I think this, more than anything, I'd like to see. Post count is fine to some degree, but that little bit of confirmation when you guys are the last to post on a thread I think would help immensely. Even if it's a single word acknowledgement for a placebo effect. Of course it doesn't need to be a last word type of thing for every post/thread, but the meat and potatoes part would be welcome. Really though, this is minor, IMO, and you guys do have a lot on your plate as it is with both the game and your real lives.
Manual Labour
I think for this game to be more fun it needs more players. No amount of changes will really matter to such a small pbase. For the direction of this MUD to improve I think the mast majority of effort should be put towards acquiring and maintaining players.
Pali
The problem is that playerbase size is the aspect of the game that the staff has the least real control over.

Kind of. It isn't like it is an independent, unrelated random variable. Of course it is something the staff is in control of and responsible for. How much is really a question of emphasis, not capability. Attracting players is difficult, but certainly not impossible, even for text-based niche games. I was just looking at a new RP MUX that just hit beta and has ~100 online when I glanced at it yesterday, without a prior player source. The potential is there, but it requires major work, and perhaps much more importantly, the major rethinking of old 'truths'. Whatever we have been doing for the last 10 years has been very good at maintenance, but absolutely abysmal at recruitment.
