Marc
I'm not really one to put pros and cons but I'd say this Faerie Pros: Autoflight and autosneak are good, so is the insane amount of mana you'll have. Cons: Low strength means carrying a good blade to dance will be tough, also you'll have pitiful hp and you wont be able to faerie fire those pesky thieves and rangers. Can only be good Avian Pros: Autoflight, good dex and strength means you'll be able to carry a good dancing blade and all the things you need like vials and gyvels, good int and wis means you'll have a good amount of mana. vulnerability is hard to exploit. You can also choose all alignments rather than just good. Cons: anyone want to point these out? Cant really think of any
Guest Birdman
The faerie benefits from huge amounts of mana, autoflight, and autosneak. I think a battlemage in general would do well to dance a very heavy weapon, and a fearie's strength makes it very hard to carry heavy things, ie., very heavy weapons. You don't have to actually be able to wield your dancing blade, though, so as long as you can carry it, you're good to go. Avian is a great race. You still get autoflight, and a vuln to go with it, but your stats are far more balanced. Avian is also much more versatile; I like that they can be evil, but some people like the option of playing a good or neutral character. I would go with the avian, personally. They are very flexible when it comes to both gameplay and RP, and a solid choice for any class they can join.

corpsestomp
I'm going to go ahead and pull a Behrens because I've really taken to humans lately... But between faerie and avian? Other than mentioned... Faerie: Spell upkeep won't be such a problem, fewer choices of weapons for parrying. Avian: You'll have to slow yourself more often, but with autoflight, it shouldn't be too bad.
Zrothum
Elf/Drow bmages ftw then a tie between avian/demon ( id probably put demon before avian actually....) then faerie then gnome then human

Ruindorf
I never had a problem holding a really nice dancing blade as a faerie, you just need it in your inventory, you do not need to wield it.
Iyorvin
Faeries regen mana like an ogre regens hp. When you get to 50 and you see how much your upkeep actually is, you'd be glad you went faerie. Autosneak and autoflight means some nasty tricks, and no vuln gives you a very solid bmg. You put all your trains into hp and you'll have more hp at 50 then an avian anyway. The only real restriction is being good, which if you want to be good, it isn't a restriction, and since you are comparing these two races I'll assume you are going good. A nice faerie bmg sigil would be very scary.
Iusedtobesomebody
i want a squid bmg. but, back to reality, i'd go drow/elf over them all. means of flight is easy to obtain, so the fae/bird auto ability is not worth it. autosneak is a better inherent skill. you will have enough mana at 50 to do whatever you need to. had a drow bmg in 1.0, he was tough. Malanost the Emperor of Xymerria. i remember fighting Dunlith (i think that his name, Chieftain of Marak, played by somebody) and not really taking any damage. just train all your spells, set the color on your client to highlight spells dropping and you'll do fine. bmgs are like wind-up toys. crank 'em up and let them run by themselves.
