Lexi
So, the other day, I was watching some Twitch streamer that used to play MUDs, and it struck a chord with me. My last character from my time as an active mudder was a Tribunal vampire back in 2009; it was my first qclass ever and she was extremely short-lived. I was never great at PK, but I immensely enjoyed the roleplaying atmosphere here. I had a brief return a few years ago, played a character to 50 and got caballed, but it didn't last. And now I just felt like checking in again. It seems like a bunch of stuff has changed, but it is with nostalgic fondness I remember this game. I started playing back on a dial up modem in 1.0, with Imms like Virigoth, Sirant, etcetera and 50-70+ people online simultaneously. Even after all these years, I remember general zone layout (alas, some zones are reworked, but the general geographical layout seems to be mostly the same). It feels nice to be back. Maybe I'll make a character and stick to it this time. P.S It's a bit odd that it's impossible to view the 'General' forum unless you're logged in, especially as the 'For All New Visitors' thread is stickied there. A new player wouldn't even know it's there. See you all around in game!

Manual Labour
Not sure what is taking Croyvern so long, he should have "welcomed you home" by now. He must be getting old.

Lexi
I started up a cleric and am already considering switching to DKN or monk or something. What're people thoughts about the current state of the game? What would be a good class/race/cabal choice for getting back into the game and learning the ropes again? Fool_Hardy
Best advice I can give for a returning player is this. Play something that can Identify. Things have and continue to change. Immerse yourself into the character you decide to play, stay focused, and cram that RP down our throats. Help journal, many utilize journals to keep the gods above aware of the actions and thoughts of their characters. RP has become a currency that can actually affect PK, be sure your earning as much as you can. Have fun, and this is the most important part, its a game, enjoy your time here. Manual Labour
Goodies are good for learning the game because you have hard coded allies and you can request stuff. I wouldn't worry about Identify since you can now buy the spell for RP.
Magick
43 minutes ago, Manual Labour said: I wouldn't worry about Identify since you can now buy the spell for RP. At the Bazaar for 20 RP. A well written history could potentially buy that for you. Gates there can be found directly across from the city gates in the three major cities. There's a few new utility commands, too. Stow, sort and assign are divine. Dcheck allows the immortals to approve descriptions while you're offline and allows you to rank to 30 while you wait instead of sitting at 15 waiting. And many others. Worth a look through the change logs. And welcome back.
Tantangel
If you're capable of writing thoroughly and in depth histories or journals, you'll get more RP points than your description check which as mentioned above you can use to buy things that wouldn't be normally available. Evils seem to be creeping up in numbers again as I find there's a ton of them online and very few good aligned characters. Play a warrior in Herald that's neutral. You can easily get both locate object and identify and after you're trusted in there, you'll be capable of comfortably soloing everything. Even possibly a Bard as well. Fool_Hardy
Personally, my experience has been that I gather RP points faster through character interactions in game than through Journals. Be the character and the RP points will follow. Perhaps I get lucky and interact with other players who log everything. Some would argue that with few people playing its hard to interact with others. I counter that derailment with hundreds of worthy mobs to talk to. If you are the ONLY person logged in, I believe the chances you are being watched by unseen eyes raises exponentially. But that is just an old fools experience.
Tantangel
Interactions can offer greater yield assuming someone logs them. The other day I had just started a log and suddenly my computer froze. I had to completely shut it off and wait until I could log back in again after rebooting. Since there's no logging IG option, I couldn't even see what happened because I logged back in far away from where I froze. Journals offer me points for when I'm training though where as interactions are few and far between at those times. I've found that histories can yield between 15 and 25 points though I'm sure those vary depending on who's approving them as well which means you could get fewer or greater points. Journals between 5 and 15. Finally interactions with other players will more greatly depend on content and willingness to post in the RP section. Those have given me between 7 and 22 points depending on the character. Usually characters I prefer to RP through IG actions will yield the higher points and I don't do journals at all. The characters I choose to do journals on usually get fewer points from those logs, but also tend to have a greater yield by the end of the character. I usually have more interest in the characters I choose to do both with then.
