(1/1327hp * 338/415mn * 367/522mv)(134395g 1:00h (D)m 20712xp) l kesh Keshan is huge, even for an ogre. Broad muscle packed shoulders branch out from a thick neck, leading to equally well-muscled arms. A broad chest and trunk like legs continue the same pattern. His head continues out of his neck at the very same width. His jaw is square, the nose flat and triangular, the nostrils two vertical slits on its side. His lower eyeteeth are much larger than a human's, sticking out over his lower lip. He seems to be quite young, his first fluffy beard braided, two braids just below his canines, another two at the side of his jaw. Sideburns looking just as fluffy continue upwards to meet his dirty blonde hair, which is of a much coarser quality. Up front, his hair is cropped close to his skin, standing up in short wild spikes. On the sides and back of his head, the hair is much longer, however being braided in the same style as his beard, the hair hugs his skull and offers no handholds to any potential attacker. His skin is of a dull, greyish- brown color, with just a tint of green to it. There is no whites to his eyes, the slightly oval pupils surrounded by a seaweed-green, almost glowing retina that fills his eyes completely. His alien eyes give an odd intensity to his gaze, his slightly brutish features at odds with the intelligence lying within. Pointed slender ears stand out from his head to both sides, like a pair of spikes. His armor seems to be slightly too large, though the chances he might still grow into it seem to be quite high. Thick, layered pauldrons emphasize his broad shoulders, consisting of four hammered out flat steel half-rings, overlapping one another. The uppermost ring is engraved artfully with an alien, swirly pattern. The breastplate ends in a collar of the same style, the breastplate itself also engraved on its outer rims. Vambraces, gloves and greaves complete the set. He wears a dark blue tunic over the breastplate, a dark blue cloak, unadorned but warm looking, is fastened to somewhere under the huge pauldrons. Anonymous
I am not trying to start a discussion or argument here but I wanted to lay down a few things as the Nexian in question: Khumpf called his intentions to me WELL beforehand. Khumpf never attacked Keshan's Armored Knight. (That I witnessed anyway) I did not initiate combat at all with Keshan while Khumpf was fighting Keshan. Keshan had a bounty. I used the time he was busy to take a standard. I only initiated on Keshan at my altar to defend it. I did not chase with initiations at any point during Khumpf's battle until it was well and long past concluded. If I am bountied and a Knight is on, I do not expect a Syndicate to break RP and leave me alone just because it would feel unfair. I am happy to get beat up pretty good completely on my own, but just because there are more than one player on with the ability to PK doesn't mean the world should stop. I've been in PLENTY of disadvantaged situations, and I'd say you faired perfectly fine in this one. Cheers and well done anyway. -Nebu Anonymous poster hash: d4213...06f Link to comment
Anonymous
@Nebu: I have no problem with this if there are 2 Nexians. What I have a problem with is a neutral syndicate who attacks me at the Nexian altar when I try to retrieve and protects Nexians while they are taking my standard (repeateldy, not just you). Being caballed means I have to defend and I have to retrieve after all. So this basically forces me to get tagged. It's also not as if I need the same weapons / armor to fight a shaman and a warrior, or as if my cabal skills were worth nothing when fighting a warrior as Khumpf said. Tantangel
Typically I myself wouldn't bother. If the Knight wins, then I'd go for them or vice versa if they have bounties. Otherwise it only goes to serve to ensure that people stop playing those characters indefinitely or at least deters them from wanting to play them because they know that if they're strong that their enemies are always going to bounty them and that person who bounties them only goes does so typically because they know they can't beat them. It's drastically different when the person logs on first with no enemies and a bounty, since most people would even stop Cabal warfare in the sense of knowing the other person is in battle of another. Continually going after a person for a bounty seems fickle, especially if/when those bounties are really petty. You typically spend a lot more gold and effort than most bounties are worth most of the time unless you're already walking over everyone in the pbase, so it definitely seems more like an 'asshole' behavior. I'm still all for changing the bounty system for that very reason. 50k gold means no one gets anything because the person is cheap as hell and deserves a bounty of at least 100k on themselves after it. At 100k it means the Hunter gets 1 item and the bountier gets nothing still. It's not until the 400k mark that the person who bounties them that the individual who bountied them gets 1 item up to a max of 3 at 600k. And I'm sure people would still bitch about this change despite the fact that it does nothing to help the person who bounties and since the gold was put up for so little they feel they deserve to get something from it too. In under 15 minutes I've managed to get 200k on classes that aren't even a Merchant or at pinnacle. Bounties are hardly worth it anymore, especially for as small of a pbase as we have. That was a very close fight in the end though, and a decent read because of it. Link to comment

Twinblades713
I tried, a long time ago. I more or less forced an Alliance between Syndicate and Tribunal. It took a shit ton of RP and a lot of waiting. Trying the dirty cop routine, and in the end I got Vindis to work with Oppressant on the Alliance. Got Syndicate to 'agree' not to collect bounties in town in exchange Tribunal would bounty all criminals so that committing a crime means you would not be safe anywhere in the world. It was a pretty good run, but as I saw it, almost immediately after Oppressant was done the Alliance was completely undone and it went back to the Nexus Syndi alliance. Link to comment
Tantangel
They should do away with the alliance system altogether. Why should Syndicate align themselves with any singular group only? They're chaotic typically, each individual character should have their own alliances and the Cabal itself allows you to coup others which is even more cut throat than most others. Having a system that allows for them to align with groups and make an enemy of another entire group to me always felt forced. Should it take RP points to force it though? No. I've always felt like you're the hired hit man, and you should align yourself to those around you and affect you directly. Not some no name who contracts you to do it. It would be far more interesting to see them revamped into singular entities with everything they have now with the exception of alliances and wars. Link to comment

Kyzarius
You know, i did that too. Twice. on Sepahoona and then Rathanous. I managed to get Savant allied with the Syndicate. Lasted a couple of months, weeks on Sepahoona since i dropped him shortly after. The moment i left though they reverted back to syndicate and nexus. Like within a week. It is so very stupid. Even when nexus is totally dead and empty And it HAS been that way forever. Now if no one else tried ok, but hell i changed it then wham, back like a rubberband. I also notice everyone saying if they both had bounties this or that. But thats BS in this case. The nexus buyout their bounties. Personally I do not think the Syndicate should be allied with anyone. They should be equally philanthropic with all cabals, offering services for a price. And selling information. The elders can refuse bounties for any number of rp reasons. Its great rp actually, i did it quite a bit when trying to create "agents" of sorts with other players. To that note they should not be vendetta or raid capable either. They are spies and assasins, merchants and con-men. Not conquerers, and not the rifts personal bitches. Link to comment
Unknown Criminal
Syndicate should NOT have allies especially if they are full of neutrals killing for gold, they should be wide open to buyouts FROM EVERYONE at the same price because their heart just isn't into it. Evil syndicates should be able to pick and choose, neutrals however money hungry they are should be able to accept a compensation offer and F off for the afternoon UC Link to comment

But I do agree with every other point, more diverse relations, open bounty buyouts. Having allies restricts their RP far more than it does helping it. How? Simple. You're contracted to take a hit out on someone plain and simple regardless. The flip side of it though is that you know with almost 100% certainty that the bounties are being placed by your allied forces which only serves to make enemies out of them as well. It forces them into a war that otherwise could be avoided if they had no alliances. Someone contracts you for a job to kill someone, thus you kill them and there's no priority to who comes first. That means no buyouts since only an ally can buyout their bounties, and the amount is usually not much considering the bounties being placed are almost always for a very insignificant amount. Remove their alliances though, and their RP becomes more flexible, it means they can try to extort from people who have bounties rather than just going for them because "they're supposed to" due to allies bountying. That also opens up the possibility that you can test their mettle for newer members too. Sure the newer members could try and extort it, but if someone were to decide they'll fight because they think they're stronger and end up losing opens up the avenue of that individual not trying it again in the future. Alliances are always very stifling for RP, especially when it comes to Cabals that allow different ethos/alignment into it. A Purity Warmaster for instance who hates all Savants and is almost always going to have issues when it comes to fighting a Good aligned Savant all because of politics. Sure you shouldn't, but by not doing so you're going against WM code in a way, and by actually following through with it, you are risking Outcast and alignment change. Syndicate can have allies in a different capacity, but different in the sense that it depends greatly upon the character themselves and not just some hard coded alliance that doesn't make sense to begin with. They're lone wolfs typically, they're not about being all buddy buddy with one another, so why should they ever want to do so with other Cabals? Link to comment

When I played Kotrag, Syndicate was initially allied with Savant. They were innactive, weak and never placed bounties (not even to active Warmasters). Basically, we got nothing in return for having them as allies. It took a surprisingly huge amount of work to get rid of this alliance (because our own leader was innactive) and establish a new much more profitable alliance with Nexus, from which Syndicate profitted with far more than just bounties. Everyone complains about the Nexus-Syndicate relationship, but noone wants to do anything in order to change it and keep it changed. I've personally seen this pact broken so many times, especially when there are strong characters on both sides. Maintaining an allaince with syndicate is not an easy thing and the moment the ally starts to take it for granted is the moment they lose it. Considering how easy it is to place bounties, not placing them while being an ally is straight insult. 14 minutes ago, Tantangel said: That means no buyouts since only an ally can buyout their bounties, and the amount is usually not much considering the bounties being placed are almost always for a very insignificant amount. You are so very wrong, you have no idea. I've collected bounties of ten millions of gold. Also, back when I played Tkanzhar (nexus DKN), I used to bounty Chesta's invoker (also nexus). It had to be a really huge amount, because the character was strong and to not be able to buy it out, and even if he decides to buy it out, he had to spend CPs which he would otherwise use to coup me. Was a very interesting scenario in which I used my allies against my cabal mates. 14 minutes ago, Tantangel said: Having allies restricts their RP far more than it does helping it. How? Simple. Tantangel
It was elaborated on later in the post, that was just the beginning of where I was taking the point from. It's not narrow minded thinking, it's just a fact that you're the hit man. Why does it matter if it comes to who puts the bounty on someone or not? It doesn't. By making it so that an ally who bounties someone creates a different color flag that is supposed to get priority, it just tells me that you're being thought of as a slave by that individual who knows that it is supposed to be a priority because of it. Removing alliances means you're free to pick and choose far more than you can now. Sure you can refuse bounties, but the ability to do so isn't allowed until you're at least an Elder. As far as getting millions from bounties, that's great. Every single time I have played and was in Syndicate though even the #1 spot was at most 400k, and they were usually someone who was already difficult to defeat. Add in the fact that not everyone can be great at PK like you are, those kills are typically a much steeper hill to try and climb for others. The rest of the bounties at that exact same time were always between 50k-100k and if not that, 100cps- 200cps. The best one I saw was 1000cps and 400k for the top person, and that was typically Ivesianna. So I'm not wrong, it depends a great deal on the time in which you play and are in that Cabal in order to see it. For every 1 million+ bounty you saw, I'm sure you saw a ton that were also 50k-100k. If you kill them in under 5 minutes, sure it's probably worth it for you. I can get the same amount of gold though in half that time typically and have around 1 million in my bank without much trying by the time I hit 50 at any given time. Link to comment
Dale
Food for thought. Cabal info tells you who your cabals allies are, only Syndicate and their allies can see who everyone's allies are yet everyone and their mother knows who everyone is allies and vendetta'ed with IG. Syndicate being an ally to another cabal does not stifle them in any way. Yes Oppressant and Vindis acquired an alliance between Syndicate and Tribunal but that didn't stop me from collecting their bounties if they refused to buy them out or couldn't. Didn't stop Raemus for going after Hebh when he refused to buy his. However the promises the syndicate can make and what they are willing to uphold have always been the foundation to their alliances. Without that intrigue for manipulation and the ability to create any relationship you are essentially forcing a lone wolf cabal. Sure that's what they are now but everyone already logs off when one gets on or gets pissed when they get contracted, what will it be when they are just a bunch of silent pkers? Link to comment
Tantangel
They wouldn't be anymore silent than they already are though, especially considering alignment restrictions. How does it stifle them being in an alliance with another Cabal? It does so by forcing you to be allied with people your character doesn't like, but due to the Alliance outside of collecting their bounties you risk severing ties with them because of your hatred. Removing alliance doesn't risk anything though which makes them evolve more as a character and less as a Cabal. To put into perspective: You're a Vet in Syndicate. You hate Leonidas because he's a Knight, you're evil, and you both touched each other a LOT when you were younger and getting the upper hand on one another has switched continually over the years on who has won making you about even. The issue is you have an Alliance with Knight that clearly states unless they have a bounty, you're not allowed to attack them regardless of your own personal feelings of hatred towards them. Leonidas doesn't have a bounty because he continually just buys it out so he can focus on just his Cabal enemies, but your character still has that urge to kill him and thus attack him ruthlessly. Gomer Pyle finds this out and issues a few warnings over the course of a few days, but you're relentless, and as such it severs all ties with the Syndicate because of such and instead of just breaking a pact you're now about to go to war. Mind you, you're the only person in the entire Syndicate halls who is solely responsible to this happening, and lets say that there are 4 other Syndicates and none of you have the ability to change politics, but none of the other 4 people have anything against the Knights and have found it lucrative. You just pissed away an Alliance due to your characters RP which you should remain true to, but you also did the same for the others which could potentially conflict with their RP. So is it fair that because you wanted to war with them that the others are forced into it? I don't want the answer of "Cabal leave confirm" because quite frankly that's another reason why people stop playing because the fun was ruined by someone else. By removing Alliances for Syndicate you essentially choose who your enemies are regardless of how it may affect others. There's always the possibility that that individual will create a monster out of someone after repeatedly killing them and they decide to kill every member of Syndicate that's known or even suspected, but it's far less likely to happen where as leaving in Alliances could very well put you into a Vendetta that left your mates in a worse position. So why have an Alliance with a Cabal just so they keep adding bounties to the boards? Remove the Alliance entirely, make that person your friend, add in the ability to sneak into ANY Cabal as long as you're a Hunter and they're hiding inside through the use of 'Bribe', and then have that friend bounty everyone so you have something to do. Alliances are limiting. A true hunter would have no alliances as it allows them the flexibility to expand much more than just Contracts. Link to comment

Zhurong
I've tried across characters to break the alliance as well, with epic failures which lead me to rid myself of the character. Syndicate shouldn't be able to ally with any other cabal, instead they are the spies, assassins and merchants of the land. They are the shadow workers for those who want an item or want someone dead without being known. I see a lot of complaints in terms of syndicate and majority of them are right, at least in a sense. The minimum price of bounties should either be raised through hard code or small, minuscule bounties should reflect back to the person placing them. Minimum prices could increase exponentially which the higher rank of a caballed character. I am definitely for syndicate never being allowed to ally with a cabal, or even have a trade pact. To be honest, I am even for Merchant becoming seperate from syndicate therefore if people are wronged by merchants, they can receive the short end of the stick as well. If you want someone dead, bounty them. If you want their items, bounty them and send a note of what you want. It is a simple thing, but even some of the cabals are 100% frowned upon for even using the bounty system (aka knight). What is so wrong with the knights using a corrupt system to aid with ending darker souls in aabahran? If someone is "wanted" by knight, they should be allowed to bounty, even encouraged.
