Anonymous Posted June 20, 2018 Author Report Share Posted June 20, 2018 What I should've done to escape is eat my teleport pill, which is the exact reason I got them, but I just kinda panicked and forgot. Even the melee round where I parry/block every single attack, I take almost 80 damage due to automatic forms (they really did a lot of damage to me for so few rounds), and the lag from traps just prevent any sort of escape. I was trying to double back to the cabal guard since it engages him and gives me at least two rounds to heal before he can melee me. In our engagements today (which was pretty brief since I got killed after getting the standard back), temporal storm hit him once. My path/steel wall is such a low damage output that it feels like attrition will never win the game even if I can dance around and heal up. It's just an uphill battle and at this point it feels like just getting away alive is a victory. Heck, some times I just want to let them have the standard so I don't have to die, but I've been doing my best trying to get it back anyway. Kyzarius Posted June 20, 2018 Report Share Posted June 20, 2018 A few things I noticed here. Thieves suck for clerics. Lets get that right out. Halfling thieves the MOST. Avoid fighitng in tight spaces. You need to do the cleric dance for your combo to work. Temporal storm. First off you need to lead with this when you are buffing yourself. Not sure if you know that but the + spell lvl is crucial. Holy hands for example, gets stronger. Its "hit" isnt the point. Though it will ALWAYS hit with 100% chance the first round of combat. The point is ---reversed regen, and double expiration time on buffs. This is your BEST attrition spell. You turn all that hitgain into pain while also adding a huge risk for stance to drop unexpectedly. That is a big part of the cleric dance. You engage, get Temporal on them, then immediately flee out Age Didn't see it either. Got an enemy fighting your guard, AGE. 100% hp, AGE. it is always worth it. It ruins their haste, as well as reduces combat effectiveness. And you sometimes get lucky and they forget something ike third attack, or dirt. It never misses. Your path - you need to kill people. Your path of deceit gets stronger the more pkills you have. So to recap, you cant let yourself get trapped like that. Run around, hit and run, hit and run, e,e,e,s,crit,crit,w,n,n,w,crit,crit. Think tetris shapes to break scan. DONT FIGHT MOUNTED, not sure if you did or not but this is crucial. Trust me. . Engage, let temporal lash, then run. Beef up your path. Cast temporal storm before you reverse time, not after. Hasten yourself, it helps you avoid getting hit. Link to comment
Anonymous Posted June 20, 2018 Author Report Share Posted June 20, 2018 I'd aged him a couple of ticks earlier (I tend to always initiate with it). Also, due to Danpher's saves, temporal storm will rarely stick on him. Throughout our encounter (me running to get my flag, fighting in the Ford, then going home with the standard), it landed on him once. If I can't get it to stick, I won't be able to rely on it. Also if I avoid fighting in narrow spaces, I lose my standard and can't rely on any cabal spells, and then have to fight in narrow spaces trying to get it back. I'd love to have a stranger path, absolutely. I just don't see a scenario where I have 30 pkills and 3 deaths instead of the other way around. Also, hasting myself will do absolutely nothing if I lead every fight with age, since using Savant spells cancels it (reverse time, age, temporal storm). I could have it for two ticks if I use the shield, but that's about it. I never fight mounted, especially since I use the sneaky boots when I have to get away. This is usually how I try to fight, running for my life, healing up a hundred couple hps, moving again, healing. Some people are really fast (looking at you in particular Berston) and I get caught when healing, but I also die a fair bit trying to defend my cabal or having to get the standard back and having to double back into the room Beston/Decimus/Danpher is in and eating another round of murder/forms/autodirt-disarm-shielddisarm/etc. Sometimes I just mess up after a haymaker or get hit by the dispel trap. I just thought clerics would be more of a defensive powerhouse than they are, or at least allow some margin of error. Maybe I'll get the hang of it before this character is over. 🤣 I'll mull this over and see if I can think of a different approach, because the ones I've been using clearly isn't working. It's been suggested I go for all the health items and duke it out like a mage instead (kinda makes me upset when my path hits for 'wounds'), and it's been suggested I just get as big of a weapon I can find and play more towards a melee build. Age - > then use shield after fleeing. not hard. Temporal storm - if he has it already, it wont hit again until it drops. It lasts 2 - 3 tics (6 tics but its effect makes everything he has expire double time), you should learn this, and time your attacks with it. Avoiding engagement the ENTIRE time it is on him, then engaging once you know it down for the sheer purpose of putting it back up. you can win a fight by doing just this. It just takes a long time. it is a debuff, not an aff attack. They do not heal naturally at all, ALSO their mana is backwards too, and it makes stance last ike 2 - 3 tics. So they will slowly exhaust all their mana, restancing over and over, losing it. Path - Kill. People. go hunt down goodies or something. You need pk's for path to be strong. Link to comment

This sounds anecdotal and screams of a logical fallacy. Why not fight mounted? Because paladins get a mounted combat skill and nobody else does? Fairly sure they get a bonus when fighting mounted. I'm also confident that there's no penalty for everyone else. I'd love to know your reasoning behind your claim. I've noticed nothing when I've done my "extensive testing" concerning this subject. Needless to say, I'm skeptical about a lot of information floating around unless I see it first hand or have empirical proof otherwise. If we're talking about the paladin mounted combat, there's nothing there that states there's a detriment, only a bonus. In the code, there's bonuses and penalties for various things (eg: against blackjack [picked at random, not sure if that's actually one currently]), but I'm fairly sure that's just concerning the mounted combat skill, nothing else. MOUNTED COMBAT Syntax: automatic While the use various horses and beasts for travel is common in the lands of Aabahran, the skills to actual carry meaningful combat while mounted upon a steed are all but unknown. Yet those whom mastery this fine art can enter combat upon their steeds and thus benefit from their stability as well as strike terrible blows at their victims while charging with a pole weapon. Will you have any ill effects if you dismount for combat if this isn't correct? Nope. Not a one. Except maybe "normal" move cost. It's certainly a safe option until proven otherwise. Link to comment
