He was using discordant fiber. Which is not an bad choice, imho, considering the recent changes to behead. Not much point to having a defensive weapon there.

What recent changes to behead?

What does behead even have to do with the weapon choice of your opponent?

I'm not even sure to be honest. I think that change logs for qclasses/races typically are only sent to those classes IG which is honestly kind of a waste since the changes IG will go away after a while. If a change happens in February, typically by mid March it's for sure gone and the information to the change isn't updated in the help files for people becoming those classes. So if Behead were to be given a +50% chance to succeed against larger creatures and -50% against small races and no one is playing that class until April, they wouldn't even know the difference. And since many of the change logs on the forum don't always tell you what was changed and that something was merely just changed without elaboration it doesn't really pique curiosity enough for people to want to play those classes. With it being so vague it's slightly counter intuitive to being open to others about that knowledge.

For instance a real change that came out last year in September for Psis the change log went to Psis themselves, but I don't recall ever seeing it on the forum, but there was a brief blurb on the MOTD board for a couple weeks before it disappeared as well. It didn't affect my Psi path at that point so I didn't really look into it, but when I rolled my second Psi I went scouring through the forum for change logs and couldn't find it. Thankfully I had a log of the change, albeit it took me a week to find, it's little things like that that could possibly help the interest in the classes rise or be eliminated altogether. Like when I first came back and saw Bards had been changed again. I had to play it because of the massive amounts of changes they had. Same thing for Ninja's and Necromancers. I think it could possibly be beneficial to open up a little more when it comes to those qclasses, especially since last year we were allowed to play those classes in HM, it doesn't make sense to keep that information locked up anymore since it's already been allowed to break that barrier once before.

As it is qclass material, we can't discuss it openly. All I can say is pay very close to logs and you will reason out why I said what I said.

We are not allowed to discuss Q-stuff, but we are allowed to speculate.

I since I don't know what it actually does, lets theorycraft.

You advise whips against behead, which are very offensive and suck at defending.

A logical person would assume that behead has something to do with decreasing the chances of defending against such a crusader.

If we look at the log, we will see that the DKN is actually using a shield, and once after behead lands, he didn't block (nor dodge, although he didn't dodge even before the behead) a single attack.

So seeing the log + your advise, it's safe to assume that behead does indeed greatly decrease the chances of defending against such a crusader, once after behead lands.

Now I have logs of my own against this particular crusader and when I review them with that in mind, I can see that this assumptions holds true.

Interesting.

But then again, that's just speculations of my own.

Judging by the length of the battle you did fine because there is lots of stuff to go over and look at, neither of you got blown out or overwhelmed the other.

Dark knights can fight a few different ways:

charmie based, dirt kick, rescue and bash.

mal based, magic missile, curse, veil, plague, poison.

afflictive based, magic missile, fireball, iceball.

It will take a few battles sting results or you can just look at your apponents armor to see what he will be weakness against. High meal or afflictive saves means go charmie based, high -ac means do spells on him. Also feel free to mix and match :)

Demon DK's were both of my crusaders worst enemies.

That probably has to do more with you, than the actual combos.

Crusaders are one of the biggest banes of DKs.

They are actually the biggest banes of anything that can be lagged, since they have one of the highest damage potential of all melees, the highest defence potential, and one of the most reliable lag skills.

If you can't outdamage a crusader and you play a class that can be lagged, it's GG for you.

Which is why some people prefer playing mages. With a mage, you can always resort to tactics. With a melee, if you are not the biggest fish in the ocean, it's gonna suck pretty hard for you when facing other melees.

@ Demon DK
You are playing your DK like it was a warrior. DK's aren't warriors.
Read the second essay in here:

Once you realize you aren't a warrior, you should prioratize your defense so you can cast more spells. Sure he doesn't knows whips, but you are throwing one of your defences out the window when he can already smash the other two.

Just wield a cursed polearm. You probably malformed a carpter hammer. I would use it. Even if your whip is hiting the double of times, your polearm will do the double of the damage and defend a lot better.

Next look at him and check his saves. You can use fireball to check saves. Crap fireball damage == high AFF saves.
Your best AFF spell is Iceball.

Get a decent pet:
You can get the Warlock to auto-lag him so you can cast and prevent him from fleeing.
You can get a caster pet to cast spells, like the Mistress of Magic or Torilar.
You can get a dirt + damage pet like the dwarf dude, crab or lion pride, but you can't really cound on pet damage vs a crusader.

Enlarge yourself.

Read the essay at the top.

On Behead/Decapitate thorycrafting.  I know not what it does. I always tought it was a Cleave Mk.II . A high damage opener that probably can't be used in combat or blind. So if it gives you to much trouble, try dirt kicking him. Like mino charge, that lion pride auto-dirt can save you a lot of pain when you flee. I have no idea why you weren't shield blocking and I find it very strange, but I think it has nothing to do with Behead.

If you look at your second behead, you aren't also parrying. Most likely he is full on hitroll + offensive bonus. So polearm or if you insist in whip, dual wield them. Because if you can't defend there is no point in not using the most offensive weapon on each hand.
PS: there is a magic cursed whip in the bathhouse.

I read the first one and didn't even honestly notice the second one. I just figured I'd roll with the punches on it. Charmies are my weak spot majorly. I do have a carpenter's hammer, but 0 kills  means that it sucks ass. Whips are more of the way to go in this case since as long as I'm not being messed up with the other affects of Behead, at least I'll still have an offensive front. I do know of the whip you're speaking of, it may be a good primary in this case and I can throw in another decent whip in my offhand. First couple bouts I was dual wielding, and another bout where I used a shield, I did block pretty much everything with the exception of a few minor hits. That last one though I was just destroyed and I don't think my ass will ever be the same.

Playing a hybrid class like DK has always been pretty foreign to me once I hit level 40 or so. I typically dislike them and playing melee's for the most part I forget about the spells part of the class so I'll have to start thinking more about them. His hit/dam seem pretty average from what I can tell just looking at him, but I'm not sure about how it works since I've never fought one prior to this and I've never played one either. Maybe my next character should be one so I can study them more in depth for weaknesses. I'll start looking more into the second essay I hadn't noticed though and see what all I can apply towards my next encounter. Thank you for the advice.
