As for PK advantages, what about guild ranks? I'm not trying to make a slippery slope here, but the rational that there's something to be gained from knowing before hand can also be held aloft for newbies and people who don't play enough to have memorized what's what. 3 years ago I told poor corpsestomp that an Invoker of Suffering was a Necromancer. Turns out it was a Dark Knight.
I'm sure all this can be put into bio, though, and there are decent RP reasons to do so. I'm ambivalent to the subject matter.
