English lad
Probably going to come off a whine, but I have to voice it anyway. I'm fast starting to come to the conclusion that this really isn't the right mud for me, at least not anymore. Why? Pointless, RPless killing. The last 6 deaths I've taken, over a few different characters, have been to people I have never talked to, never met, and have no particular RP Race/Class history with. I.E they've just walked in, attacked and killed. I understand that this game is a PK game, I wouldn't play here if it wasn't, but it is advertised, and in the past has always maintained a high standard, of RP. Not just RP as in a few particular characters, or one off RP sessions, but RP that is always present, I.E Inforced. Maybe its just me, but I've been seeing more and more people for whom RP is something they have to do to play, or rather I should say that not going OOC is something they have to do. These people, not going to name any names as its not really anyone in particular, seem to play purely for the PK side of the game. Which I get, really I do. The pk Coding etc is brilliant, and any PK mudder is obviosuly going to love it, that said what sets this mud apart from the hundreds of Godwars muds out there is that it is more than just a score sheet and a collection of skills. Are there situations where Silent PK is justified? Absolutley! I have never done it because I've never played one of those style of characters. Thats not what I'm talking about. What i'm talking about, I guess, is the people who do the absolute minimum in terms of not going OOC ( and regurlarly cross that to be honest) so that they can enjoy the PK that this game supplys so well. Is this what the Imms/Imps see as the direction they want for the Mud? Because it seems to be the way its going. If this is the case then it may be bon voyage for me. There are a hundred Hack and slash muds out there, more. I found this mud initially running a search on Topmudsites, one of my search terms was Roleplay Mandatory, because I wanted a non hack and slash Kill Kill Kill mud, am I in the wrong place? Designated_Driver
I imagine that you're finding a lot of resistance, either in the 30s or the mid-40s. From qrace applicants, to malform feeding DKs, we've all experienced it. Best you can do is deal with it, move on, and come back to kick their ***. Implementor Anume Posted July 25, 2006 Implementor Report Share Posted July 25, 2006 Where you in the 30 range or at 50? If not at 50, get there, it usually is better there as there is less "trash". No matter where it happens to you if they do not have any reason (the basic "you good - I evil" is enough for some people) and won't tell you why they killed you either, send us a note. They don't have to tell you but they sure have to tell us. Examples where it is not ok: Neutral killing without reason, low rank killing silently A LOT (no matter what align), low rank killing in 50 armor, multikilling below rank 40, etc.
npc_death
I agree about the lack of RP, and it does make it seem not worth logging on. Despite that, I don't think you should leave. I've found that the pbase as a whole is very good at PK (something I am not), and characters don't give you the time of day RP-wise unless they respect/fear you PK-wise. That's what I've found at least. I don't like that aspect of the game, but I still enjoy the game. My solution is to try actually becoming a PK threat so that I can get the old RP interaction I used to see years ago. Also, I wish there were more Imms to help further RP. The Imms now are great, but because there seems to be so few, they are always busy, which is why more would be good. That was kind of a nonsensical rant. In a nutshell, stick it out a little longer. We need all the good players we can get.
Pali
I've left and returned more times than I can remember. If you are getting frustrated every time you play, stop playing for a while. This is a game, and if you're not having fun, don't play. Nobody will fault you for that. Go have a week of partying with friends, go fishing, play pool, play World of Warcraft, do whatever else it is that you do to blow off steam and have a good time. Come back in a few weeks, roll up a new char of a rather survivable class, start with a cleaner slate.
Iconz
It depends on the situation.... i think that it is up to you to try and dig somethin out of the other person. For example... the other day i was ranking and someone randomly attacked me... i fled to safety and initiated conversation. That in itself is RP... it takes work but usually people are willing to converse for a bit. Usually in that conversation youll get to find what is motivating the other person. If you think about it... most psychopathic killers dont say much to their targets before they wreck em... Think Jason Vorhies. What i would like to see more often though is flair in PK... but most people dont want to sacrifice the element of surprise... oh well... i know that im goign to continue to hold myself to as high standards as possible. __________________ Iconz - Being all that he can be. corpsestomp
I might know who one of your characters is, I saw a person get attacked by another, no talking beforehand, and when I asked what fight they had with the other, I got a shrug. This is the same guy who went after a character of mine. Not only that, they are neutral.

Guess I won't jump on you too bad, the old vets of FL used to post player names on the forum so that they could all multi kill who they deemed 'trash'. Like I siad though, perspective. corpsestomp
I did prayer forum, not the first time though, I thought he was a goodie trying to kill my evil. But when he shrugged after that second kill, it made me mad that he would kill for no reason. This especially since neutral are supposed to have a good reason for each kill. Anyway, I kept everything about the person unknown except that he is neutral, so you have no reason to jump on me. I wouldn't have said anything here unless I had prayer forum or noted it. archgold
you know i've had chars before that do that to me at pinn as well as 30ish and it all comes out to usually the simple reason: they look at you see you have some really really nice stuff and boom kill you for it. Common experiences are bash/bodyslam lag lock, blackjack/steal/pry, or someone just coming in and destroy you. Oh did I mention any thief will usually have a decent reason for killing you since they are what you call thieves?
corpsestomp
Being a thief doesn't mean you'd kill them, being a thief means you might blackjack, steal or pry something off. This guy tried a blackjack, failed, dirted and killed the guy.
archgold
well if u do think about it as many have said before thieves at 30th can kill just about anyone if played properly. Therefore since I played exactly one thief in FL, i think i mentioned somewhere on shoutouts I was Tokar or something like that now that he's deleted. I'm pretty sure alot of you guys hated Tokar and sure enough if I couldn't pry/blackjack/steal from the guy and that guy was just sitting there still or really really hurt or something especially worn armor then he was gone and i'd take the armor I wanted. Kyzarius
Forsakenlands is a brutal pk environment, if you are having issues in the low levels try rolling as an adventurer...this gives you a chance to get to know the lay of the land without dealing with murderers and vicious killers. some pointers? Read the essays, they have some good tips on survival...in general and some for specific classes. Always where, evere like 5 seconds, where, where, where.. and good luck, hope you stick around. ajwetton
I don't usually have the "trash/silent PK" problems at 30 I get it when i'm trying to get my last 5 ranks and the pinns all feel its ok to silent pk the under ranked people. and I typically get one after another coming to the hunting spot and silent pking. Kyzarius
yeah, i hate that..and personally none of my toons every attack a person that is ranking...unless they have mouthed off at me before.
ajwetton
i don't mind it if its got RP behind it, but that i'm good your bad thing so your gonna get killed while i have a rank advantage thing is kinda... hmmm shall we say crappy? cheap? (insert favorite adj here).
Kyzarius
oh..rank advantage doesnt matter to me...especially with evil toons...its jumping them while they are hunting that just seems...distasteful. I catch an opposing align running about (ie not hunting) i dont care their lvl, if they are in range its on.
goldbond
yes i remember your 2 of your characters and their "it's on" policy. maybe you should chill out. how's that?
Iyorvin
Well, a lot of people play here for the pk challenge. Hell I do. If I wanted to strictly RP, I'd go to some forum. Here I can pk you, make you feel like ****, then know you can't do anything about it but suck it up and stay in character. It's exhilarating. (insert favorite adj here).[/quote'] That's FL. It's just part of the game and the way it works. It will never be always fair, and believe me, if it was, it wouldn't be as fun IMO. Any of you ever play first person shooters? When you've been fighting some guy for a while, you kill him, you run with ten HP and then some guy respawns fresh from the creche, and nails you with one shot? Same sort of principle. If the game was meant to be fair, we'd all be created at pinnacle with fully trained skills. Dey
