He must be one of the most ruggedly handsome Drow to ever emerge from the underdark. His face is flawlessly symmetrical and his smooth onyx skin is totally unblemished. His features are just the right size so as not to look awkward or freakish, everything sitting in the right place just so. His red eyes blaze with determination as they take in his surroundings from beneath a bushy but well kempt silver brow. His physique is within the realm of Drow norms though his bulk must put him on the upper end of the spectrum. His height is average for his kind and so he appears thick comparatively. Despite his heft there are no signs that he did not inherit the legendary agility of his people. And there in lies the paradox, or perhaps the superb, this Drow possesses a perfect fusion of agility and sturdiness. Light armors account for his protection, no heavy plates of any sort can be seen on him. Maneuverability appears to be paramount to this fighter who also does not burden himself with needless weapons. Just a few hilts poke from their scabbards with the promise of blades not far behind. He has a powerful silver mane of thick full hair that hangs down his back from a typical fashionable knot. Though he wears a rough and ready apparel he still cannot conceal his elegance. There is an eerie stillness to his demeanor and even though he looks relaxed you can tell he is lying in wait for something, or anything. Unfortunately, rage from powerchord is pretty unpredictable, and I had people get away from me after just 1 hour raging. So I couldn’t rely on it keeping him in battle. I was very astonished to hear he deleted over this fight. It was not all in my favor as some others are. I’ve also been roflstomped by some other characters. All in all this was very balanced damage output wise until he allowed me to land my debuffs and then continued fighting. He should have reset the fight at that point. I made a couple mistakes myself, the worst not putting bagatella and canticle right back on when they faded. A couple of the dirt kicks were also unnecessary. Statistic on song landing rate: I think his sv breth were close to none. He’s a drow though so maybe that helps? Out of 5 powerchords, 2 landed (rage effect). Out of 2 taunts, 1 landed. I obviously made mistakes, starting with trying kyousanken....worthless vs you. I landed 0 attacks in that stance . In my best stance I hit you for injures.... I deleted primarily because I lost my best saves items in the bounty and I was already fighting uphill vs most of the Savant lineup. I spent a lot of time being careful and setting myself up to fight these Savants and all gone over this death. I just really hate string vogue, I think it is unfair as a mechanic, it punishes mistakes worse than almost anything. At least you have a chance to flee in many other situations. You had alot of bad status ailments, and tried to stay in a losing fight. I fought marcella as seviks a few times with terrible saves, and no idea what she can do skill Wise and still made it out. When they hit the first echo I woulda been gone for sure. Maybe archery puts bards a bit out of balanc3. The majority of their actual melee damage was from archery Link to comment

They can heal almost anything away, can lag, have resistance to dirt, lag, etc. I think having their own saves category is a massively effective boon. Combine these things with shadowform and it's still extremely formidable. Link to comment

Why the hell are you fighting in a city? 2. You played this one too close to the edge. Your damage was even in the first 'bout' why decide to stick around when the bard is nearly full hp and you're still down a quarter/third? 3. You know what her lore/mastery is. Why stay in battle that long? Its like staying in battle with a LS ninja, you're setting yourself up to fail unless you can kill them first. Bit hard if you're starting at 60% HP and they are 100% HP. IMO you need to approach fighting bards like any other hybrid/mage. If a DK starts spelling you up, or a shaman lands 4 debuffs, you don't hang around... So why hang around for this one? Link to comment

I still think that a 2 round lag skill (even a class selection!) that can lock you in combat for 16 rounds while allowing full use of your kit is excessive. All the bard has to do is generate any kind of advantage, then boom, press a button and win. In other situations even if you make some mistakes you can flee, run, use skill and try and survive. Very few combos can lock anyone in combat for that long, let along without lagging themselves in the process. Link to comment

I've had fights where I had the other party fully spelled up and still was getting my arse majorly kicked (once even in the city, thanks Dranthos). If you guys think that bards as they are now are still overpowered, go ahead and play one in a cabal. I want to see your positive record before you continue with this whichhunt. I've left on a little hiatus once before because of something similar. I also did not log on for several weeks until I got told that the instrument tone was now in effect and I had all my instruments swapped. I do agree that bards were too strong before. But there was 0 chance of victory for me because no matter how I got ahead or no matter what mistake Marcella made she could simply walk away and reset, literally 0 fear of losing. Then I make one mistake, literally she finds me without sanc for a nanosecond between fights as we had both reset and boom 100-0 instagib with no chance of counterplay or escape. So what did I learn fighting this string bard? They can make as many mistakes as they want, and cannot be punished (I jumped her a couple times without sanc btw in that fight) she just literally walks away, or veils me and doesnt even have to walk away. The fact that they can lock you in combat for 2 ticks and also autoblind you for 2 ticks means that at any given moment if you do one thing wrong the fight is instantly over. I gotta ask myself what is the risk/reward for this interaction? I have nothing to gain and everything to lose, Marcella has nothing to lose and everything to gain. If I play my absolute best what do I achieve? She runs away at pretty hurt or awful (happened several times). This is my best possible outcome, and what do I have to lose? Making a single mistake and boom, dead and lose 3 best items. I understand my character will be bountied #1 most of his life, that is fine. I understand I will have to fight off bounty hunters, I am ok with that. But what do I do vs a combo where I have no chance to win and a million ways to fuck up and lose? Well most people just wont fight her, or just log off. Sorry but that doesn't fly for me, I refuse to log off to avoid an impossible fight. There should be no impossible fights. You want to know how to fix string bards? Make their powerchord rage you for 0 hours max, they also cannot flee during that tick (you are both unable to flee), and put a 0 hour cooldown on it. Problem solved. Now with good timing they can still lock you in combat for a whole hour, and they can do so again every other hour. At least there is a chance to survive this. It literally takes 0 skill to get a kill with a string bard right now, and everyone knows it. Future blms may perform better when certain changes are made with spellkill and predict and bards but we all know change around here is not that fast so I'm not holding my breath for anything. And to top it all off, the worst thing about bards is their own unique saves category required. I guess every character in the game should have an eog armor in their back pocket, cuz it's not like that item is unique or anything. I mean I can stack mal saves to help me vs LS ninjas, evil clerics, shaman, necros, vampires. I can stack aff saves to help me against invokers, necros, evil clerics, vampires and battlemages, I can stack mental again to help against evil clerics, vampires, necromancers, invokers and battlemages, but if I want to fight a bard I better remove my entire set of eq and put a whole new set on. I checked the database, there is ONE -4 breath saves item that is non rare, every other breath saves piece I see is rare or unique... It's utter bullshit, bards are fucked and they are fucking everyone else. I refuse to play a serious or meaningful character until this is resolved, if it ever is. Link to comment

I refused to log on until it was fixed and my instruments were changed (3 weeks or so). Calling bards as they are now the most OP class in the game is ridiculous. Your damange output is so low that against heavy melees you will not even have time to debuff them before you need to run for the hills (unless they are so nice to let you sleep them). Try to play one without a bloodguard some time. @ML if you refuse to poison yourself and are caught with neither poison nor sanc, you'll be dead vs most sleep classes (and even vs quite a few others). I'd have killed you with a necro far more easily under the same circumstances. Powerchord alone does nothing. So you can't flee for one to two ticks while you beat the shit out of the bard (this happens regularly even when I have some debuffs landed). So what. I have taken more unavoidable deaths to bodyslam, bash, rush, and thrust than I ever did to a bard. The only thing that seems hopeless vs a bard is the single for mana sing for hp loop. Beyond that they are necros without pets, dks without charm etc. Link to comment

I played a small size ranger at least 10 months against all sorts of laggers (ogre war, crusader, vampire, blood guards galore) and never once got laglocked to death. I did however die twice to a rage mechanic that offers no counterplay until I learned to avoid it entirely. Link to comment

No other combo in the game would have outright 100-0 me if they caught me without sanc. Not one. I caught you at least 2 times without sanc in our hour long fight, it was not even close to lethal for you. That's my point, sure your combo is not a guaranteed kill everytime but when shit lines up there is no counterplay. And you have relatively very very low risk considering the reward you are capable of getting when it all lines up. What is my incentive to even fight you? I was ready for you every time for 59 minutes and won most exchanges but you can simply veil me and walk away, try again, then I make one error and boom, game over. EZ Clap. No other combo woulda done that, none. edit: even if somehow a a necro slept me, or a thief caught me, the odds of them doing 1200+ dmg before I can flee is very low. It took you almost the entire 2 ticks to kill me unsanced, it was like 13 rounds iirc. A necro can only guarantee a kill when they are in an area that has a good summon location, and there is always a chance to flee in most cases unless a locked door. Link to comment
