Spending RP Points

Looking for the basics of how this works...

The items that are for sale, can you buy more than one of them?

If I buy two necklaces that are the same can I wear both?

At the same shops, stats appear the same...are the different ones just for different looks, or do they have hidden different abilities?

Are the owner only or can they be looted?

Are there any general agreement on the edges that are the most worth it? Hard to gauge these things without knowing details, which seem sparse.

1. You can buy multiple edges/pets/colors/renames.

2. You can only wear one necklace.

3. All the necklaces are the same as far as the religion is concerned. Best to pick your religion's necklace. Best way to know is do help tattoo and match the type. Other than that, the caster and melee are different from one another.

4. They are 100% owner-only and will go with you on death.

5. Best edges are typicall Restful Body and Zealous Faith. The rest are okay, but nothing super exciting. I've purchased just about all of them and a few depend on the race I am playing. For instance, I might take Strength of the Ox on a weaker race or Well Prepared on a giant.

The restrung item set to owner only for 80 RP has been discontinued, but is still listed in 'HELP RP POINTS'.

Locate Object is super useful for any class that does not have the spell already.

Strength on the Ox is an edge I would never be without on a low strength race. Hunter of the Virtuous/Damned/Dead are decent if there's a lot of specific qstuff around. Some of the edges I read the helpfile and barely know what it does, much less the actual specifics. As Trick said, Zealous Faith and Restful Body are extremely useful for pretty much all characters (unless you play a class without scrolls and decide not to join a cabal - in this case Zealous Faith is not very useful).

Also, have a look at the following post from general chat:

You can now create your own customized armor via rp points, and upgrade it twice. If you wish to make such an item and have the rp points necessary, send a short application to immortal detailing your chosen stats and description.

each of the following stats gets 1 point:

hp 10, mana 15, move 20, svspell -1, hr 1, dr 1, ac -10, svaffl/mental/mal/breath -3

YOU, the player can choose your own stats:

LEVEL 1: cost  50 rp points

you  get 2 points to spend total, the item is ownered and nosac, burnproof, not rare (so it's really nice for moderates too), you can choose the body spot yourself, you can choose the description yourself (no color)

LEVEL 2: cost 50 rp points

gets you an additional 2 points to spend

LEVEL 3: cost 50 rp points

gets you an additional 2 points, plus you can choose one word colored,  item is rare now

If you want to do a second piece of eq after you are done with the 3rd upgrade, all costs double in rp points, tripple for the third item, etc.

This way if someone wants really a ton of customized armor, they need to pull up some GREAT rp, and then, they earned it. Be advised not to flood / spam us with notes or journals of little content. We need to check these all and if the content is lacking you might find yourself with negative rp points as a reward.

Disclaimer: we reserve the right to change requirements, costs, and stats if we notice any balance issues.

Earrings in particular can be really sweet compared to what's available, and have some nice stats (-60 ac, or -6 vs saves, etc), but I had an owner only light with my last character (the Crimson Banner of Miruvhor), which felt really nice after I put a lot of effort into becoming noble.

There are some other edges which aren't bad. I don't think they get enough promotion in Trick's post.

Would you care to share them?

Some are super vague in the helpfiles. Others.. seem like they could be either great or terrible.

RP can be invested. It is currency after all.

For instance. A purchased pet combined with regular interaction with the pet can easily replace the cost of the pet quickly. Purchase becomes investment.

Language points can be purchased. Using the new language to interact with people will sutely provide a very high return.

Restrung items can be used in RP situations as well as PK. Creating avenues for reclaiming the cost.

People should consider what they want, and the many ways it could be used.

Foolish thoughts by an old fool.

Restful Body is touch and go. When I've got it with my characters i didn't really notice a difference much. I find many of the other ones much more useful.

If you are at the hitgain cap, you will get no benefit.  Drop some hitgain, and itemize for other stats.
