MUD School Feedback

Looks fucking outstanding, absolutely great job.

Some sort of socketable item for the pin so people can learn about.

Something about delete and delpass, don't think I saw those anywhere.

Something about the brief command, don't think I saw that.

Other than that, as far as basics I think it does a damn fine job covering stuff.

It is well put together and informative for anyone new to muds or new to this game.   I like how it lets people explore rather than sending down a certain quest chain.

As far as gripes, really I don't have any except for making the places where they have to SAY something respond to the term anywhere in their lines.

For instance, the part about scanning.  If they were to says 'What about Scanning?', then they should be rewarded.

I suggest move the signs about Cabals and especially PK to a 'one-way hallway.  PK sign should not be one to accidentally be missed by going left or right since PK is a big pillar of PK gameplay.

Remove telelock from the headmaster's room.  You get prompted to recall and help recall, but you can't recall out.

Absolutely love the random Warmaster reference without forcing people to read up about it.  It's a nice little world building, sticks out on its own thanks to color, and isn't as in your face like the rest of the MUD school.

Is it really what you think of that, as a garbage? Sorry, but I do disagree with you and I do feel that your mood, especially affects people that tries really hard to improve everything by hard working. That was rude and for me it gives no improvement at all, because :

1. You give no improvement ideas, just says it is garbage. If you have to say how to improve it, say it, don't only criticise the work of the others.

2.  If you plan to say a bad thing about someone's work you should say also, WHY it is that, what is bad, what can be improve.

As, you can see both points are about improvement, so we can not feel this as a "hot garbage".....

The area is SUPER DUPER.

I think it need to teach some more few things:
- Flee (this one is very important), a lot more than scanning.
- Sleep/Regen
- Open chest and loot (perhaps new quest to Kamir Caves chest, wich is the next ranking area). Perhaps make a bandit in the newbie arena, give you the info about TREASURE if you spare him, or GrandMaster give it when giving pin, saying it somewhere you can wear your pin. Perhaps improve the bracer in there.

I think it should also have a strong MOB like a BOSS.
You could use it to teach about FLEE, and VULN.

Just make the mob imune to physical damage by giving it very high physical AC and put a vuln in.
With a comentator to teach to flee.
Then put a fire exotic weapon on shop.

Make the BOSS an agressive  Feral NPC, make it claw for scratch (1 dam), and -500 bash/pierce/slash AC but 100 magic AC.
Make this in a cage sort of room with a caretaker or Jailkeeper that advises you to flee and talks about how ferals fear fire and to go fetch something with fire.
Then make the shop sell a EXOTIC candlestick or a burning stick or a torch (might wish to avoid taking it for a light) at L3, to prevent buying the first time you visit the shop. Perhaps make the weapon have a special color RED and decay in like 1 RL hour.
Make the adviser tell you to wield the fire weapon when you enter with it, and after the kill comment on your victory, skin the feral and turn him into a trophy you can wear. Like a +2 hitroll cloak.

Also the description examples are very helpful.

The descriptions are great. But perhaps there should be more in there.
Like a box/shelf with books, with descriptions of Regular PC's.
Like choose some PC description that isn't Dragon worthy but acceptable and place in books.

My fear is that foreign people will look at super descriptions and be demotivated cause of the standard they give the illusion of.
Just add something basic.

Perhaps a statue of Jon Doe from the land of the Rising Sun (something to imply that he is non english), with an less good description.

Thanks for the input! We should be able to add a second trigger for those. May take some time, there's a lot.

For those that might be curious - speech and act are two different trigger types. Speech is for say/tell/group and act is *motes. They don't have overlap, so we will have to add both where applicable.

Unfortunately we are limited on this, as vnum space is sparse. This is also a big part of why we didn't push for brief in the new med school. A lot of things in the world would be lost for newcomers if they started off using brief.

I'm not sure on the difference there as I'm not that good of a coder.  But, if some type 'say what about scanning' is there not a way to have that recognized?

I've found the same problem with quest chains in game.  There are some things that kinda break RP and I understand it somewhat because it may be more difficult to code, like the arena.  But, qrace quest chains are a bit more odd only being able to give one word answers for some or starting off the line with them makes RPing the quest chain more difficult.

No, it's possible. I'm just trying to explain how triggers work.

Each keyword needs it's own trigger, and each trigger condition needs to represented. So let's say we have a prog that fires off with the word tobasco, and you want it to fire off when they say/mote tobasco, but also if they just type tobasco, you would need both a speech trigger to cover say/mote and an act trigger to cover just typing it.

So if you have a prog you might have say, 3 keywords for, you'd have to add those same 3 in act triggers as well, but also not if it would be the same as a command. So because 'act help 100' would actually take precedence over the help command, using it would make using the help command impossible in that room or with that mob around.

So yeah. Triggers take time to plan out and check.

Oh, and you can have multiple word answers, but not well. The answer would have to match exactly.

'speech I have to go to the bathroom'

Would only fire off if you said, EXACTLY... "I have to go to the bathroom" and NOT "I have to use the bathroom". That's why we use single words. Flexibility is important.

So I went through this like I normally would.  I really enjoyed it.  Though six levels is not really quick enough to get all the equipment inside the place.  I was done it and only got 2 cloaks.  This was me going through it as realistic as possible.  I thought it looked fantastic and great job all around.
