Casters creamed

Ok I don't know if I am doing something wrong but everyone of my mages are being absolutely owned.

I'm sitting at 500 ac with my invoker and try to dispel twice and my then I am crippled and need to run.

If I don't dispel and try to bring hellstreams icestorms and lightning it's doing nothing to the veteran players.

Don't get me wrong the newbs are getting eaten but I want to fight the best.

I don't want to run around the planet using hit and run tactics.  Even when I'm in water......NO DIRT KICK.  Owned.

Am I missing something?  Is it time to put away my mages?

I've had a lot of interaction with your characters and I think you are looking for the problem at the wrong place. I hope you do not take this personally, but I will just mention some of the mistakes you make:

1) Your tactics are really bad. You heal in combat, while your sanctuary is down (and that's just one example of the wide array of mistakes you make).

2) You are extremely slow. In both chasing and running away.

3) You rely way too much on recall.

4) Your itemisation is bad, and the items you wear are low tier.

That being said, if you feel like you will do better with a melee, then by all means, roll one. I honestly doubt you will do much better with it though. If I have to compare your skill level, I would currently place on the same ladder as Goruk, with the difference that Goruk is trying to improve really hard.

Once again, I hope you take this as constructive criticism and attempt to improve on the points I mentioned. If you feel you need help with anything, feel free to PM whoever you think is a good PKer, I doubt anyone would refuse to provide guidance.

If you want help with mages though, I would strongly recommend contacting @Kyzarius, @Mmm Beer, @crackwilly21, just to mention a few.

Foxx is not a very diplomatic person, even when he tries to. Obvious from the above ;) I think he does mean well though here.

I recommend to submit pk logs including a score and eq shot if possible. People will comment in and give you a ton of tips on what to do better next time.

Sometimes this is not even needed, if you take the time to look through a pk log yourself a day or two later, when the hot emotions are gone.

I usually know when I've made a mistake immediately (most of the time anyway) but sometimes I miss something and get one of these aaaahhhh moments when looking through the log of the fight (good example is when Celerity creamed me on her Tribunal bc I had forgotten to remove my sanc staff and thus was not two handed blocking at all, lol)

Edit: I also think you should try to play those classes that stomp you. You'll learn a lot of how to fight the class that way.

I've played for 3 weeks st8.  Haven't seen any of them.  How do you talk to invisible people.  Last time a saw Azarek. He was dead.

As per foxxs post I can take the critism.   I'm slow well sorry I'm learning.  I can't type where and know exactly where you are.  Sorry your so high and mighty.

My tactics.   I'm blind. Usually crippled  Can't see where I'm going.  Then dead.

To assume everyone has invested countless hours in a game because you have is ridiculous.  When I play....I am alone.  Fighting countless foes.

How can I explore?

Don't join a cabal or play a qrace, and exploring becomes very easy because nobody can make you fight.  That said, invokers simply are not very good at PvE - you can't really run gauntlets on your own, even though a lot of the bosses are no trouble due to using magic attacks.  If you want a mage that can explore well, I'd say make a neutral or good bmg.  Otherwise, mages simply aren't that great at exploring on their own.

All the more reason for the EQ list on the wiki to be updated and comprehensive, IMO.

I agree 100%. Do we have any update on this? When is the wiki going to be updated? This year? Next year? Never? I'm very close to stop playing this game because I don't have access to the proper tools to make the appropriate builds. This game is 1000% EQ dependant. If you don't have this information than your pretty much a sitting duck. You need roughly 500+ AC just to stay in combat. If you have anything less than 500AC, you will get 2-4 rounded with sanctuary against a high HIT/DAM melee (which pretty much everyone is a melee). I've been playing literally non-stop for 4 months. Exploring, searching and taking notes and I still don't have the proper information for specific builds.

Ahh Anyone can update the wiki? Have at it.

@crackala - Anume's suggestion to post PK logs is the best one.  Then we can see what you're doing or not doing, what eq you're using, carrying, etc.  I highly recommend exploring the Flying Citadel (past the Prince) for a critical mage item IMO.

Large and wide you WILL have to hit and run with an invoker on heavily decked melees and you should want to.

With classes that dish out heavy melee there is one very linear tactic that should net you a win if you pull it off:

have detect magic up, look at your opponent, dispel magic, firestorm (for fireblind), chase with afflicitve of your choice

While you're waiting for lag to wear off from firestorm, take a second to read your opponent's aff list.  This is why you will have to hit and run because it will take a bit of luck to pull off but good news is you can cast two dispel magics and a firestorm, with lag worn off in under 3 rounds assuming your staff is charged.  Also, you don't necessarily need to remove sanctuary from dispel.  Even if you see "OK" I would try for fireblind.  If it works, continue hitting them, if not, flee and repeat.  This is how I beat some of the heaviest hitting melees during my play time with Othrynus...albeit the avatar abilities certainly helped :)

Another devious tactic - reciting those scrolls from Val Miran (Scroll of immortality i think?) that cast armor/shield/stone-skin on your opponents to take advantage of lightning storm.  That -80 AC will often put them over the limit to get lightning arcs.  It won't work if your opponent is opposite aligned but if you're neutral, have at it!  My last invoker was an avatar so I fought the occasional neutral Watcher or Syndi.  This was a tactic I used a few times - if nothing else it will force them to remove other pieces of armor to get back under the threshold.

I see a fix coming to only allow you to buff people with scrolls if they are following you..

Probably should be. I got no problems with offensive scrolls but reciting scrolls that should "help" someone your fighting.....not cool and probably not how it was intended to work. imo

@crackala As most everyone said, log, log log. Your first command after logging in should be to start logging. And when you die, it's get your equipment, quit and review your full colour buffer of the fight. Then if you can't figure what went wrong is to post a log and ask for help.

If someone fixes this for scrolls, please make a check for PK range. It's incredible awkward that we can't help the odd newbie by casting buffs on them.
