ThatGuy
Unfortunately I can't log the rest of the fight due to me running away after almost getting my butt handed completely to me in Maelbrim and outside the walls, but any advice would be welcomed. ThatGuy
I was in the process of running like hades I managed to get to the river and thats where the rest of the fight took place, until my sanc fell I feel like I was doing decent. No flight though which was a bad thing. Link to comment
Izzy
There are ways for you to fly. You need to use them. It would be nice to see the whole log. Ice Weapons needed for sure. Baron also has Ice arrows for shooting him. If you are really losing to start, don't be afraid to kick dirt and flee. Catching a full round of dirt kick will let you run and TRY to prepare. sarcon
Giant with no flight = death 9/9.98888 times. Also, what was your weapon selection? Was that the staff from Lord Commander you were using? Link to comment
Celerity
All things fair, he is going to beat you. His weapon proficiency is higher, so he'll hit more often and harder in addition to having a stronger weapon and fire damage bonus. So I would NOT use a staff against him. I don't know which mastery you are, but you are going to have a lot more luck with exotics to get around his prof and defenses. A longer fight may find you poisoned which is a death sentence if his chasing is good. His race and cabal are definitely stacked against you here. Even then, he is going to probably out defend and out damage you. If you are not caballed, you don't have a lot of options except fighting on water. If you can play it right, you might be able to catch him with crumbling weapons and get a win that way. You can exploit his vuln with arrows and less easily with melee. If you can poison him you can turn around the fight. Very worst case is that you skirmish until he makes a critical error (such as no weapon). It is a slow battle, so you have plenty of time to gauge the situation. Letting him trip you may not be a bad thing, as it lags both of you, and he isn't using spells/bash that do damage. It drops his DPS a lot. You aren't either though. No matter how you do it, from your position, you are fighting as the underdog. You'll need cabal skills to balance it out. Link to comment
ThatGuy
My mastery is in shield, and I was using the rod of light from the Commander's keep as my weapon. So far, its been one of the only weapons I can keep my hand on without the others getting smashed by zerkers. Link to comment
Celerity
That is a good thing. Shield warriors have been rebalanced so many times I can't give you exact advice but it gives you a lot of options. You can certainly nullify his bash, fired weapons and probably nearly all of his melee damage, so you can bring his output way down. Sounds like your goal right now is to get a primary weapon suited to the fight at hand. A shield warrior has a very good chance to outmelee any other warrior. Don't be afraid to use cheap non-rare shields if you don't have a good one. Him wasting rounds shield disarming you will do the same thing as letting him trip you, except you aren't lagged. Shield of gear is pretty ideal as you can 'use' it for unblockable damage and it is nodrop. Better if you can get it spiked in some way for shield bashing. Link to comment
ThatGuy
So, what I really need is an exotic weapon that can't be disarmed to use against him to offset his mastery in staff, and some more throw away shields basically? Link to comment
Tantangel
Platinum spiked shield in Ofcol is rare, but spiked (or at least used to be). Gold rimmed buckler I think either is, or socketable so it can be affixed with one. It's been an incredibly long time since I played a Shield Master Warrior, and that's before any change was made to it so it may have changed since then. Link to comment

I suggest an exotic because it may be a way around his super staff defense. It may not be too...you'll have to try things out. Even a rod of stars might be very good here because it is an exotic that hits his vuln. It isn't cursed though, so there is that to consider. I don't think it necessarily needs to be noremove or even an exotic. If he has to actively disarm you, you aren't in much danger as long as it is nodrop and you haven't lagged yourself. Especially with a shield. You might take a round with a few less defenses if he is lucky, but that is it. His DPS would probably be better if he focused on shield disarm because his fired weapons would go through. He probably does more damage with that than what his staff would produce if you lost some defenses (but had your shield as a shield master). Either way, if he dirts, he will likely follow with a disarm of some kind, so you'll be ready to flee after by then. It could be that you have little chance to hurt him in melee, so you'll rely on shield bash/blood loss to wear him out. My main point is that you aren't going to beat a reaver fire giant staff master in staff fighting with your build. He has a lot of bonuses stacked into staves and you have few. You are a shield warrior, so I suggest you play to your strength, not his. Link to comment
Anonymous
You did a lot better in our first fight, when I let you rest up after you lost link.. remember? You were using a shield and I was actually surprised HOW defensive you were with that. I did beat you fairly easy that time as well, but you did put up a pretty decent fight And remember to fly... but I'm sure you're aware of that. // Thyrog Anonymous poster hash: 14ad9...d55 Link to comment
Implementor Anume Posted February 7, 2017 Implementor Report Share Posted February 7, 2017 I'd go for a fire blinding weapon & shield or just a fireblinding weapon. Make sure it does not do fire damage. Use seaweed (flght that does last a little longer), sanc, protection and some ac buffs. Fight on water once you got that fireblinding weapon. Don't stick around if you lose. Bashing is a terrible idea unless you want to hinder him from casting spells, want to stop his bash damage or want to finish him off. If you're almost dead and he's in good condition, don't bash, run. Link to comment
