been shot at cut beat up whatever. And you know what the cops did? Nothing. I stopped relying on the system a long time ago, now I guess my point is, I just hate the nanny state, not everything associated with laws. But I wont get too far into my personal politics. All I gotta say is try to catch me riddin dirtaaaaaaay. P.S. I hate rap, just seemed appropriate.
