Journal Entries

Out of curiosity how often do most of you write in your journal?  I've never done it and will be starting soon, mostly it'll be kept like a log of his adventures (diary).  I just wondered if you all do it only with something big happens or even just to write about their feelings while you sit and wait on a respawn or someone to go come to your group.

I wrote in journals sparingly on one character while on another, I was detailing a change in progress almost every time I logged in.  Journals are a tool in keeping the Imms in touch with your RP, however minor, without them having to be there physically.  Go with what the character will do.  My current character isn't writing journals, although it might be fun to come up with an interesting story about an ingrown toenail.  A future character I've got planned will be writing them often from day one.  Not as often as my class change, but often enough.

Journals should be about character development. Why is your character the way he is now. What happened to them in the past that formed their character? Do current events influence their personality? Is there a shift in their development, why?

If we see, I woke up, brushed my teeth, then went to the arena and killed 2 plasm beast, you're not likely to get any rp points for it (unless it is done in a very funny way). We will usually comment to put in more content.

Look at journals in the graveyard to get a few good examples of what they are about.

There are a few ways you can actually do a journal. The two main ways are:

1. A dear diary format. Talk about something that happened and how it made you feel, etc.

2. Write a short story. There are a lot of things that can happen to a character "behind the scenes".. Journals are a GREAT tool to advance a character's RP.

Pro-tip: Don't forget you can write on a piece of paper in game and leave it to be found by other people. I feel like this is a massively under-utilized tool, regrettably by myself as well. Leaving a "hint" about a secret aspect of your character can often lead to very interesting interactions.

A small crumpled piece of paper is here.

You read the paper:

"F0xx is lame."

The handwriting is eerily familiar to Trick's.

Let the drama unfold... dun dun dunn....

I actually didn't know that about the paper, always wondered what it was for!  Thanks for the advice everyone I wanted to start using journal but didn't want to annoy the IMMs by doing it too much with things that weren't supposed to be in it.-

Send me some journals fools. I'll let you know swiftly what you need to improve and how to develop.

You'll have way better in game experience with a nice fleshed out back story.

Don't forget journals can be from your past! You can write about that time you ate an apple as a kid and there was a worm in it.. So now you hate sliths cause they are just bigger worms.

He isn't bullshitting, he gives me RP pointers all the time. Seems to be very active, cares about us as a playerbase and cares about the quality of the game. Helping me step up my game for sure.
