Trouble with... Inspiration...   Anyone have any suggestions?...

Feel free to PM/DM here or Discord if you have thoughts you would rather be more personal.

I like doing PvE stuff, don't mind PvP but I am likely not the aggressor very often.

I would like to be in a Cabal... (not Watcher - not that I DON'T like it, I have done it most of the time)  I Generally play goods and sometimes Neutral, hardly ever have I played Evil.

I like to play / work in groups and have a harm time self motivating myself when no one else is around... this is more of a personality flaw then anything but worth mentioning.

I have limited skill in PK so something that's not the hardest to play...

If you're having trouble coming up with something on the fly, don't worry.  Doing RP like that out of the gate is hard and few can do it well.

Instead, set yourself a character outline.  It doesn't have to be great or nuanced (it's an outline), but it should be there.  What's your long term goal?  How long do you wish to reasonably take to fulfill this goal?  What will you do after you reach this long term goal?  Will you retire or will you have another goal in mind?  I'd recommend not planning too far ahead, but knowing what happens after you reach goals is as important as reaching the goals themselves.

Come up with two to three short term goals that move toward the long term goal.  Once any of those are completed, come up with another to replace it.  Repeat until large goal is complete.  This will help you a lot when you're on your own and have nothing else do to.  Don't rely on motivation.  Motivation is a trap.  Waiting on motivation can and often will lead to stagnation.  Discipline is better.  Discipline keeps you going.  Stick to your goals when you're on your own and the moving toward them.  You should never be without at least one short term goal that works toward your long term one.

I'd also recommend not being so rigid in your RP that you exclude everything else.  Focus is great but blinders aren't.  Play off of other people.  They could give you insight you weren't expecting or ideas that would tie into your current plans well, which may alter your goals by varying degrees, but don't always browbeat them with "me me me".

I usually pick an inspiration and then diverge from it so that my idea becomes unique. Then I add in some quirks/flaws/strengths to spice the character up a bit. These are all vague on purpose, so that I can decide what I want to be on the fly or be influenced by characters IG to direct my path. Be open, it doesn't all have to come at once.

A well played villain is a rarity. The levels you have to go to to portray a truly well executed villain are not easy to manage. Finding a unique angle that isn't just kill em all, while still maintaining that dark feel. I recommend trying to play an actual villain, not just an evil

Personally I look at my own character traits and try to impose at least one or two of them on a character I'm playing. If I don't, chances are that I will only play the character with limited RP or no RP and spend maybe 50 hours dinking around before deleting them. One of my longest played characters has many of my personal qualities and I let a lot of myself shine through on it. At the beginning of that characters life I had two goals. Find a Cabal I'd enjoy, and actually tinker with the class itself to see what I could do to push it to the limits without making me throw it away. ~1350 hours later and nearly 2 years and that's saying something at least.

PvE Maybe go for a Warrior then or a Cleric. Cleric you're limited to Evil or Good, but a Warrior you can be anything. Either case you're looking at least decent PvP too depending on your knowledge of those classes, but that will depend on your PK skills too. As far as Cabal goes, you can always shoot for something you're not familiar with. I am always intrigued by Cabals I haven't played or played very little in. I usually just wing my RP based off the goals I set, and sometimes it's influenced by what is happening at the time that I can build off of that. Every single time I've set goals and outlines for a character, I get maybe 300 hours out of them at most, and usually at 150 hours I'm getting bored already. I don't always do winging it well, but when I do, I entertain myself by doing it and that's literally all that matters to me.

Possible options that I've contemplated in the past that could work for you:

Ogre Warrior Neutral Watcher - Custom Warcry "This is MY Swamp!" Obviously Shrek inspired, but you can play with it some and laugh about it. I already played a Halfling Ranger that was 'old' and the custom Warcry was, "Get off my lawn!"

Halfling Warrior/Ranger with overweight perk and a Custom Warcry of, "Don't make me run I'm full of chocolate!" Obviously horrible at PK and constantly trying to get away. Joke character so I can laugh about it.

Gnome Thief that gets pissed when Giants come walking around because he's got short mans syndrome and they look like great targets to be knocked out and robbed.

It might be easier to go at it from the other direction. Instead of making a character outline/history/etc., just play a 'normal' archetype of whatever your race/class is. Dwarf? Just act like a dwarf.

Then get yourself involved in whatever plot/characters you happen to meet and *make* your history in game. After a few interactions, you'll have a solid background of shared history/involvement and be well on your way to finding your character's niche and personal style.

Don't need to make it all about you...just be a support character to whoever you find and get involved. Just being involved in things is 90% of the work.
