Zavero
Although I have played muds on and off for near 20 years, I have not learned the game much because I have always relied on PK to get equipment. I learned some areas years ago but honestly never took the time to really learn the game overall. I also forgot most of what I knew after several years of absence. I'm finding these days I cannot rely on the old ways of piecing together armor by PK. So I'd like to create a character solely to learn areas, explore, and become more familiar overall with high end content. What would you suggest and why? Manual Labour
halfling healer mysterum can solo almost everything in the game any archer ranger gladiator is also very powerful for soloing stuff
mya
On the healer chose chance for the divine intervention. I don't think you can chose discord as good. Elven Battlemage for curatives and easy going. I think Ogre ranger archer for sleep arrows, and ogre for flee dirt regen. I have heard some people say Vampire, but I have no experience. Half-drow Necromancer that isn't the soul path. And get the Mummy for defense and flesh golem mastery for a illithiad shock. I could solo all the way to the baron pretty darn faster than with a healer. And it's a low xp combo that can be PK combo.

They can be amazing for gearing, but if you don't already know what you're doing... Then you'll have a TERRIBLE time learning. 10 hours ago, sarcon said: Battlemage, Druid, Ogre Ranger, Cleric, Healer. Solid - Evil or good clerics can be fine here. Druids can solo any mob in the game. bmage - learning curve, its a lot to handle all at once. Warrior - clever item/weapon selection and you can do most areas Ranger - Any ranger (except maybe gnome) can solo most of FL - with the right amount of patience. 3 hours ago, Fool_Hardy said: Any healer. I'd be bored. But exploration is easy.
Tempirion
Any giant size warrior class with a staff and polearm. You can solo the factions in winter and most everything short of the big stuff like gear and desolation. Warrior is face roll easy to play as you just dirt and bash basically so less margin for error. Get the rp identify spell and your basically a lvl 50 adventurer. Zavero
I considered Druid but the whole yearning thing seems very counter productive if I'm trying to solo areas. It seems like a lot of high end areas aren't forest areas. Am I wrong? Is ogre conisdered a giant race as far as your post is concerned, @Tempirion? They can now plant some trees in an area to get a foresty room to stop the yearning. I don't know the duration of the spell or anything as I have never played a druid, can't get into the RP angle of druids....at least what I consider their angle to be because I've logged far to many acres of land to want to hug a tree now. Zavero
Why healer? I didn't think they could do damage output?

And ultimate survivability maybe....not sure, been lots of years since I played a healer.
Manual Labour
retribution does work, and if you go savant you can keep all those buffs up indefinitely and heal for a fraction of the mana cost.
Zavero
Ah. I've never played a healer. In fact since I've played muds I think I've had two level 50 lightwalkers. I just had my second one deleted. Thanks for the info everyone.
Fool_Hardy
Healers have everything they need all the time. If an area seems too hard summon a low level nonmobile, this allows you (usually) to rest in a savant area and gate back anytime. For exploration I can not recommend a better class. As for which religion, ahh, they are all unique.
Magick
I'd say healer or cleric, with a lean toward healer. Dwarves/Halflings for the magic resist, Storms for physical resist. They both have calm and healing which is great. If you were to go this way, my opinion would be Mystic or Guile (if I accurately remember Guile's DI) as the religion to choose. Both those religions have their benefits: one for survivability, the other to speed your way through the chaff. Get the sea-elf ring, abbot's staff and the chainmail greaves (healer) and you've got 3 mana-free curatives. While healers don't have quite the damage output most other classes have, they have staying power. Divine Retribution can be reapplied in combat, too. So that's a plus. Can't say much about druids as I've not played one, but based on what I know of them, should be a solid choice. As FatMike stated, they now have a counter to yearning in far off non-forest places. Concerning Tempirion's post yes, ogres are giant sized.
Celerity
I strongly recommend a cleric over a healer. They require you to actually walk to places which is very important. Gating is a practice that hurts your chasing/running/exploration in the long run. Furthermore, clerics can actually transition from an exploration character to regular PK. Clerics are much, much more powerful in PK than healers and much less restricted. Healers are pretty much a trap to play. I think they are very bad for learning the game. Healers are like riding in taxis to learn how to drive.
Manual Labour
Yah but Celerity he wants to explore areas and learn equipment. Healers are great for this. He didnt say anything about learning to PK. Just cuz you have gate it doesnt mean you have to use it either, nothing stops a healer from walking around.
