RP vs PK

I know Roleplay is enforced which I personally find cool.  Yet I feel like people who play this game for PK are not looked upon in the same light.  Why is it that if someone doesn't RP they all get posts like I've seen in the polls.

Lacking Rp........

What is the problem if people play this game for different reasons?  Is it that big of a deal?

I am hoping to get answers as I am working on writing a review, and want to hear from the Pbase.  It is my hope that no one is shy about how they really feel so I may give an accurate representation of the players that play this game.

Im also curious as to what is lacking in the Savants Rp?

I have played muds on and off for about 20 years. The characters that have always stood out to me were not just players who role play or player kill, but rather the characters that combined both effectively.

I have also found that a balance of both is more fun in the end. I personally don't blame people that wish to player kill and don't want to take time roleplaying. However, as you stated, roleplay is enforced and overall makes for a more rich environment in my opinion.

Role play is what keeps me coming back here more than anything else.  I love the PK system, don't get me wrong, and I enjoy PKing, but I can get good, strategic skill-based competition in a wide plethora of games.  It is only here that I can role play within a realized world that demands it from everyone, only here that I can get hours of enjoyment just chatting with someone in character, only here that I have a sense that I can change the game by talking rather than fighting.  I take great pride in characters of mine that did well in PK, but I don't look back on them nostalgically the way I do those that I felt I excelled at RP.

I do not expect everyone to approach the game this way.  There is nothing wrong with caring more about the PK than the RP, so long as you maintain the required minimum of staying in character.  I will be a bit disappointed if someone attacks me and later, when I try to strike up a conversation about why, their response is a boilerplate "demons killed my family, so I kill demons", "my god says you're evil, so I kill you" (Vaelrasa got variants of this from four different chars, and I think I fought all of eight in total).  I'm not as against this as some - it's been derided in the past as Counterstrike-RP, or RP that exists to say "and that's why I kill people," and while I think there is some truth to this criticism, I don't think it brings the game down but rather maintains it at a basic level and gives a chance for people who care more about RP to shine.  So long as that is the baseline, I think we're doing okay as far as RP is concerned, and there are enough of us who care to take the extra steps that a better average is maintained.

I would have to agree with @Pali  the RP is what really keeps me sticking around. It didn't at first, but ever since RP points and the overall quality of the players and Imm's, that changed quickly. Though, I do find that sometimes people role characters that are designed to have little to no dialogue with others and that too should be respected. I have noticed that over the years especially in syndicate, some choose to stick with the assassin mentality and limit the conversations, as you ARE A TARGET!

So I get that approach all the same. However, you will then run into someone like Lisko who just has stellar RP 24/7. Always uber fun to interact with her that's for sure.

PK is loads of fun but that will eventually get dry in time. I've personally been trying to find a fun way to RP while Pk'ing as Belderon did, literally had me cracking up 90% of the time when we fought. More recently I've experienced a lot of IMM RP which get's me really jacked up, makes me want to up my RP game that's for sure.

Now with regards to Izzy's comments about Savant's lacking in RP, I'm not sure what you mean. Are you talking about as a whole? Like you don't see them RP?
