Didn't have much interaction with anyone with him yet but for those I did I'm shelving him for now.  I've tried most of the classes to test them and I'll be honest the trend I'm feeling is I just prefer classes with major forms of escape (gate, druid gate) or the ability to hide from enemies if I'm loosing (hide, camo).  I'd like to try a thief and think they'd be interesting to mess around with but not with all the ninjas around.  I prefer those classes because learning equipment is plain and simply difficult.  Places too dangerous to go to solo, can't find groups to go so I'm left usually mapping new areas slowly as I explore outward or standing around.  Equipment is a must and it's difficult to learn it and gain it especially if it isn't there when you explore through.

I'm absolutely not done with FL but I do think I'll try to stick more with the RP classes like a Healer with less eq dependency, I feel I have more fun on them.  Last classes I have left to try are Paladin, Cleric, Invoker, Thief, Shaman, Necro and DK.  Been leaving the evil classes because I don't know where to get armor for them like black steel for goodies.  May do Invoker next since I can enchant weapons/armor to make them better and damage is based on spells not gear.

Side questions:  People's char posts when they quit have amazing saves so I'm curious doesn't a Shaman have a very uphill battle?  I thought about this class because I could try to place things then run and maybe let my spells do the fighting for me.  I know I would need gear because I have to fight but I figured they could get by with less.  Main worry is I'd take too much damage and have to run too much and spells would go away on them.

Shamans have a way of greatly decreasing people's saves. Of course, you will have hard time against the most decked of characters, especially if they are a magic resistant race. Either way, with a shaman, noone is impossible. Except an illusion psi. That's pretty impossible.

The issue with playing an evil and also trying to explore and learn the game is that you will be relentlessly hunted down not only by goods but also other evils. If you play a neutral at least you take most goods and neutrals out of that equation. Giving you less folks to worry about and more options to go on equipment runs to learn. Just my opinion.

Edit: I personally would try a neutral Ogre Ranger or some type of neutral Ranger. Camouflage to hide and pets to tank/add to damage.

I have a hard time with decked characters anyways so that's fine, may give it a shot soon.

Shaman are notorious hard to gather equipment with. They are mostly a PK class.
From Paladin, Cleric, Invoker, Thief, Shaman, Necro and DK I would recomend a Necromancer.
They have access to locate and identify and powerful pets that you can get even naked. Roll a Half-elf, so that you don't have a vulnerability and you can wield a staff (Illithiad parry sucks). Don't chose the Necromancer Path of soul, because the pets suck.

Then just grab a map. And there are lots of maps around. And go to every area killing everything and identifying everything. Take not of every item properties plus the location and paste it all in a huge notepad. Don't forget to have the pets rescue so that you don't take damage.

If you haven't played cleric yet I recommend one.  A good aligned cleric tends to be able to pick their battles, and have great defensive and offensive capabilities.

Go with say combat religion.

Paladins are also great for exploration and being more of a tank.  They have a ton of quality of life abilities.

I was told a neutral ogre beaatmaster ranger in merchant is a good choice.  I've always been worried to go that route since I have nothing to sell worth buying and would be looking for myself already.  Wish merchants could craft weapons and armor to sell from materials like bards do.

Either feral or ogre ranger in merchant.

Invokers also do well if you decide you want to try merchants out but prefer casters, as they can kill some in-demand mobs very easily, can be neutrally aligned, and can easily defend themselves from anyone that tries to take a swipe at an "easy kill".

I figured an Invoker would have a hard time with only one defense honestly.  Tried a Beastmaster ranger before and I have to say I didn't like it for PK but loved it for PVE due to the amount of attacks I was throwing out per round with three pets.  Tracker I haven't tried yet but it seems more suited for PK.  I think I'll try the ranger and may make my first Invoker on the side when I get bored to try one out.  Invokers seem like an odd class based on the PK logs, I read some where they simply use lightning spammed and win easily with firestorm or ice storm and in others they deal crap damage with the same spells and loose badly.
