Rhodan

Recommended Posts

Time to fess up. Rhodan was my project. I got slaughtered by Donovan on a very well executed PK with really great RP to back it up.

Honestly, I did not realize that halflings had a vulnerability when I made the character...

To me, that made it very hard to compete. Coupled with my general unavailability in the next few months, I am moving on.

Throughout his life he earned 35 RP points, had 0 pkills (unless you count overzealous leopard on challenge), paid for 1 bounty (iukkuk), died 3 times to pkill (Zengu, Lisko, & Donovan), and had 5 mob deaths...

Deaths

Donovan got me as he reached out and says "ughgghgh" in true zombie fashion... really quite an immersive experience.

Someone lays next to your mortally wounded body and whispers to your ear, 'Sssh.. it will be over soon.'

Shubak jumps up and down, cackling to himself.

Shubak says 'Don't be afraid now kiddie, let papa Shubak work his magic.'

Shubak licks the lock of hair and closes his eyes.

Shubak says 'Yes yes yes, it's all clear now.'

Shubak says 'Inside you I see raw power you are holding back.'

Shubak says 'But the ways of lady love seem to evade you.'

Shubak says 'Tell me, honestly- You look this way because of some accident, right?'

Shubak mockingly forces a sympathetic face.

Shubak says 'You need this more than I can say...'

Shubak draws a tarot card and reveals [ Lovers ] to you.

Luck will be by your side....

[  0] Rhodan: On Displaced Loyalties
Fri Apr  7 05:46:35 2017
To: Immortal
I've been travelin' a few years now with these beasts. First it was just the birds, but
soon the cats started comin. Big cats. Little cats. Displaced cats (I helped find em homes)
escape home cats, spotted cats, all sorts.

Among all them big felines the displaced cats it the most loyal. Even though they come and go
and hide and seek, when it comes down to fierce battle for eees master, that's
where the difference is marked true.

As I remember it, I was lured into a trap by some big gargazole named Jhaerek, and he was
punching me in the teeth. Hard. But that ole' displacer beast came in front of Jhaerek's fist
and then bit down until blood was drawn. I came to respect that beast, and he got the biggest giant cutlet
any runaway straggle cat's seen.

Later that even, Jhaerek's brudder Valcor come down the road singing his song, and I knew
it was blood or nothing when he saw that Jhaerek steak hangin loose out of the cat mouth.

I'll write it here that ees fist was even bigger than his brudders. And my teeth were gettin' ready to clench
when that displacer cat just opened wide and took the whole hand to chew on. You could hear Valcor yowl, but
he lifted that cat like i've ever seen and slammed it down on the ground so hard you'd think it was dead.

And Rhodan was next, but for that cat get up like eee had some demon in him. Half dead. Blood drippin and not
just from his mouth either. He came around and made Valcor kill eeeem twice.

And but for that cat I'd be swimmin alongside the weresharks in some green canal with my eyes closed and
not a soul in the hamlet looking for me either.

So it be known these half-wild displacer beast cat creatures answer that beast call true,
and it says a thing about loyalty to die once, but even more to get right back up
from your grave and do it again on account of the spirit of battle.

That's a lesson i'll not forget.

[  1] Rhodan: On the Origin of Bush Mammoths
Fri Apr  7 21:29:58 2017
To: Immortal
Now i'm no two bit trickster illusionist like that gnome Viruthx, but I've
an appreciation for what the ranger lord call your basic paradox. When a thing is one way
an is supposed to be the other way. But it's not, because it's the other way.

Well that's the way it is with these crazy bush mammoths. Bigger than dire wolves. Bigger than
dragon pups. Bigger even than Seviskaen's way of thinkin' about himself.

As big as all that, and it still hides behind a little bush so small as I could make a hammock over it
and call it home.

So it is I've come to wonder how these bush mammoths as big as they are rustle around in these
tiny bushes all the time, and no one seeing them one way or another until you whistle at eeeem.
But it goes to figure that they have to come from somewhere. And SO.

The way it must be is that they are not bush mammoths at all - but TUNNEL mammoths.
and no one sees them in the bush because they is runnin real quick out of the underdirt
from their right an ancestral home.

And surely this would account for how clumsy they are in the light, and why no one sees em wanderin
about. Well, its that or they are just real quiet, and learned to tipsy toe from their big mammoth mammies.

[  2] GLADIATOR Rhodan: Dishonor Behind Zadt's Lyin' Eyes
Sun Apr 16 09:18:40 2017
To: Immortal
As much as these woods have kept me sheltered an safe from the backstabbin'
and drama of city folk, and as much as the Camp has trained my eyes to see
motives both right and wrong when a blade is drawn, there are times when
the frost of a cool drink in a dark bar is a welcome end to the day.

And that is where I was sittin' when Zadt came in, eyes bloodshot off purified coca,
dagger marks in his arms where he cut and poured eeees opium powder,
broke and hurt an' pitiful but you got to admire the rawness of such a sight.

Well I cleaned him up and went ridin' with eeeem thinkin he had just had a bad night
when I introduced him to Sorwalee, a nice gal in the salt city that has been known
to walk the streets an' to knock on doors in the wee hours of the night
lookin for coin in exchange for somethin others won't sell.

Well, Zadt met Sorwalee and they had a grand time. I was proud to see it, thinkin'
he was treatin' her right and she was happy as happy as I had ever seen her.

That was till yesterday when that bastard Zadt shows up all crazy eyed and powder nosed
again, sayin somethin bad happened. Something real bad.

Well one thing led to another and I beat the vomit and the confession out of eeeem.
Not only is she gone, never to return to the temple except as wanderin' spirit
[Hit Return to continue]
in these forsaken lands, but eeee right enjoyed doin it, so I had come to learn
eees nature in such a gruesome an unfortunate way.

Well, with the help of Soven I did find a dark cell for him to rot in. But I heard
it from a bird that he was out and about among the dragon's teeth crossroads.

and no one the better for it either.

[  3] GLADIATOR Rhodan: He just follows me everywhere so I had to give him some scrap
Tue Apr 18 09:36:28 2017
To: Immortal
Everyone knows what it feels like to get hit on the head right in the occipital with a sack full of
lead or stone. But some thieves be so canny they don't even need to do that much.
Well while wanderin the hamlet look for some sweet smiles from the market keeper's
daughter this little runt came up and lifted at least two pockets of gold an my sling to boot.

Well, on my way out of the village, havin' gotten a smile and a little more of what I
came for (but i'll never kiss an tell) I heard crunchin' of leaves behind me
think it was an assassin or some stray leopard pup. But it was that scrappin child again.

Past the crossroads and into the dragon's teeth followin' me even though I kicked at em
Yellin 'Get back yer butt to the hamlet, child'. But eeee says he got no place to go.
And havin broke my sling the way I see it eeees got a debt to pay now.

So I lifted the boy right on my shoulders and been givin him some scrap
which eeees taken' to fine. And after watchin the boy I have to say eeeee has a mean
throwin' arm. So until I can string up somethin more practical i've been lettin'
eeeem throw the rocks to help earn his plate an roof.

Even killed a giant that was followin' me about with one straight to the forehead.
Better than I was at his age but I'll never say it out loud.

Warmaster App

Rhodan: Forged and Hammered

To: Warmaster

There wasn't a soul in the Hamlet that knew me name or cared to when I was left in the bush.

And there isn't any now that would look on a gashed up Halfling floatin' in the river more than once

and there's not going to be any tears fallin' in that river if Rhodan or any of his kin

wash up in it. And if I'm kicking, no man or lady or king or poet or whore going to throw a

rope in. And if I was to feel a rope more than like it's the very tentacle of the Kraken come

to pull me not out of that river but rather innit to the dark salts of the sea plain.

And so may it be that way for I'll just as soon chew that Kraken's ropy handwire off

and call it a meal. And I'd just as soon crawl out that river on my own account than

make it seem like any wanderer owes me a thing. My debts are paid and any that owe me

is forgiven, unless that debt be one of blood.

But there is something i've learned in the BATTLE hall and that's the way that pride

ken be an enemy as sneaky as any strangler. I've put it in the back of my mind and

came here with sack and whetstone to learn what there is to learn, and to fight when the

fightin' is a pact with the gods of WARMASTER and the gods of old, and those that

are only shades but still know that even the hardest steel can't be forged

as hard as the heart and the mind.

Some of you have come to know the name Rhodan and to others I've been not more

than a traveler. I'd have it that you know the mettle under the name when our

blades are swinging and our cries are heard all throughout that ford and all the land.

Description:
The ugly little halfling with his matted, greasy hair and unkempt
appearance seems furtive, wild, and vaguely out of it.  His spacey green
eyes are bloodshot and dilated.  His skin might be tan under the dirt and
dried blood - or is it jam?  Whatever torn clothes, ripped leather, and
battered steel is worn appears to be an afterthought.  Indeed, upon closer
inspection and at just the right angle there is a lewdness to it all.

Among the rubble are a few items of note - the jeweled scabbard, for one,
that by the shape of it protects a wicked-looking recurved dagger.  His
necklace is also notable, with silver forged into the shape of a dragon claw
that desperately grasps a blue star sapphire.

The copper rings that adorn his left hand are plain but for the aqua-colored
verdigris built up on their surface from exposure.  A large sack attached to
a black ropy waistband holds a variety of pots and pans, pronged utensils,
wands, scrap pieces of half-cut wood, and the vague outlines of what appear
to be the beginnings of a stolen art collection - for the glimpse of oil on
canvas that pokes out is masterfully rendered.  Even the most talented fool
could not make it seem that their bearer had a hand in it.

Notes

Greatest challenge: dealing with language/dialect/strangeness in hearing the character... and PK of course

Greatest fun: Locking Zadt up in his cell...

Greatest companions: Soven, Doyal, Karos, and Shwarzenase

Greatest enemies: Surprisingly, Rhodan got along pretty well, but he had an ongoing feud with Donovan and Iukkuk

Greatest annoyances: The grind in demon pit and of course not getting trusted after over 100 hours. Being the only character logged on. How stupid armies are. Having to do homework for RP points (he should have had way more than 35).

Greatest hopes for the game: Sailing; Monster chess

Greatest achievement: Journal on the origin of bush mammoths

Doing creative writing for Rp points to get rewards you need to be maxed is dumb.

Halflings got way over nerfed, I'll say it again. If blademasters were the problem, nerf the combo like they buffed the elf/drow combo.

You did well even though we only exchanged a few words.

Rhodan was such a great character and really enriched the environment of FL. I am sad to see you go. You don't need to have fancy emotes and write long notes to have RP... you just need to be like Rhodan.

Halflings got destroyed by the physical vuln they were given.

One should be very careful when giving vulns, especially such that are easy to abuse, to races with low HP pools and smaller sizes.

I hope you roll something new soon. I know I am going to miss you.

I will say that having to think about journals did help me envision the character in a new way. But I am more of a fan of live action RP and short of being snooped or posting RP logs of it there is no mechanism for reward. When I made the character I was still under the impression that halflings had no vulnerability. It is very easily exploitable. He didn't feel too fragile, but certainly non-competitive at the very top level, and most players are at the very top level these days.

Foxx, with respect to the fact that we have not always interacted in such a positive way, I do highly value your input here and will carry it with me to my next character. With Rhodan I made a concentrated effort to be immersive, go with the flow,  and experience other characters' stories. I did not want to try and force the world into a mold. I have mutual respect for your characters and your position as one of the last MUD gamers on earth :drinks:

Your efforts are very well valued to the players we still have left. I really hope you continue on because you made the game enjoyable for many of us out there still playing. :) I also hope we learn to take the issues you had to improve the game so that we can prevent you and any others from leaving for the same reasons.

I find this reasonably offensive from both of you.

Firstly everyone complains that they are seeing too much emphasis on pk so the imm staff develop rp points to promote immersive gameplay and reward those not hell bent on rippin each others faces off.

Erelei has also just made it so any emote is included in replay says automatically. All you literally need to do is copy and paste as you log out and then we do all of the work getting things checked for you. There are hours temp and I don't get to play to do this for your, clearly, very ungrateful pleasures.

Rp points are not needed to be 'farmed' to be successful. However some of our most successful characters have 25-1 k/d ratios with HUNDREDS of rp points to spare.

Maybe there's a lesson there?

Secondly, the demon pit is supposed to be a grind. That way players have something to strive for in their down time. The fact you want to enclave yourself down there for that awesome weapon is again your choice. Feel free to just play without a pit weapon?

Rp points are pretty easy to gain now with the "replay says" command.  If you don't feel like writting journals then just engage in some dialogue in game with anyone.  Replay, copy, past and be done.

Folks should be submitting everything.  Face to face interactions, conversations in tells, cabal or clan chat...all of it.

If you have something you want your cabal imm to see tag them on your posts.

RP points are the bomb.

And you do not need to write notes or journals.

I have seen FAR greater RP rewards for simple role play in game, than from any creative writing.

BE the Character and the RP points will come.

Well, over 120 hours says different. The only RP Rhodan was ever awarded was due to journals, even though I role-played very actively with him.

I would like to see a command to RP send after every session to immortal. As a rule of thumb I do not like doxing my characters here.

By the way, I do not think this is a flaw with current immortal behavior, I think it is a fundamental issue in the subjective way RP points are awarded, as well as the gatekeeping mentality of end game rewards. I would like to be able to play and achieve in this game without asking permission to do so from some watery tart...

Your RP with this one truly was awesome. To put as much into the RP as you did, and then not replay, cut, paste, for the reward seems insane. You inspired me to do it for the first time, and I was rewarded. In truth, I did it with the hope of seeing YOU get rewarded. I believe as players, if we see someone kicking the RP ball around, we OWE it to these players to share OUR experiences with the staff. I had no way of knowing whether they were "watching" us, so I decided to post the log to see that the role play was rewarded.

Its time to stop thinking of RP points as something we can earn, and start thinking of them as something we can give. Kudos Mali your role play with Rhodan impressed me, and I tried to share it with the heavens when I had time.

I know, helping others seems wrong to some of you, but my family believes in giving credit where credit is due, and the replay, cut, paste, remains one of the greatest ways we can promote each other.

Respect.

I do want to add though that my original post was not made to be an idea/discussion/critique. It is a simple descriptive exercise to mark the character's farewell. As others have noted, as players we are responsible for the atmosphere of the game. I simply worry about a time when FL has no imm support and these mechanisms are locked out of the game.

I write journals and sometimes post edited logs on rp forum. There have been many instances where I haven't though just because I forgot, too lazy, etc... @Kyzarius is correct, it is so easy to post edited rp logs now because of the replay command that it is almost silly not to take 5 minutes and do it.

The system works just fine. I have a character with near 470 rp points with about 70 positive rp awards , 21 come from journals, so upper 40s come from role play interaction either live or posted logs.

It wasn't meant to be offensive, I love your work and purposely don't submit many logs because I know you're swamped.

The only lesson I can see is if you have all the Rp rewards you want, leaving you with hundreds left over. You then get to be unstoppable?

As someone who rps regardless of reward, I can tell when I'm getting farmed for Rp points by people. It's so obvious and low effort purely for the points that while it may of increased the quantity of role play, the quality has definitely gone downhill.

I'm quite often the only person on. I was on for a few hours last night and there was no one else so while YOU might get a lot of Rp points from talking to people, my main option would be to write journals or Rp with myself which is where my comment about creative writing came from.

I'm not complaining nor do I want anything changed, but people refuse to try see things from others perspectives a little too much around here.

Lastly, if you guys don't get to log in due to the current system that means its flawed. I'd much rather have you guys log in and role play with us live.
