The Birth of FL

Crypticant

Recommended Posts

Was perusing this place a while back, and saw someone posted the old Network54 forums.

I was able to dig up the original "Cursed Lands" forum, that begins around March of 2000. I think anything on the web older than 6 years can be classified as an "antique". :)

Anyway, it's a fun little read. I (of course) am Shadowspawn, and Viri is still goold ol' Viri, though you'll also see him called Toroth and Skor at some points. You'll see the others, too...Alexander, Latesh, Athaekeetha...(any old players will know the first two as Grayyg and Orcrist, respectively).

I think any of you who know me will appreciate this post:

Okay, I'm a little with it. You all know what a damn dirty alcoholic I am, but bearing this in mind, I'll be coherent here. Probably.

My first mission to implement ogres, demons, and fairys (oh my!) has not yet gone through. So, I'm working on that.

My next goals are the following:

Load in druids. Build battlemages. Make Battleragers/Warlords (I was thinking calling them Warmasters, what do you think?). As of now, that's all I'm limiting myself to, so as not to put too much on my platter at once. I am as well going through thousands of lines of code as Ath is, looking for backdoors, editing anything with an 'abandoned realms' flag on it, and basically doing small, unnoticable, yet necessary changes to make this place officially ours.

So, that's my cup-o-tea.

Shadow

Enjoy watching FL's roots take shape. :)

From a relativley new player - joined just after 3.0 release - I have to say that reading through this stuff is amazing, really gives the mud a sense of History.

Maybe its just me ...But I always feel that knowing where you came from is as important as knowing where your going.

That should be the knight helpfile. So much cooler than what is up.

Knights of The Crown

Long before the time of turmoil, before the cabals and their wars, Thera was ruled under one King. This King's name was Cormac MacNessa, and though his strictness cannot be argued, peace flourished throughout the lands. Cormac dictated the laws, but they were enforced by his trusted knights. Called the Knights of The Crown they were composed of the most elite and disciplined warriors in the land. An army that never lost, and whose spirit could never be broken. The Knights alone held the darkness at bay, and no power could break through their regiments to invade the peaceable lands of Thera.

Like so many perfect kingdoms, the end came as a result of treachery, of a betrayal from within. To this day the assassin's name is only known to himself, for to speak it brings a quick death, but this much is known. Through subtle manipulation, factions of the infamous Legion did contract a man to steal Cormac's life. The King was poisoned with hemlock when he drank from his goblet while at dinner with his family. Upon his

death, many of his most private belongings were said to be missing. What they were, and where they are, remains a mystery.

After the funeral ceremony, Cormac's Knights gathered around his grave to grieve in private. For the first time in their lives they were without a master. They were without a cause. They were lost. As they said their final words and prepared to leave, they heard a voice call out.

"Wait my brave knights! Wait that I may speak to you." It was the king! Pale and ghostly Cormac stook from his coffin and strode towards his astonished knights.

"My time is short," he said, "and you are the only hope. The days that follow will cause much bloodshed. Evil has gained the advantage, and nothing now can hold it back. It is up to you my most loyal of servants. When the land is ready, a new king will come, and only you can find him. There are spells to aid you, and you must seek...seek...the....five...power...no time."

The king fell backwards never to awaken. His knights stared for a few moments while his words from beyond the grave sunk into their minds. A new king! A future! Hope was not lost, and their cause was clear. The lands must be restored, and the new king must be found.

REQUIREMENTS:

Alignment: Good only

Classes: Paladin, Warrior, Berserker, Invoker, Battlemage, Cleric, Monk

Rank: Thirty-five minimum

If you feel yourself worthy, send a note to KNIGHT

Sure, I remember. Thanks for the comments. Glad to see you're still around!

As far as qclass and cabal info in the old forum, that is 6 year old info, most of which is now obsolete. And, if anyone is able to pick out the parts that aren't obsolete, then it doesn't matter anyway, since they already know. :)
