Kyzarius
Oh yeah the academy does help a lot in learning the basics. I geuss it comes down to what you define as newbie friendly...and FL honestly is a very very harsh game...because even though they have been through the academy there is a lot of things in the late game especially once pinned that new characters just dont know. I would be suprised if there is a person here who's first pinn wasnt pkill food for the active base at the time...
Magick
The MUD is newbie friendly. Entirely. From the help files to the clan quests and so on. It's the PEOPLE that aren't newbie friendly. Most anyway. And they're just IC. FL just has a very steep learning curve.
myrek
if the staff didn't want us to aid newbies, there wouldn't be the academy. Although I am unhappy that it is connected to Heralds now...

Guest Birdman
When I was a new player, and I was looking for help or advice, I asked around in game. I know, it probably sounds crazy. But I found that if I would RP it a bit, play something like an eager student, and also show intitiative rather than just looking for handouts, veteran players that I interacted with would share a lot of tactics. My characters have also shared thoughts and tactics with other characters who RP it out. I don't really see characters trying to build a teacher-student relationship in-game anymore. Even an evil character can help people in game if approached correctly, and I really enjoy helping out when people actually put some effort into it. I suspect that a lot of vets feel the same way. I can't remember the last time one of my characters was asked anything about strategy. I do see a lot of people asking how to do things on the forum, though. Also remember, not everyone goes to the forum, so some people are only learning in game.
