sarcon
Well, where do I begin, actually let's just keep it simple. NUMBER ONE RULE WHEN FIGHTING A NINJA. Always have + 8 OR + 10 DEX extra in the tank. If you don't have access to haste (which as a battlemage you should be hasted against ninja's), go get your hands on some spider slippers and/or Spider rope gloves or whatever the hell they are called. You only need to wear them for the fight, then go back to whatever else you prefer after. Considering you are a Demon which isn't agile by any means, this is extra important for you. First thing should have been age, then flee, then rust, then flee, then rust, then flee.. stick and move making sure you are the one that lands the first spell and don't eat any murder round. Once he has been aged, and a few rust lands, then you are at even keel. Now I know this is easy to say now and not during heated combat, however just keep this in mind for future fights. Once he has been debuffed and you've negated his Caltrap and Ikuzaki then let your regular battle tactics kick in and make sure you ALWAYS flee when at 550-600 HP IF your not clearly winning the battle and reset/heal, ninja's can eat up 100-250 HP per round in some cases. Your Temporal Storms will be doing some work, though he can heal almost three hundred HP per tick with cure lights so keep this in mind. Link to comment

Anonymous
To be brutally honest I didnt realize how much ikuzaki hurt me. The fight looked good at the start. I thought I could hang in a few rounds. Before I knew it the tables has turned drastically and this is just due to me not knowing what that did. Had I known I would have just fled once the caltraps landed and the ikuzaki. As per your wear spider slipers lalalala.....if I do that Sarcon then those devastes he is hitting me with are going to be much more as I need Ac protection. Going into that fight my ac was -700 Didnt make a difference. My inexperience killed me and Im okay with that because I learned something. Suldaim Anonymous poster hash: e0efa...f11 Link to comment

When you flee go a couple rooms and eat two hearts, negates the throw. Get back in there.. rinse and repeat. This would have been completely different if he KNEW how bad ninjas can mash up his dex. Lesson learned for the next time. HE went for two ages too, that is four rounds of lag right there. Throw in some autoblind and that will ruin your day. Link to comment

You have haste so you won't need to wear both of them, just one unless your wearing one of the many cloaks that gives positive dex. Link to comment
Pali
I don't think it was going better at the start - he came into the fight at small wounds and bruises, and you did a tiny bit of damage that put him at a few wounds, which is where he stayed the entire fight. He pretty consistently knocked you down about 60 hp a round on average with his melee output, even near the end - ikuzachi casts and murder/flee autothrow increased that, but it wasn't the dex loss building up that killed you I think, simply sustained wearing down combined with a timely autoblind. Your melee attacks hit him 3 times in 10 rounds, which means that using blades and dancing blade for your damage output against him is futile if he's not blind - try harder for the blind, as without blind fighting, his defenses will suffer greatly. I have fought him probably four times before and in each case I have never been able blind him with multiple chances. So this battle I tried a different strategy that did not pay off. In general I have found that I can not hit Ferals at all and they can just own me. This is not my whining or complaining this is me pointing out what I have found in all my past battles. In general As my battlemage. I have found that I have to work extremely hard in order to have my blades hit or my dancing blades hit. They are usually dodged and parried or blocked. Which seems weird to me because I thought these skills were dependent on knowing the weapons wielded. Yet how does anyone but a battlemages know what blades are. All in all though there are just some battles I have to accept I wont win. You cant win them all. Unless the other player does something really foolish. A player like Kotrag does not make mistakes like this. Maybe its just me doing something wrong. I will figure it out and I will keep at it. Suldaim. Anonymous poster hash: e0efa...f11 Link to comment

Mmm Coffee
Wow - ikuzachi is -6 Dex for 6 Hours!?! For a one-round lag spell that also does pretty decent damage, that seems way too buff. -2 Dex for 1-2 hours maybe, but -6 for 6...just wow. Link to comment
f0xx
I think it's a bit too strong as well. -6 dex alone is too strong. Couple that with the caltraps which are -5 dex... that's a total of -11. And for such a long time too. I would also like to point out that at this point, even if Suldaim was not blind, he most likely wouldn't have been able to take out the pill out of his sack, due to the lowered dex. Link to comment

Though your strength comes with pets and mals......if you catch me I would be in big trouble. As for the Dex. That was the first time I was ikuuuuuuuuuuddd YUUUUUKKK. So I didnt know it did that. I would have fled and ran for my life. Probably would have been caught unless I got to eat the pill.....cause Kotrag is a beast chaser. Implementor Anume Posted November 25, 2016 Implementor Report Share Posted November 25, 2016 iku is dex -1 but it stacks to a max of 6. Don't let them hit you 6 times. Link to comment
Magick
There's only 3 castings in that log, though. That would make it -2 per landing. Link to comment

He indeed only cast it three times. As well I didnt know how devastating Iku was or I wouldnt have let him just keep casting it. Considering the damage it was doing to me. Plus the dex. Wow. Ulmusdorn
I haven't really read anyone elses advice in depth. But there are my thoughts: As a bmage I think you need to pick 1 of two paths. Path 1 = as much damage as you can as quickly as you can. Path 2 = Attrition. What you've done is you've picked Path 2 without actually doing any attrition. If you are going to cast non damage skills like; age, blind ect. For the first 7 rounds you did no additional damage?! Now don't get me wrong, thats fine but you need to flee and sleep. Catch ticks. Dance around. Then that playstyle works. Instead you soaked up damage and sat there till you died basically. My real suggestion is try committing to either path. Either you're sharpmetalling and meteoring and killing the person. Or you're dancing. One or the other or you'll die. Link to comment

They are usually dodged and parried or blocked. Which seems weird to me because I thought these skills were dependent on knowing the weapons wielded. Yet how does anyone but a battlemages know what blades are. Yeah, I had that problem with Vaelrasa as well - and the only way I know of to make them more effective is to get +spelllvl gear. @sarcon Fair point, I forgot he was slowed at the start. That said, I'm not sure why -dex should hinder him so much - both his attacks and defenses are spells, for the most part (unless bmg attacks and defenses are still str/dex based, which makes no sense since they're magical effects rather than physical skills). That would be hindered by low dex if I'm not mistaken. I remember once upon a time I did some testing with some mobs to determine how much dex played a role in my defenses and my jaw dropped. The difference is quite staggering. However, that was quite some time ago, not sure if they changed how DEX works in recent years. Link to comment

So i really like this advice, but sometimes this is harder then it seems. Problem 1 most of my heavy hitter spells are 2 rounds of lag. so my plan for this fight was to land a few spells then do tge heal dance. Yet the tide turned very quickly. I wasnt expecting this. My inexperience with how bad iku could kill me got me killed. Problem 2 He is a feral. I can never go all out offensive . The minute i start getting offensive. he furies. not cool. Problem 3. he was a better player and thats the truth. ???? Anonymous poster hash: e0efa...f11 Link to comment
Kyzarius
I'm in the camp that would suggest, based on your approach, that you not stay in combat so long. Temporal storm hits automatically, drop an age then flee. He's losing mana and hp every tic, you are not. Link to comment

Yes, but this is one out of 4 defenses (blades, blur and terrashield being the others, with blades being less reliable than the others). It being hindered a bit doesn't explain the loss well, I think - as Ulms said, him focusing on mals but not using attrition tactics, as well as sticking around too long? That does explain it pretty well. Link to comment
Anonymous
Awesome advice guys. Thanks. I got my butt whipped. I am learning everyday. I am trying hard and hope I am getting better. This death is just a reminder that I cant stay in combat vs Ferals. Just get outdamaged. I need to put this into practice though I know from a previous battle with Kotrag that when I tried that approach he was just on me. Which makes this tactic difficult then I get attacked trying to catch a tick and I got flee and get nailed with a throw. Suldaim. Anonymous poster hash: e0efa...f11 Link to comment
Pali
I too found ferals to be incredibly tough for a bmg, given their enhanced melee defenses combined with fury. Only way I did anything close to well is by fighting them outside around noon and going for sear blinds very early in the fight. Link to comment
