Its his weapon's damage just renamed to punches by the code. So, in this case, magic.

He out punched his weapon.  

Also landed them 6 of 8 rounds if counted right.

It functions exactly like pugil, except for with a sword or spear, and the damage is renamed punch.

Ahhey.  I see.  I had fought one a few days ago and wondered what that was.  

Does it utilize hand to hand skill?

Personally, I think it should do punching(mundane) damage. Not the weapon's damage.

The way I see it, if you punch someone holding the shaft of a spear, then you're not attacking with the spear, but with your knuckles.

But renaming it to palm-strike or some of the monks attacks might be a good atmospheric alteration. "Punch" is just mhee....

What's the incentive to dual wield now as a ninja? I don't think I've seen any of them dual wield since this change came out.

Jutsu 'pugiling' is a lesser form of staff pugil. Because spears and swords are considerably more offensive, we've reduced the attacks by 1-2 (third+fourth attack for pugil). 

There's still incentive to dual wield, however.

only incentive I can think of is attachments, weapon procs or dual forms of damage.
