Promotion of FL in R/MUD

all those things you mention tarako are the vast minority on discord. It's mostly memes, bad jokes, and a lot of very random posts, plus Magickbot is there 24/7 to do all our bidding.

I genuinely hope so. I won't try to find out though. Ooc toxicity had a severe negative impact on my playtime last year. Having Uninstalled discord, I have had by far the most rewarding, and enjoyable, character I have ever played. I know I didn't make it better, I often react poorly to obviously inflammatory statements,  and I recognize that I'm going to be better off as a player by removing myself from it. I hope it has become a haven for players, but I also want a billion dollars.

Everyone has their own opinions about Discord. Avoid it if it's too much or don't if it is fine for you. Either way it is there as a tool to promote a better community. If it actually serves that purpose in reality... we could debate.

As far as this reddit stuff, I don't really know what reddit is for but it sounds like some folks caution against blowing it up with FL shoutouts. Please take that into consideration when you are trying to promote FL.

Naw. Not trying to dig up drama but there are 5 or so players that really made it completely exhausting on my end. It wasn't an imm, even though lloth kicked me from server after I said I'm dropping console for pc gaming lol

Facts are overrated I guess.

Discord is fine. If you come in there with incendiary opinions, then you can expect to start a fire, period.

Secondly, the mud is fine for new players to start. There is plenty of online content and helpful people in forums and discord to help get them going.

I agree with opening newbie chat up to everyone. Everyone knows by now not to abuse it, just put a high penalty on players who use it for anything other than newbie help (which I really don’t see being a problem).

Maybe code in a question at creation, “Are you new to the Forsaken Lands?”. If they choose ‘Yes’, then they get a green PK flag so that they can be identified as Malform foo... I mean as new players so that we can use OUR BETTER JUDGEMENT to help them experience the game in a positive way.

I disagree with the newbie chat. It's training wheels for newbies and so long as you don't rank quickly, you're fine.

After that, there's the Academy. Same help line, less ooc.

For everyone else, Heralds and Imms have it. You can also apply for it if you're not one of those. Had it on my non-caballed necro recently, for example.

Considering the small amount of the pbase, how many actually have newbie chat? A newbie is going to have questions all the way to 50 and then some. There is not always an imm or herald on. There are a TON of questions to be asked, and almost everyone here is a vet. I do not see the downside to opening newbie chat, can you further explain why you think it is a bad idea?

The newbie channel is our only ooc channel. For those people who can't phrase their question IC-ly. Sometimes it's just easier to ask about mechanics in such a fashion in game, though if they're on the forum or Discord the channel is a happy extra.  While there are those that could abuse it, they're probably the minority. I find it more immersion breaking to have an ooc channel. I expect Heralds and Imms to answer the question in that channel. I still feel it odd when the big bad Nexus Demon does. That's personal opinion though.

Once you're past the level you lose the channel (15) you should be beyond the need for asking on it how to move. Accessing various basic help files. Etc.

The training wheels need to come off at some point.

In this, we don't need ever-present Heralds or Imms. Or everyone to have the channel.  As you said, pretty much everyone here is a vet. We've got many ways for a newbie to ask all the questions they need to all the way to 50, without the help of the newbie channel.  Clan chat, faction chat, tells, says, emotes and so on.

I mean I said I'm probably switching to pc gaming, then I'm no longer in the server and you where the only active admin at the time

I keep myself as "offline" - and I'm certain many do too. If you're kicked it's either because you're breaking rules or literally asking for it (I know that happened very early on to manual labor as part of a back and forth joke, but he got invited back immediately).

I don't care one way or the other if you PC or console game. Yes, I troll sometimes. But I don't kick/ban people for their preferences, and I don't appreciate those assumptions being spread about me and passed off as fact.

I mean you where active in the chat, I said it, 30 seconds later I was banned. I just thought it was you trolling around, and I decided to just not use the discord after because previously mentioned experiences. I didn't mean to paint ithe in a spiteful, malicious, vindictive or inflammatory light. I just thought it was you enjoying good natured lulz. I apologize if i didn't word it in a way that accurately depicted how it felt about it. It didn't bother me and I didn't raise a stink about it either

The biggest Discord trolls happen to be Imms, go figure :P

(yah I'm looking at you Ulmy, you and Lloth)

I dont know how thats possible considering I haven't used it in about a month.

Also you all are not interested in a fun/welcoming/happy environment (as shown by multiple players removing themselves from the toxicity that is the discord channel) so when I've had to 'moderate' it turned into something so overwhelmingly negative it was easier to just remove myself from the server.

You could look at it as having 'got rid of' on of the biggest 'trolls' or you could look at it as gotten rid of one of the more 'open' immortals when it comes to sharing information ;) either way I'm not interested.

So, umm, I'm probably not drunk enough to be posting right now, but can I hit you up for information laterz?

EDIT:  Gotta get with @Magick,too at some point.  Frickin' time to change mud clients.  Scripts look like damned latin had sex with the shift key while a monkey flailed at the number keys.
