Custom Titles -- PK Advantage

Okay, this isn't a big thing just a minor annoyance I've always held and it's likely become strong enough to post because well... I've been away for awhile.

Once someone receives a custom title, unless someone previously saw their guild title, they have no idea what class that character is. Invoker, Warrior, or even Blademaster?

It's a huge PK Advantage. Granted, it won't last long it's still something that shouldn't need to be worried about when giving a really cool reward. I think custom titles are one of the coolest, btw.

My proposal? Include guild information with the info command. Have it change with disguise, as to not provide a way to circumvent that skill. Also a particular qclass/qrace.

As an aside: Couldn't we at one point see another characters age?

I think its fine as is. If you're not sure what you're about to face, then test the waters and run away. Seeing ONE skill is enough to know what they are.

I don't know about you, though when I'm picking fights... Knowing the guild actually changes how I prepare and survive a fight. I would prepare incredibly different for a Necromancer than I would an Invoker or Monk.

So if they dirt you know exactly what they are right trick?

So a character role plays his arse off, and the immortals gift him this wonderful title based on that role play. And you are saying that the immortals should have placed his guild in the title to keep it from being a PK advantage. Did you ever stop to consider that the immortal who granted the title KNEW it would be a PK advantage? Its only a momentary advantage, as stated above. A better question is why do YOU believe that a character whom you admittedly do not know the history of should not have that exact title?

This happened recently with Grezath Vs. Lejarak.

However, it defeats the purpose of the disguise skill plus a qrace skill of the vampiric variety.

How would you address the intended function of disguise?

the destitute fool

the forsaken

the Valiant Knight, adamant defender of the Castle

the squire of Thulgan

the Master Investigator, Ambassador of the Orcs

All well earned, none of which declare the guild.

My suggestion, follow Trick's advice, wade in slow and test the waters. As opposed to purposing that these hard working characters do not deserve what they have been granted.

Edit:

Destroyer of Castle Walls

Thulgan's has changed. I think its Destroyer of Rheydin now?

the list goes on and on. If I forgot anyone, I apologize.

Do any of you even read the entire post before responding?

I said add the guild information in the info ability. Like this... As an example

info inveigulant

Race: Demon, ***Guild: Ninja, ***(Right-handed) (Lucky)

Face: Pleasant     Eyes : Green        Facial-Hair: Clean

Hair: Short        Color: Dark blonde  Texture: Straight

Body: Muscular     Skin : Tan

Description:

Also, in my post I said that it should change according to the disguise skill AND a specific qrace/qclass.

This was mentioned as a minor issue and annoyance that has grown to be more of both for me. I said absolutely nothing about the characters that have those titles nor the immortal giving it. I said even less about how the titles should be done. I couldn't care less.

If a character is famous enough to have one of those titles, they are famous enough that even the most basic commoner would know what guild such a person would belong to anyhow.

Why don't you ask other characters in game if they know what guild a certain char is?

Edit:

if you don't know how to tell a necromancer from an invoker before the fight starts then you have WAY more issues than just a title.

I understand that it may cause you to prepare differently, but the game has risks. I don't believe everything should be made so available. Its just one of those things, man.

For a text based game the average reading comprehension around here sucks.

Then why did you bring it up? If its not a big deal, then leave it alone. You're nitpicking. Stop it.

That is a terrible statement. Just because something isn't a "big deal" doesn't mean it shouldn't be more perfect. It is incredibly easy to implement and there is a need.

Stop being against positive change for the sake of being against change. Would you be upset if this was added? If so, state why. Otherwise go find another post to nay-say.

Mudder. I do not like the bio command anyway. I do not think that you should be able from a single command to know whether my character is right or left handed or what perk I chose. Do you know which people who come to work with you are right or left handed without observing them? What about the homeless beggar asking for change? Does he reach out with his dominant hand? Are you certain? A con man may be a carpenter, or he may just say he is. That command is very bad for RP. A shame since I am certain it was created to promote it. I would prefer to see less information in that command. But just to help you out. That demon is not a ninja. He sparkles, and he IS Glamorous! But he is not a ninja. He could never hide with all that sparkle.

Alright, fine.

You want this implemented because you see characters with titles and you can't tell how to prepare for that class in PK. Fair statement?

I don't want this implemented because:

  1. Its not hard to find out what someone is by asking other people.( Promotes interaction between allies. I said this already. )

  1. The game is not meant to be spelled out so blatantly for you. It has risks and this, despite the ACTUAL rarity of it, is just another risk. ( I said this already. )

It is fine the way it is. I think the way it is RIGHT now is perfect. It doesn't need changed. Why? Because it is PERFECT THE WAY IT IS.

It is NOT a positive change. You saying it is a positive change does not mean it actually is.

It is a change that presents more information to you instead of leaving things unknown.( Despite how short that time really is - ONE encounter should be enough to know. )

I would be upset if it was added. It promotes laziness.

Haha. I made the demon a ninja for fun. It wasn't to make any particular point about any characters. His title is also quite obvious.

EDIT: @Trick: Fine. Do that from the start. Since I have returned I have seen an incredible amount of laziness in regards to actually reading a post before responding in the negative and making counter arguments based on assumptions.

Also, I have seen a large amount of the playerbase that seem to just outright say no towards a ridiculous amount of things. Stagnation is the cause of boredom. Don't be so afraid of change, FL. It's good for you.

Edited

Since players have returned there have been a number of threads/posts of them complaining about how THEY want things done. Now, this may not necessarily reflect you or your posts, but you are kinda getting the short end of it.

Its frustrating and exhausting to have players bitch, moan, and complain about things they don't like/agree with even when we(the player base) have provided a number of solutions. Granted, this was mainly UC and his own issues, but you're kinda receiving the frustration of that attitude.

As far as changes are concerned, I can't speak for the rest of the Player base, but I for one will shoot down an idea or voice against it if I don't like it, its not needed, or it will be a waste of our ONLY Coder's valuable time.( Granted, who am I to dictate his time, but yeah.. )

EDIT:

I am ALL for change. Hell, I want people to delete their characters because I'm sick of seeing certain one's in certain position doing basically nothing.

If you don't like it:

Please, be the voice against it and tell us why.

If it's not needed:

State how it hurts the game. Otherwise just ignore the thread. This is a terrible attitude. Just because you don't think it's needed. Others may.

Or it will be a waste:

If the current coder feels he needs assistance for anything he has capable volunteers. That is not even remotely an issue.

Of course, these are how I feel and operate. Lately I've been just "liking" posts I agree with if I have nothing to add. I think it's a pretty concise way of expressing approval without adding to the stupid amounts of useless posts.

EDIT: I'm feeling sassy this morning. I'm sorry if I've been rude or offended anyone.

Nah, no offense taken.

I'm going to post my opinion if I feel like it.

Ever crossed your mind that this PK advantage (however small) is intentional and by design?

Now that you have addressed the reading comprehension issue re:disguise, I like the idea :]
