Back in My Day...

I read all those instances from the last BIMD thread and just got so nostalgic...

Back in my day:

Training in Emerald was a risk all by itself because the mountain boogum regularly made short work of lowbies.

I felt accomplished getting to V in despair.

If Martineius walked by and you didn’t go to jail or die, it was a good day.

Bryntryst would kill me, eat my corpse and purge the room for trying to ooc eq transfer across characters.

You would get multikilled and looted repeatedly by everyone and nobody cried trash.

I moved a room at a time through the chasm because I thought something there would kill me

Being able to detect invis was a HUGE edge...

Things that no longer hold true, and are presented in no order but that in which the mind of a drunken Pali has brought them forth:

Back in the day...

...30/30 hit/dam with an ave 25 weapon was a solidly-equipped melee.

...Warmaster and Savant were absurdly overpowered compared to anything but Conclave.

...I got into poke wars with Immortals.

...healers were in high demand.

...Justices were free equipment for ninjas.

...actually, everyone was except vampires, invokers, other rogues, rangers, and druids.

...4 v 4 cabal warfare happened fairly regularly...

...and it wasn't as good as we remember it being, as one side usually just grouped up better than the other and slaughtered and full looted mercilessly with near-zero pushback by the staff on such tactics.

...IMMs and IMPs actually played favorites, especially regarding their own characters - and sometimes did so proudly and overtly with a clear sense of entitlement as justification.

...I somehow got labeled a veteran player after being here less than 6 months, largely by accidentally stumbling onto an OP combo that fit my natural playstyle (gnome invoker Savant was ridiculous).

...nobody knew how to make any of the workshop contraptions.

...level 50s ruining your 42-50 ranking was not only common but expected.

...Winter gear was top of the line.

...bare minimum RP (that very often bordered on OOC) was the norm.

...I spent way too much time on this game (versus's today's "not enough" 😔)...

...and I was a lot less classy a player.

I remember when....

...psionicists used to fill up sacks with heavy equipment just to fling at people.

...leveling through 20-30 was a gauntlet of cleaving DK's (I never got to cleave someone in half......damn)

...Savant's would pop in, rape you, loot your corpse and vanish.  Even worse when they were a vampire....

...When my little slith warrior knight (first caballed character) got absolutely smashed by Gorath

...When hearing the Rasep D'artep was in the area you screamed and ran like a little girl

...Having assassinate wars with Tetsunai(SP) on some random necromancer who was just standing around in the commons

...When having a full set of mithril armor was enough to roll against most of the playerbase

...when going to Gear was a full party epic adventure

...when seeing 50 people online was the norm

I cleaved a Halfling in half a few months before the change. I miss the Shades though. The amulets were the only way to avoid them and Rasep was a bitch regardless. Trying to complete that quest now is nearly impossible unfortunately without breaking rules/game mechanics.

I remember when Heroes were a thing (as in the case above with Peikloz).

It had its good sides, but nowdays trump them 10-1.

Back in my day.

Every time there was a world shift you'd spend the few hours before hand frantically sorting your inventory by dropping and picking up equipment and cry silently when that sweet nodrop piece of equipment was at the bottom of the inventory list...
