I wanted to show-case this PK log as one example of how Psi's are currently OP. First, a little primer on how they work. Psionicists don't use "magic" like regular mages, they use their minds. As such, they have to memorize their spells. You have something like six different spell sets you can create but you can only memorize a single set at a given time. A spell set consists of the six circles of psi spells, 1st Circle are the weakest spells, 6th are the most powerful. Likewise, you can memorize several 1st and 2nd circle spells and only two of your 6th circle. I don't remember when exactly, but two big changes were introduced to Psionicists. First was that every single non-focus spell can be cast outside of memorization. That included mind blast, ego whip, 48-hour levitate, 24-hour semi-protective-shield, 12-hour sanc, a useful charmie, a potent healing spell along with the psi equivalent of slow and haste. What's even better? You can have slow on, cast haste, cancel it and it lasts two ticks on your groupmates. See how easy that is to abuse when you don't have to memorize it? The only skill is in creating enough separation to cast. The second major change to Psi survivability was enhance armor. What I have advocated on prayer is that enhanced armor should effectively replace the first change because it is what allows the Psi to gear effectively. Enhance armor works on the base armor stat, it's not an additive like -20 AC. That means you get the armor multiplier, which makes it incredible but combined with the first change, it makes them almost unkillable. This is just so everyone can see what we're talking about. This is not to piss anyone off or cause a witch hunt on the IMMs. I know they're looking at it. So for this log, Aely was getting the Watcher standard and since I don't have to memorize mind blast and ego whip or metabolic brake, well....read and see. I kept a lot of the chasing in. Every time you see "Your mind strains to recall the details of the spell" that's me using a spell I haven't memorized. If you don't see that, then it's a memorized one. When I did blind you I hurt you badly. I enjoyed our fights so much. Everyone sent me pms. Ohhh you need to be offensive roll a whip warrior. This is my problem. Here. Why do I need to roll a whip warrior to be competitive? Psi ability to break mental with an united unchecked ego whip, the ability to mind blast all my mind away! Do you know how important mana is for invokers battlemages? The classes that need mana the most. Just gone. Now I understand that PSI are q classes. So are vampires. I've never ever feared fighting a vampire like I do a PSI on my mages. NOT EVERYONE PLAYS MELLE. That's what I feel people don't understand. Hence my departure. Great post. I've missed playing the past few days. I think egowhip should be similar to phantom grasp. Lands why to easy AND DECIMATES THROUGH SANC. That last capture there I ran out of glimmering staves. Even ego whip on tap is OP. If Psi's were the way they used to be, I would not have been able to cast any of those spells outside of memorization. My spell set would look like below as an example, ( first three circles...). Aelythuen This is where I disagree. The reset back to that memorize set will not fix Psi OPness. It will fix Destruction OPness while nerfing the others severely. Desutrction has guaranteed things it can do without a way for anyone to save themselves from it as shown in the log. Alteration does NOT have any damaging guarantees and Telepathy has one. Both Alteration and Telepathy work upon debuffs and timing. I don't see how it nerfs Illusion at all. Illusion's power is mostly in their melee/defensive buffs with things like mind blast being gravy. if a single offensive spell is needed outside of memorization, it should be Mind Thrust since it's mostly damage and it's secondary effect is very minimal. The rest is more debuff than damage and suffers from significant lag. That one is rather nasty, but it is literally all you have and you can only do it once. So, no mind blasting means no finishing anyone. Dominations power is in two things: Getting someone to sleep and anti-casting. The only reason someone calls them the anti-psi psi is because of spell trap. If it actually lasted longer, I'd say hell yeah. It lasts maybe a tick or two if you get their saves down enough. So, no damage components are coming from it. If you are trying to damage someone, you have to mind thrust, mind blast, or unmind and that's it. The rest is more debuff than it is damage and like bards your debuffs won't kill anyone, they just make them easier to debuff or for your to survive a bit longer. -Cirilha Link to comment

But I see your path as easily having 4 egos, 4 mind thrusts, at least 3 mind blasts, and your big damage spell....and that other 6th circle spell you have that would you more thrusts/blasts. Now, if you condense all the spells I mentioned into one, then we are talking. Having to choose between another mind blast or the affects you get when you put someone to sleep WILL make different plays definitely and I'm fine with that. But, Destruction plays very different than Alteration. Domination plays very different from them both. I'm trying here not to give away too much and get into trouble so I'm leaving out what spells actually do. Find me IC and I'm game for discussing it IC because it is a problem. Cephirus Posted April 9, 2020 Report Share Posted April 9, 2020 Honestly I don't see a problem with PSI's outside of the amount of mana drained from mind blast. I would have thought it closer to maybe 20-40 mana per hit instead of around 90-110. I've never seen the interaction of PSI's against Invoker, does mana shield prevent the damage/loss of mana? I think tactically Oiydi made a couple of critical mistakes that caused the loss there. As soon as the kinesis was on him I would have suggested moving far enough away for it to dissipate. He only has so many slots for those before he will need to reset, so if he keeps landing them, keep moving far enough away and catching a tick or two to regen the lost HP. If he goes to reset, that is your time to strike as that is when a PSI is most vulnerable. If he wasn't aware of the very high damage spell, he should be now and watch how low he sits. Recalling home was a mistake as the lag gives the PSI enough time to Tribunal Spell to him and drop the hammer. Link to comment

Anonymous Posted April 10, 2020 Author Report Share Posted April 10, 2020 Few things are more offensive than a Fire Giant Zerk with Fire weapons and forms and in this case -70 mental saves and I never actually outmelee'd one (unless they made mistakes like forgetting sanctuary). Psi's might have issues with classes that have lighting/thunder spells due to there high AC. Maybe magic resist races would have a better go too. But these are weaknesses many classes have to contend with. With Mino Charge being one of the few things able to take one down reveals another glaring issue imho. I think Minotaur charge still might need a little more balancing too. Maybe a 0 or 1 tick timer on it. Give them one extra point of str or dex to compensate. Lecitus Link to comment

With Gunkus I absolutely slaughtered any class without counter, that was too aggressive or careless with their flee walking. If a class had counter, I felt like a stone giant when fighting them. If I was fighting a person who could keep composure and not walk back into me, the charge bonus is moot. Link to comment

Usually a MASSACRES through sanc, the lag is just a bonus. There are many ways to stop a mino from charging as well. Dont fight near your hometown. Blind Calm Slow Lag And as far as I know, there is an increased lag to the mino on the charge. Link to comment
