KRins
Man...I hate starting at a blank Word file that is supposed to be teeming with cool descriptive language. It's one of those disheartening perpetual cycles, can't think of anything because I'm busy not thinking of anything... Anyone got a cure for what ails me? Deykari
I'd just not force yourself to do something if you just can't think about doing it. A description is just that; something to describe your character. Yea, there are some really cool ones with fancy language and whatnot, but so what. There are a lot more fancy ones that are naff. Describe your character, and start playing them IMO. EDIT: Suppose that wasn't as helpful as it could be. A lot of people like to take the time writing a really good description, and that's good, and I could probably learn a thing or two from it, but I just like to describe my character most times (I will spend time the odd few). Just think of your character. If I have a good idea of the char's personality as I'm rolling, that will help me often come up with their looks - just from their personality. Just open notepad/wordpad/word/whatever, and describe a basic mental image of what you see. "A dude is here. He is tall, skinny, and has pale skin". Then expand on it. Describe anything else you see. Go nuts and just think of some random thing to put in there and make some RP of it. I once just rolled a char and had his face full of contraptions, like barbed wire around the mouth etc., just out of sheer randomness. Don't worry about writing a good description, worry about describing your character; then you have yourself a good desc. My two pence. Dey

Anyone got a cure for what ails me?[/quote'] I always try to find a picture that looks somewhat similar of the character I am going to play. Actually, at times I create a character based on a picture I saw. Usually, I use the search engine on Elfwood or Google. Sometimes when I feel the need to vary my language or just to find a more apropriate word for the thing I am trying to describe, I use www.dictionary.com to find a synonym. What I generally find improves the quality of my descripions in general though, is coming back a day or two later. Just reread it, fix a little thing here, add a little word there, remove a sentance and replace it with another.

This can easily make your description twice as good if you're willing to throw stuff out.
Sirax
Best advice is to get the kettle for a nice brew, get a picture of what you wish your character to look like in your mind and then unleash your creative splurg. Thing is if you cant be bothered to write a desc or your in a rush to add it so if wont slow your charge to 50, the chances are your desc wont be too great, which is fine no ones asking for a master piece, the choice is yours try for a dragon some rp take your time and write a good desc, if you cant be bothered you dont have to be, a desc shouldnt be a big deal if you dont want it to be. And the imms are always around to have give some advice. I had a name block once, had a name thought it was good but it wasnt, seemed like hours for me must have seemed more for the imm. Me "what about kinason?" Imm "no sounds to much like another character Kimason" me arg what about? Belek? imm "no sounds too familiar, what about kesen? me "na, what about ....... serious we did that for about 15mins.
KRins
Eh...got it done. I thought it was my single best piece of description writing ever. Maybe I'm not so much of a bum as everyone thinks...
