That's an interesting idea, but one that I am not sure you really want. Imagine the staff does implement some mechanic like the one you are suggesting. If this is done, then the base damage of the spells will need to be lowered, by quite a bit. Also, mages will now have to use offensive items, which will dramatically lower their defensive stats i.e. your HP will no longer be 1200+, your AC will no longer be 700+. If this happens, mages will be walking around with defensive stats not much higher than melees, which in return will increase the damage output of said melees even more. Kyzarius
Why would you lower base damage of spells? You said that as if it is some required response to giving them better defenses. Mind you when I say defenses I mean adjust AC scaling, or give a way to improve THAC0, maybe even a way to improve parry/shield block while NOT blind. If you nerf caster output while giving them defenses to stay in battle you are just preserving the power creep advantage melees get because both their output and defenses scale. While only casters offense scales with the best gear. I should of worded that line better. "casters need a scaling stat that can defend against higher hit/dam". That is where we are missing a piece in the scaling of the mud. The more we let hit/dam creep up, the more apparent it becomes that casters have no effective scaling to counter it defensively. That is the mismatch.
English lad
Would be a band-aid fix - and i'd prefer to see a long term solution - but how would we feel about some high -ac, high HP equip with negative Hit / Dam scores. Could counter it by looking at some of the high Hit / Dam equip and removing the -Svs. People should have to choose between high dam and high survivability. tassinvegeta
I'd also would like to point out that the survivability of mages is much greater compared to melees. Also when it comes to drawn out battles and chasing ability this also favors the mages. Even with that said I feel that there are some consumables that need to go. When this happens mages will get their some of there edge back and the all powerful decked warriors will be more vulnerable to mistakes like they used to be. Also power scaling for mages can be upped by offering equipment or more innate racial abilities that boost them. I.E. Fire - bonus fire dmg). Elemental Gauntlets of Eternal Flame - Offers + damage boost to fire based spells. Floating Orb of Debris - Augments + damage of steel wall and bmg shards Half Drow - being known for there charisma they are more adept at <insert spells here>
f0xx
I thought you meant a scaling offensive stat? So you want a scaling defensive stat that helps protect against how often and how hard you get hit? Something like Armour Class (AC)?
Lloth
I do not foresee us adding an additional scaled defense.

It's really simple, actually. Everything. I want this to be the central thread for coming together as a community and just... talking. It is also where I am reviving something Volgathras used to do back when we had a chat bar. Every now and again, I will open the floor to all of you to ask a question. I will answer that question in a timely fashion (I am very active and log in at least 5-6 times per day). If I don't have the answer, I will get it. If I can't discuss the answer for any reason, I will let you know why. I like transparency, however we can't discuss everything we discuss in the immortal forums for a multitude of reasons that I am sure would bore you all to talk about. Disclaimer: Very intoxicated right now. Please forgive a bit of feel-good rambling. Big fan of the idea. The most important thing, I think, for people to remember is to talk TO each other rather than AT each other. We should be trying to exchange ideas and perspectives so that we can consider those not our own, not necessarily to adopt them but to at least try to understand them. Having a place for doing so encourages it on a subconscious level in the same way that one is less likely to make a mess in a clean place than they are in an already dirty one. Edit: To be frank, I already think that it is having that effect to some degree - the wimpy conversation here has been more cordial and substantive than I've seen it other places, so kudos to @f0xx and @Kyzarius for keeping things on point and civil. My question is simply a bit of random curiosity: how do you decide on demon names? Do you have a system, or do you just go with what seems appropriate for the character? I was curious as to how you came up with Vaelrasa, for instance; few of my demons have followed the usual -ant suffix, but I've never actually asked the IMM involved as to how they came up with the name they gave me. Lloth
Lloth does not use "ant", as that denotes a chaos demon. The sole exception is Terrokant, who she made using a chaos demon, but infecting him with her essence, and charged him with bringing terror and despair to the Prince's followers. Vaelrasa is a Drow name (in my own made-up version of their language) that means "Chosen twin(s)". I make each name personal to the relationship between Lloth and the demon. Pali
Quite appropriate. I named the character Dimidius originally based on the Latin word for divided, so it seems both names the character had were descriptive in nature.

Lloth
I love it when I RP something minor but it gets picked up on and ran with. I gave Belderon a little thing on an RP involving Zoichan, and Winston stole it from him and used it for his daughter and Belderon got several months of RP out of a tiny detail. I hate when a mortal comes up to me, in character, and mouths off as if they are going to kill me. To me, that just shows a bit of OOC knowledge that I am not going to outright slay them, because while Lloth certainly has the power, staff slaying players without then breaking rules or a buildup in RP is a bad road to go down. Ashuga does the whole "resisting an immortal" flawlessly. Kudos to them. When watching others RP I love to see them trying to immerse themselves in the world. With how much work that gets put into each aspect of the game, I am glad to see players utilize the environment in all its wonder. I hate watching ego battles. It is just boring. muddmann
In regards to wimpy, I don't see how everyone seems to think it's 100%. I have had it fail more times than it has succeeded but perhaps I am doing something wrong. And on the same hand it has been a defining factor on why I have lost a few matches. Don't get me wrong, though I have played nearly 14 years of and on I am still a newbie and I could very well be doing something wrong. I am a caster player and I have been forever, though I suck at it I still love them.. could someone explain how wimpy is 100%?
f0xx
Can you show me a log where it has failed you "many times" and even such where you've lost because of it? Because I can show you, quite a few logs of your characters, against my characters, where it has saved you many times
