egreir
The head coder hasn't been the head coder forever. So that's kind of moot. I don't know why I'm even arguing at this point lol

Mmm Coffee
I wish I had the PK log of Zoichan trip locking my syndi thief for something like 15 rounds when he caught me without flight. If that's not possible any more, I'm perfectly ok with that.
English lad
The thing is Monk trip has to be inconsistent - by design. If you could consistently trip lock then you would basically always be just going for Air Thrash, Chii Bolt, trip, trip, trip and automatically be able to beat any class that depends on entering commands for its damage. One of the problems with Monks is the fact that they are balanced by having a high level of variance. Some encounters the RNG will roll in your favour and you will win, in others it won't, and you have to get out of dodge. Being able to read which way the fight is going, and being able to judge when you need to book it, and when you need to go 'all in' is basically what makes a good monk player. I love Monk's in principal - but I dislike combos that are so RNG dependant - probably because I tend to overthink things a bit by nature - and with monks you can't fully plan out your actions - you have to watch the RNG and adjust on the fly accordingly. egreir
We’re okay with giant warriors eating venom sacks and bashing for 3-4 rounds of lag, but monks tripping you for 2 with some consistency is too much?
English lad
Warriors don't have a way to get rid of Protective Shield - Bash / Body Slam has a counter. Even if you get Haymakered out of Prot Shield you can likely flee and recast it - you can't recast fly once you've been thrashed - you are just going to get tripped. EDIT: For reference I'm not a massive fan of command denial being how to win PK battles anyway. I'd much prefer lag being less powerful - and chasing people down be more viable. 'tarako
Monks also get lagging stance procs and can laglock you with their passive melee
English lad
1 hour ago, 'tarako said: Monks also get lagging stance procs and can laglock you with their passive melee All of which is RNG based - like i said - Monks are balanced around the variance in their kit. If you make trip more 'reliable' because most of their kit is RNG based - then you will overpower them for the times that things align. I would prefer to see some of their strength moved off RNG and on to choices for the player to make - either in terms of stance taken or active skill use. I could see kick being given extra affects for every stance - as it does for some stances already, as a way of giving more control tot eh player rather than just waiting for RNG. Manual Labour
Nobody is asking for a buff to monk trip. This all started with speculation that trip has somehow been nerfed. Erelei clarified to Zrothum on prayer, and to a bunch of us on discord, that trip has not changed. Some people were just curious because through their recent PK experience it felt like trip has been lagging less than it used to.

Fool_Hardy
Two of the "trip locking" monks mentioned were undead. Is this a factor?
'tarako
Not in my case, I was a decked halfling healer so I was never hit with the undead skill where it impacted combat directly

And it still is way too reliable, IMO, especially considering they have even other means to lag, that fire automatically, Some people here, like Zoichan, have mastered to perfection their "randomness". If you want consistency though, they are not for you.
