I am, however, interested in player opinion regarding demons, so tap out a prayer post or shoot me a PM.
What we can discuss here isthe idea of a demon quest, a la undead or vamp, in lieu of the way things are handled currently.
At present we watch applicants, judge their potential, then react according to where we feel they're at. Sometimes I might have them do a small quest to determine loyalty, stretch their abilities, test resolve, etc. and then RP the change myself.
We can also streamline the process by making it a quest. It will remove the personal touches, but will probably make the process quicker. Plus quests are cool I suppose. Tell me your thoughts.
I like the personal touch to be honest. Made my demon apps always seem very tailored and starts you off with a very strong impression that you represent the demonic horde.
IMHO the binary pass/fail quests kind of bite. You do the RP, get thrown in some kind of riddle grinder, and if you mess up you lose everything based on how you reply to a prompt. Always seemed kind of a letdown. Vamp, and Psi particularly. I would rather them ALL be the more personal touch.
It's been very easy to retry for a while now. We're vry lenient, so as long as we see effort and improvement we're happy to give you another shot. This is ESPECIALLY true for that damn psi quest, I hate that thing.
ahh, that's different from my previous experiences then. Which was a long time ago to be fair.
I still like the personal touch, I enjoy the RP with the Imms more than the quests as a part of the quest app experience as a whole. Though I am sure some like the quests too.
If it is to make it easier to get them though by streamlining the process for all involved., I cant see that as a bad thing.
My previous PSI attempts were always, you failed, sorry about your luck... or you just dont get to try anymore.... no matter how many pages long notes I would write with RP about it.
yeah, I think I've only tried for PSI once and failed... just seemed a little too much to try and work my way back up and try it all again. Especially when I didn't fully understand it the first time. perhaps the PSI could be appd instead of questing, I don't know I enjoy the personal touch instead of questing... for somethings.
Personally, I like a quest when it is not just this exact answers is the right way. For instance I have done the Lich quest twice now, succeeded both times and I am fairly certain my answers were not the same both times. It makes it seem like a more realistic approach, whereas the Vampire and Psi ones (I have never successfully completed the Psi) are pretty static and a single always correct answer.
I think there is definitely something to be said of going the more personal interacting with immortals approach, however streamlining is always nice as well.
BTW, please change Psi so it is a more open ended quest line, damn thing keeps killing me
Also, it seems to me that Psi is the only quest that if you fail, you die. That to me seems very odd, I would think that may be true for Lich/Vampire/Undead (outside of the obvious fact of what is happening to your character) but Psi, that one always seemed to not quite fit. Just my two cents.
Also, sorry to derail here Volg. As for Demons, I like the others, do like its personal touch and understand the desire to have a streamlined quest. I do not see a reason we cannot have a mix of both. For instance, let's say they do go through the quest, and they fail. Well instead of simply having them do the quest again, now they have to go the longer route, but in the end, should the imm's approve, they succeed.
I would also say that between the options of doing a streamlined quest and the personal one, perhaps some players may want the longer drawn out path, and if the Imm's are up for it, I would say they should have that option.
The Lich quest is awesome. Very intuitive. I passed it in one try, and just had to really read into everything and it really set a nice ambiance. Heck, I wanted to read into it because it dripped of so much juicy lore I used it in my RP afterwards.
The psi one is more like, ok do this, neat, now figure this out or DIE!. Oh and this, well both seem right, but DIE!. And if you take to long DIE!!!! Then Anithraril told me i sucked in so many words lol. Second time I got it, but only because I knew what to expect and had reviewed logs of my first attempt for days. The end result was a quest that really contributed nothing to my character other than scaring the shit out of me.
Vampire just had nothing to do with my character, was like ok RP, RP, RP, AWESOME RP with Anume and Chayesh and everyone. Then, do this obscure quest Valadar..ok...oh you got lucky so here is more badass RP (becoming a vampire is so awesome). Which made the quest seem like a requirement that really didnt add to the journey at all. Which is sad in a way, since playing Vampire has to be the most immersive experience I have had in FL.
Frankly I think the conclusion I am reaching is do a Demon quest, especially if it expedites the final step of becoming a demon. But really, make it like the Lich one. Make it designed to teach the unique FL lore, to reveal what it means to be destroyed by a demon so bad that it takes over your freaking soul, and you become it.
The quests should be gateways, the final step, hurdles but more so things that plunge you into the story, not make you afraid you might miss something and lose all your effort because of a prompt you didn't answer correctly.
The new undead quest is so much cooler than the old one too because it makes you feel like you're heading into the underworld, ripping your soul from the pillar and (I forgot what happens at the end but it's cool lol).
So a demon quest that captailizes on those points (potentially sucks you into the rift/demon plane) and makes you part of that world/lore would be sweet. But just like PSI and undead, the chance of death should be potent.
My opinion is custom over automated. Though if you're pressed for time due to real life concerns, various other Imm-ly duties (like smiting Navi) or have a dozen or so applicants, going through the grinder isn't a bad thing. So perhaps a "best of both worlds" approach?
I think a custom experience is far better than anything automated. Creativity is ultimately what this game is about and anything that makes the game feel automated is a negative. The majority of the lure to game is being able to tell a story how you want it told, not filling in the blanks to get a desired outcome.
I third anume's opinon. My demon rp was amazing, there was two or three other imm interactions that were dope as hell but being drowned with vellum and transformed after being thrown against a wall and broken in so many ways still makes me want to roll a human warrior discord.

I found that so much easier then Vamp quest... Its just common sense? :P
